Where is a good place to get good thread?
 

I don't drive. So I order on-line for most of my needs/wants. I usually order my thread from ConnectingThreads. Where do you get your thread from? For piecing and quilting?

I usually order from Connecting Threads and am very pleased.

I use Connecting Threads thread a LOT. Just did some sewing last night with one of their new varigated threads! I use CT for piecing if it's an "easy" quilt (like just squares) and I love it for FMQ - the thicker thread shows up nicely and since it's so cheap I've bought at least one spool in every color they offer, so I'm totally set for quilting thread!

Aurifil is my #1 favorite for piecing though; it's very thin and it is low lint. But it's also much more expensive than CT thread.

I buy it wherever I see it on sale. Beverly's is a local store for me; they price it at 9.99 a spool and I get 10% off with my guild card so that's a great price, but they have a very limited color selection available. Another local store sells it and has a huge color selection, but they want $12/spool and seems they never put it on sale so I rarely buy it there.

Fabric.com sells Aurifil for around ten bucks, but it bugs me that they don't put the thread number code on the site, so I'm never sure if I'm buying exactly the right thread - Aurifil has a lot of different colors that look very similar on a computer monitor. So when buying from Fabric.com, I stick to neutrals (which is my favorite for piecing anyway).

I've also bought CT polyester cones and used that for piecing too. Thin, zero lint, and sooo cheap.

I have always used Mettler Silk Finished thread because that is what the Bernina told me to use back in the "old" days of quilting. I watch for thread to be on sale at JAF online because they carry the basic colors I use for piecing charity tops.

Their prices are comparable to what I've found elsewhere, they have everything and the colours are listed online.

I buy the large 500m spools of Mettler Silk at Create for Less. I buy several (6+) at the same time for $6.50 ea.

When I don't get my thread from connecting threads I often get it from Superior Threads. I also get thread from fabric.com, which is where I generally buy aurifil thread-they have the best price I've found for it.

I really like Gutermann Natural Cotton thread, and buy it at www.Quilting-Warehouse.com in 3,281 yard cones for $14.54 each. They have it in most of the colors. Works well for piecing and quilting on my Juki.

I like Superior's Bottomline for piecing. For a poly quilting thread, I buy from Metro at http://www.metroemb.com/store/. I also buy poly thread from Connecting Threads, and I have a big supply of their cotton thread on small and large spools, but I find that I'm using poly most of the time.

I love this topic! I need to build my thread stock back up, but that can be expensive.. now I have some ideas of where to look
