I converted the smallest bedroom after both my DDs had completely 'left the nest' and DH also retired. I coped with him being around all the time pretty well, but found I really needed some space to call my own. It is only about 10' x 10' but I love it and it serves my needs.

I have a great sewing room upstairs all to myself. Fractured ankle and surgery have kept me from climbing stairs for almost year. So dh has hauled most into formal living downstairs and I love it here. Moving back upstairs after I do a little remodeling up there; more lighting and built ins.

I too, have a great sewing room with cabinets, and closets! A big island! I only sew in my dining room when my friend comes to sew, since she doesn't do stairs well!

I used to quilt at the coffee table or kitchen table. Now, I quilt in my new 20x24 "quilt shack" that the hubby and my 2 oldest boys built for me. I finally have a space just for me.:):):)

We have an extra bedroom but I like to keep it for guests, so I've ended up in the unfinished basement. There is plenty of space for two sewing desks, an ironing board and a cutting table. An old chest of drawers holds my stash and other supplies. It's a little chilly in the winter but cool in the summer and it gives me the opportunity to get away from everything and just sew. Sweet!

I have a sewing room in the basement .. it has been fabulous this summer so wonderfully cool down there... .and my big fluffy buddy loves the coolness . My guest room stays in tact , no scrambling to find places for stuff when company comes.
I am really glad I made the decision to put it down there , I had lots of lights and tons of outlets. I can set up extra tables when I have a few big projects going on , and no one knows what all is down there. In fact this summer when it just got so hot and I was not looking forward to a really high elelctric bill I slept a few nights there.. it was cooler than I would have ever run my A/C.

Being empty nesters, I have been fortunate to have a guest room that I use to do my sewing or crafting where I can leave things out. Then son moved back home and all heck broke loose. So my sewing machine came to the dining room table, all my current fabrics moved here, too. Every nook and cranny take up by my sewing things. Every afternoon, the sewing machine is put away in it's case, sewing accessories, ironing board, etc. all put away until tomorrow morning. Have been doing this since December. The good news.... son is in the process of moving out again and the guest room will be MINE until a "guest" decides to visit (when all the things will be moved to the storage shed for temporary housing).

In my family room, and keep most of my quilting supplies and fabric in the extra bedroom. :)

In my office at work and in our dining facility when I feel like dragging everything there. At home I have a new sewing room compliments of the son that moved away.
