...you go into a LQS or any fabric store? Notions, fabrics? If fabrics, which ones? No matter how much fabric in the shop I always seem to gravitate first to the batiks?
Inquiring minds want to know. |
LMBO it is batiks for me too!!! Then I go aisle by aisle of the fabrics, then patterns and notions :D:D:D
the novelty prints
Any new fabric line......I have to check that out first!
Batiks are my first stop and then the sale fabric.
New fabric lines are usually what I check out first, then any kits since my LQS usually has great deals.

Well, you get the idea. ;-) |
Well, I won't say that I never get distracted.... anything pretty, shiny, or bright that catches my eye will have me heading in that direction!!!! I did forget that I do usually hit the sale aisle second, if I know where it is
I didn't mention that I usually have to repeat my wanderings atleast twice, as I always miss something the first go round LOL |
Yeah the batiks usually call my name but if there is doggy fabric in route I have to stop.
I tend to start on the left side and work my way around the whole store. Even if I know what I'm looking for and know the layout of the store really well, I still seem to always do it this way.
Funny, but I head to the cutting table to talk to my friend Lora, the owner, once there I see what other people have been getting because she has it out there behind the counter. I have found there new fat quarters. She only cuts fat quarters after someone opens the bolt, so I may get the first FQs. I then go to the gadgets and only go to the fabric if I need some. No point looking if I am broke. I have been there for a whole hour to come out with a pack of needles. That usually means I am broke, but can always use new needles.
I usually do the sale fabric first and have more than once shopped and checked out only to realize I didn't get what I went in there for.
I start by the door and try and wined my way around the store. Getting a stroller through the isles many times is a challenge. and add in keeping my daughter from pulling out the bolts and things from racks and the wall is always fun too. I love fabric. I think that I would just collect yards and yards of it even if I didn't quilt. It is just so pretty and soft. well most of the time. I would be broke if I went to the LQS as much as I want to. When I do buy it seems like I can't get out for under $50. Why must fabric be so expensive?!?!?!?!
Batiks, then I check the batiks out again just in case I overlooked something. I once went to a brand new (to me) quilt store & spend the whole time in the batik section....I forgot to look at the rest!!!! If I have time I will then check out the rest of the store starting at the right side of the door & working my way around. If I have to hurry it's the sale rack & a quick once over the rest after I am sure I studied the batiks enough.
Batiks, then notions.
I start by the door also and work my way thru the store and usually many times  Just ask anyone that has shopped with me  I can spend hours walking around and around and around  LOL
I head for whatever is on my list so I get business out of the way, then I look at everything.
It depends on the shop. My local shop I head for the sale table. The other local shop, I look through all the florals and stuff first. Another shop I look at the oriental fabrics and batiks first.
Civil War first, then just about anywhere.
I like to find their sales tables. They are always so much fun. Then on to the bright colors.
Batiks, clearance, notions, check out. I have TOO many ideas of my own to make without clocgging up my head with patterns.
If I made one quilt from each book I already own, it would take me the rest of my life. |
Flannels! I have to pet them first.
Yes, I to am drawn, like a magnet, to the batiks, then the children's, or fun prints.
Whatever catches my eye when I walk in. Then I mosey and wander and dilly-dally.
I find fabric stores overwhelming and initially it is hard to focus on any one thing. I usually cruise through the store (my "oohing and aahing" is usually audible and can be heard by everyone). If I don't have a specific need in mind for a specific quilt it is quite hard because I just want it all.
I usually see if they have any 30's prints first, then I love to check to see if they have any neat animal prints. I love to look at the books and magazines, too!
I go straight to the clearance section. :P I find a lot of cotton fabric and most of the time it is more than 50% or more off. 8-) Then I look at the new line. Books and gadgets. And make a second round through the fabric once more. I have not gone to the fabric store for three weeks now. :? Maybe I can go at the end of May. I have to be careful in a couple months I have to go the oncology for my 6 months check up and it is costly.
Brights and large floral, not batiks for me. Once I found out I could not hand quilt them I block them out. LOL.
I walk in and size up the store. In Branson, there is a store called Quilts Quilts Quilts and I start in the left aisle where books and calendars are, and take one aisle at a time - just like the grocery store!
Always the batiks for me. The stores usually put them towards the front because they are beautiful and more expensive. They try to get you coming through the door :)

I check out the clearance section first, then the sales, fat quarters, nursery prints, and everything else. Just seems to always be in that order.
I head straight for the clearance fabrics. I have only paid full price on a hand full of the fabrics in my stash.

Some shops I head to remnants, scraps, etc. Other shops I start at the front and work my way around. I generally skip books and patterns, but do like to browse at notions.
Definitely, straight to the batiks!
Clearance first, then whatever color(s) I'm currently looking for, interspersed with whatever catches my eye at the moment.
