Where is all the Christmas fabric??

This weekend I went to 3 LQS's in search of sale priced Christmas fabric - I need to make a new tree skirt for next year. What a disappointment - all that was left was either snowmen or children themed fabric. I came home and searched online several sites, and still was not satisfied with the offerings. Do I have to wait until next Fall to purchase the fabric at full price? :(

fmhall2 12-30-2011 09:08 AM

Probably Christmas in July they will start selling, and hopefully not full price.

MaryMo 12-30-2011 09:09 AM

Keep looking ... there's some out there just for you!

Xstitshmom 12-30-2011 09:26 AM

Have you tried fabric.com? It appears they have some and there is also some coupons that you can redeem.

Quiltbugger 12-30-2011 12:12 PM

I purchased some this morning on connectingthreads.com They are having clearances and the yardage price was really fantastic. According to many on this board, including me, their prices and quality are very good.

The LQS I go to has Christmas fabrics available all year long. Tomorrow is the annual sale date. I was not as thrilled over this past year's choices but I can generally find something I want buy.

Quiltaddict 12-30-2011 01:38 PM

I think that stores in general (including quilt stores) are not buying as much seasonal stuff this year because they don't want to get stuck with it after Christmas and have to sell it so cheap.

Xstitshmom 12-30-2011 01:41 PM

in the search box on fabric.com type in coupons and they should come up. It's like 15% off for a certain amount that you buy and it goes up from there.

Holice 12-30-2011 02:04 PM

it was all sold before Thanksgiving at 50-60% off.....lol

sharon b 12-30-2011 02:10 PM

My LQS put it all on sale before Christmas this year - the first time they have ever done , the clerk told me- so even before Christmas not much left

SouthPStitches 12-30-2011 02:13 PM

The LQS's close to my area seem to be carrying less and less holiday fabric every year. Actually, rather scarce to find.

babyboomerquilter 12-30-2011 02:13 PM

Much to my surprise Fabric.com had a large choice after Christmas, I am not sure what is left now though.

dreamboat 12-30-2011 02:34 PM

what colors and type are you looking for? I might have some in my stash.

BigDog 12-30-2011 03:09 PM

I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday and they had a good selection at 50% off.

Mauck 12-30-2011 06:13 PM

Where all did you look? Here are a couple of places that I found that had a pretty good variety of sale Christmas Fabrics.

i find it very strange that retail stores and magasines have not realized we need themed fabric all through the year[good stuff at areasonable price] its not as if you can run up all the xmas suff in a month----------also magasines who fill all their pages with---easter/spring/ fall/xmas stuff the month these things are happening--a] not everyone celebrates these events b] we need time to produce the items----can we not have a mix of stuff through the year

Tartan 12-30-2011 07:33 PM

I think the LQS are carrying less seasonal fabrics now that so many people but on line. I used to be able to depend on Walmart for great seasonal fabric but we lost our fabric department.:( My LQS carries Christmas but not Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween like Walmart used to.

Jackie Spencer 12-31-2011 05:46 AM

You might try crafttownfabrics.net Theres is 40% off

I looked just before Christmas for a different fabric for the table runner I was making and it was slim pickins then. Good luck.

Rosewood9 12-31-2011 07:51 AM

Keepsake quilting had some on sale. keepsakequilting.com

SUZAG 12-31-2011 08:27 AM

I found very little "Christmas leftovers" in any category. I think the retailers were being very careful in their ordering this year!

JMCDA 12-31-2011 08:51 AM

The fabric store that I frequent here in Ontario had tons of Christmas fabric left - 4 or 5 round display carousels with the bolts wedged in...now mind you most of it I wouldn't give a second look to, not my cup of tea compared to the more contemporary/retro patterns that I prefer but I picked up a few small prints that will get used - and one piece I am going to go back and get yardage asap now that I have seen the 2012 Basic Grey christmas fabric - gorgeous!

Check equilter.com -- they seem to have a bunch left -- but the prices are not all reduced.

Have you tried the shops on e-bay? I saw some gorgeous Christmas fabrics on there the other day! Just check out the seller & make sure they have lots of good feedback so you aren't disappointed.

patchsamkim 12-31-2011 10:34 AM

You will probably have to wait until July unless you can find some somewhere on clearance. Most shops sell out before Christmas. Maybe you can find shop that carries Christmas fabric year round, but not too many do.

pls1946 12-31-2011 11:16 AM

I agree, everything left is kids prints!

kittenquilts 01-01-2012 05:30 AM

You might check Thousand of Bolts and Over the Rainbow on line. Both have quality fabrics at great prices. I have never been disappointed by a purchase from them!

Pieces2 01-01-2012 06:12 AM

I just yesterday brought 2 x-mas fabrics from JoAnn's and they must of had 30 bolts to choose from and also at 60% discount. Also try Handcocks.

petlover 01-01-2012 09:46 AM

On Google, put in the search area "fabric.com" and hit search. It will bring up a screen that has a heading fabric.com coupons.

AnnaF 01-01-2012 10:13 AM

Quilt shops usually wait til July to unload their older Christmas stock.

sewnbug 01-01-2012 10:24 AM

DonnaQuilts 01-01-2012 05:47 PM

I looked everywhere for it before Christmas. At WalMart the other day, they just received theirs. As usual, a day late and a dollar short and now it has to go on sale at a reduced price. It was good quality for WalMart.
