I usually look at all the sample quilts that are made up and then go willy nilly all over the store.

I love batiks. Their colors are so subtle.

I always go to the "sale" sections. I find a lot of great bargins

I don't get to buy, but I have learned from the board to look at cotton. so once a month I go to Joann's and look around to get out of the house. God bless. Penny

I start with the new stuff and then the batiks then the rest of the store just to make sure I didn't miss anything of previous visits!

I have only been quilting for about 6 years. I started out by being overwhelmed by beautiful fabrics and mostly bought FQ's. Then I turned myself loose and realized the cost of those larger cuts... after I had already paid and left the store. Now, I have narrowed it down to only 3 quilt stores that have the best prices and plenty of great fabrics. I seldom pay full price. My fav stores are Shipshewana $5.95 per yard; tiny town of Bettsville 3 yard cuts 10 bucks, and the little shop in town that has great sales on multiple FQ's of $1.00 each. They all have bargain sections, too. I do not buy magazines or books anymore. Occasionally, I will buy a NEW fabric just out. If I don't exercise some control.... I'm out of control!!! And I'm just as happy with more money in my pocket.

I've discovered I love the sale rooms best at the shops I go to...40% off those delicious fabrics is hard to ignore! Only after I have looked through all of those options do I wander (and wander, and wander...) through the rest of the store. Though I am very new to this obsession/hobby, I have already realizing I am a "fabric first, pattern second" kind of quilter!

there are so many free patterns online that really, you could skip buying books and patterns. But you can't touch fabric through the screen- so, a fabric shopping I will go....

Has anyone else noticed the rash if really bad TV commercials lately? Like Nationwide Insurance? Just one example.
