...you go into a LQS or any fabric store? Notions, fabrics? If fabrics, which ones? No matter how much fabric in the shop I always seem to gravitate first to the batiks?
Inquiring minds want to know.

amma 05-04-2010 09:39 AM

LMBO it is batiks for me too!!! Then I go aisle by aisle of the fabrics, then patterns and notions :D:D:D

bearisgray 05-04-2010 09:40 AM

the novelty prints

BKinCO 05-04-2010 09:40 AM

Any new fabric line......I have to check that out first!

littlehud 05-04-2010 09:41 AM

Batiks are my first stop and then the sale fabric.

momto4 05-04-2010 09:41 AM

New fabric lines are usually what I check out first, then any kits since my LQS usually has great deals.

You are still a lot more methodical than I am :-). Once I have thoroughly inspected the batiks, I notice the notions... Ooooh look at that shop sample...is that a new line of... Oooo that's a great price on fat qua....awesome I did't know she/he had a new book out.. Ooo...oooo...
Well, you get the idea. ;-)

amma 05-04-2010 09:51 AM

Well, I won't say that I never get distracted.... anything pretty, shiny, or bright that catches my eye will have me heading in that direction!!!! I did forget that I do usually hit the sale aisle second, if I know where it is
I didn't mention that I usually have to repeat my wanderings atleast twice, as I always miss something the first go round LOL

dglvr 05-04-2010 09:52 AM

Yeah the batiks usually call my name but if there is doggy fabric in route I have to stop.

Marjpf 05-04-2010 09:52 AM

I tend to start on the left side and work my way around the whole store. Even if I know what I'm looking for and know the layout of the store really well, I still seem to always do it this way.

Maride 05-04-2010 09:54 AM

Funny, but I head to the cutting table to talk to my friend Lora, the owner, once there I see what other people have been getting because she has it out there behind the counter. I have found there new fat quarters. She only cuts fat quarters after someone opens the bolt, so I may get the first FQs. I then go to the gadgets and only go to the fabric if I need some. No point looking if I am broke. I have been there for a whole hour to come out with a pack of needles. That usually means I am broke, but can always use new needles.

Kherrin 05-04-2010 10:01 AM

I usually do the sale fabric first and have more than once shopped and checked out only to realize I didn't get what I went in there for.

sahm4605 05-04-2010 10:02 AM

I start by the door and try and wined my way around the store. Getting a stroller through the isles many times is a challenge. and add in keeping my daughter from pulling out the bolts and things from racks and the wall is always fun too. I love fabric. I think that I would just collect yards and yards of it even if I didn't quilt. It is just so pretty and soft. well most of the time. I would be broke if I went to the LQS as much as I want to. When I do buy it seems like I can't get out for under $50. Why must fabric be so expensive?!?!?!?!

Beachbound 05-04-2010 10:09 AM

Batiks, then I check the batiks out again just in case I overlooked something. I once went to a brand new (to me) quilt store & spend the whole time in the batik section....I forgot to look at the rest!!!! If I have time I will then check out the rest of the store starting at the right side of the door & working my way around. If I have to hurry it's the sale rack & a quick once over the rest after I am sure I studied the batiks enough.

seamstome 05-04-2010 10:12 AM

Batiks, then notions.

sharon b 05-04-2010 10:14 AM

I start by the door also and work my way thru the store and usually many times  Just ask anyone that has shopped with me  I can spend hours walking around and around and around  LOL

DebraK 05-04-2010 10:26 AM

I head for whatever is on my list so I get business out of the way, then I look at everything.

Jim's Gem 05-04-2010 10:39 AM

It depends on the shop. My local shop I head for the sale table. The other local shop, I look through all the florals and stuff first. Another shop I look at the oriental fabrics and batiks first.

PALS65 05-04-2010 10:43 AM

Civil War first, then just about anywhere.

dsb38327 05-04-2010 10:43 AM

I like to find their sales tables. They are always so much fun. Then on to the bright colors.

Pam 05-04-2010 10:45 AM

Batiks, clearance, notions, check out. I have TOO many ideas of my own to make without clocgging up my head with patterns.

If I made one quilt from each book I already own, it would take me the rest of my life.

jljquilter 05-04-2010 11:35 AM

Flannels! I have to pet them first.

kwiltkrazy 05-04-2010 11:41 AM

Yes, I to am drawn, like a magnet, to the batiks, then the children's, or fun prints.

MadQuilter 05-04-2010 11:47 AM

Whatever catches my eye when I walk in. Then I mosey and wander and dilly-dally.

Joan 05-04-2010 11:50 AM

I find fabric stores overwhelming and initially it is hard to focus on any one thing. I usually cruise through the store (my "oohing and aahing" is usually audible and can be heard by everyone). If I don't have a specific need in mind for a specific quilt it is quite hard because I just want it all.

CarrieAnne 05-04-2010 12:01 PM

I usually see if they have any 30's prints first, then I love to check to see if they have any neat animal prints. I love to look at the books and magazines, too!

sewmuchmore 05-04-2010 12:11 PM

I go straight to the clearance section. :P I find a lot of cotton fabric and most of the time it is more than 50% or more off. 8-) Then I look at the new line. Books and gadgets. And make a second round through the fabric once more. I have not gone to the fabric store for three weeks now. :? Maybe I can go at the end of May. I have to be careful in a couple months I have to go the oncology for my 6 months check up and it is costly.

shaverg 05-04-2010 01:39 PM

Brights and large floral, not batiks for me. Once I found out I could not hand quilt them I block them out. LOL.

stitchinwitch 05-04-2010 02:45 PM

I walk in and size up the store. In Branson, there is a store called Quilts Quilts Quilts and I start in the left aisle where books and calendars are, and take one aisle at a time - just like the grocery store!

Kathy N 05-04-2010 02:46 PM

Always the batiks for me. The stores usually put them towards the front because they are beautiful and more expensive. They try to get you coming through the door :)

Inquiring minds want to know.

I look for purple.

Yeah what she said!!! Then its off to the sale tables then I look at all the rest of the cottons.

Billy

MegsAnn 05-04-2010 05:29 PM

I check out the clearance section first, then the sales, fat quarters, nursery prints, and everything else. Just seems to always be in that order.

alaskasunshine 05-04-2010 05:45 PM

I head straight for the clearance fabrics. I have only paid full price on a hand full of the fabrics in my stash.

Boy! Although I head for the batiks, I quickly get overwhelmed and use the word Awesome....at least DH as so

quiltluvr 05-04-2010 05:56 PM

Some shops I head to remnants, scraps, etc. Other shops I start at the front and work my way around. I generally skip books and patterns, but do like to browse at notions.

SC 05-04-2010 06:00 PM

Definitely, straight to the batiks!

mom-6 05-04-2010 07:08 PM

Clearance first, then whatever color(s) I'm currently looking for, interspersed with whatever catches my eye at the moment.
