I live in a motorhome...it's the story of my life!! LOL!!

jcrow 08-29-2012 05:32 AM

It's been over a month and I still can't find that box in my sewing room! And on top of that, my niece is expecting and I bought a book with a pattern for a really nice diaper bag and I searched the whole room for it and it's no place to be found. I paid like $30 for it and need to find it. I already told her I was going to make it for her so she could let everyone know not to get her one. It has lots of patterns in it, is squatty and hardbound with rings, cute as a button, so I'm not just missing it with my eyes. And, I don't even know the name of it to reorder it. The pattern was so perfect! Oh heck!!! I'm going to have to tear my room apart and then I'll find it in another room probably.

fayefromfla 08-29-2012 05:32 AM

oh yes!! I am currently looking for a quilt top that I finally finished for a kids charity quilt made of dogs & cats. I am very organized. I have all my fabric, projects & misc items sorted and in place. I know you're thinking she can't be too organized or she wouldn't be looking high and low for her quilt top!! LOL

matraina 08-29-2012 05:34 AM

When I was a little girl (I went to Catholic school), we were taught if we lost something, say a prayer to St. Anthony: "If by chance, this book should stray into other hands some day, dear St. Anthony, I pray, bring it back without delay." To this day I pray to St. Anthony when I lose something. Funny how you can remember certain things from your childhood.

chaskaquilter 08-29-2012 05:56 AM

I bought a quilt kit with soothing fabrics in it and a simple pattern. This was to be started next week after my grands go back to school. After a summer of hanging with them I have been looking forward to some relaxing time at my machine. Well that kit is no where to be found in my little condo. Now I am getting stressed about not finding it. Oh well I do have other things to work on. I do know I have to figure out why the comma won't work on this infernal machine.

I just recently lost a spatula after cleaning out the bowl from making a cake. I swear I put it in the dish washer. Hasn't been seen since and I did look even in the very bottom of the washer. It has been three months now, so brought a new green one. Still looking though.

lillybeck 08-29-2012 06:19 AM

My hubby says I am the only person in the world who puts things in a safe place to remember it later and never see it again. lol

PenniF 08-29-2012 06:34 AM

Once again you wonderful ladies have made me feel so much better....i'm not alone!! Years ago i heard this little quote that fits this thread - and made a cross stitch that hangs on my sewing room wall.....
"Of all the things i've lost - i miss my mind the most". ;) - almost put that as my signature tag !!!

sandy l 08-29-2012 06:37 AM

I wsh it was just four pieces of fabric! I've lost a whole set of quilt blocks. I got all the blocks made for a queen size, put them on the shelf in a clear plastic box, and now I can't find them. I've gone thru everything twice, so will give up for now, wait a couple of hrs, maybe days, walk back into the sewing room and with any luck, the box will be right there in front of me:D

newbiequilter 08-29-2012 06:49 AM

Could you have decided to use the fabric in the past for another project and bundled it up with a pattern? It could be in a bag or box waiting to be discovered.....don't ask how I know.....lol

Lori S 08-29-2012 07:05 AM

There is a place I call "the land of the lost". It holds all of the mysterious "stuff" we just can never find. Once it gets "full" it will shake out some of the excess , and we are happy to find some items that have gone missing. I have a rotary cutter that has been there for a decade , some day it will shake out.

bearisgray 08-29-2012 07:19 AM

I think there are gremlins or elves that think they need a certain item and just take off with it to their hidey holes.

linhawk 08-29-2012 07:44 AM

The other day I had some green fabric. No one home but me. Now where is it. I was sure I laid it right here.
30 min. later...oh... it's in the washing machine. hmmmm where has my little mind gone?

FroggyinTexas 08-29-2012 08:28 AM

Lost my calendar last week and felt as if someone had stolen my brain. It wasn't anywhere it possibly could have been. Then I opened a drawer that holds my scrapbooking supplies, supplies I haven't used for months and there was the calendar. You will find your material but no telling where! froggyintexas

I'm looking for four pieces of material that I'm reasonably sure that I still have some of. I can't find any of them - and I've gone through most of my fabrics at least twice!

noradi 08-29-2012 08:30 AM

I'm willing to bet that it is right under your nose! I recently spent 3 hours looking for a clamp for my quilt frame. I had lost it, found it & instead of putting it where it belonged I put it where I would find it when needed. Ya right! Yesterday I went into my sewing room & there it laid right on top of a basket that I had went through 2 times!

roserips 08-29-2012 08:33 AM

Our rule of thumb is ask a Grand child they find everything! If you don't have one borrowed ones work also. That is why we share our grand children with all of our friends so there is always a young set of eyes looking from a different perspective.

Kathy Osterby 08-29-2012 08:42 AM

I have a bulletin board where I use post it notes when I find or loose something. Make note to self as to where I put-found things I was looking for last. Like--small scissors with embrodery stuff. My mind can't remember things for too long anymore lol.

IBQLTN 08-29-2012 08:46 AM

Yup, this morning it was my car keys!

Yooper32 08-29-2012 09:27 AM

If you sent it to me....I'll never tell.

karate lady 08-29-2012 10:02 AM

My dd just asked if I had any leftovers from the rail fence quilt I made her. Found 3 of them, but for the life of me I cannot find the border print. I know I didn't use it all. Oh well. she cannot remember what she was going to do with it now any way. LOL>>>>>>>> she is way too young for senior moments.

A few days later, I was with friends in a restaurant, and told them that I couldn't find my invisible thread. Well, that hit Grace's funny bone, and she giggled for ten minutes. Of course I couldn't find it; it's invisible! I still git a giggle when I think about that.
I now remember where it is! It's in a small ring box with a top that springs shut. This keeps the thread from unwinding. A good place! ! !

That is pretty funny!!! :D :D

rosiewell 08-29-2012 03:31 PM

yes, I bought two yards of fabric that I really like 3 months ago, washed it, ironed it and I never saw it again!

blueheavenfla 08-29-2012 04:03 PM

YEP! I have misplaced the fabric that I bought for our charm square exchange next month...time is flying and I can't find it.

Sierra 08-29-2012 04:06 PM

No! I never have problems like that. I.... what is it we are talking about????.... oh, yes... no I don't misplace things, ever. But I have a husband and a dog who pretend to be really nice people (well they both really do) and they can't keep anything where it was.... Oh I feel slightly disturbed.... I need a glass of water! WHO MOVED MY WATER GLASS!

(enough said?)

caspharm 08-29-2012 04:39 PM

It's called putting it somewhere safe, so you can find it later. (you just don't know how much later:))

1screech 08-29-2012 06:00 PM

It is there...I spend half my life looking for that safe place I put things in and then can't find them. When I forget about it, I can usually go right to it later.

quilting in my60s 08-29-2012 06:11 PM

You don't suppose this has anything to do with the aging process?? Nah, couldn't be. I had a ruler/template for circles, the one where you lay it on the fold and cut or make with a pencil the size circle you need. I can't find it anywhere, been missing a couple of years and I am determined not to buy another one! I also am missing my spindle that fits on sewing machine for the spools of thread that have the large hole, that one I think fell into my wastebasket!

captlynhall 08-29-2012 06:12 PM

A couple of weeks ago, I lost my embroidery scissors. I had just been using them to snip frayed ends off fabrics and then suddenly they are gone. I looked here and there, even checked the trash cans in the sewing room and laundry room. Looked in every drawer, twice. Checked on the floor under the quilt in the frames. I was beginning to wonder about myself. (I have been doing that a lot lately). Then I decided to look thru some fabric I had pre-cut for pillow cases and low and behold, there they were, right in the middle of the bunch. I was very happy to have them back, but I can't for the life of me figure out how they got there.

RugosaB 08-29-2012 08:22 PM

I am convinced I had a million dollars before my car accident (TBI) but just can't remember what I did with it. It's going to turn up any day now.

beatys9 08-29-2012 08:30 PM

Yep. Spent about 45 minutes doing the very same thing tonight. I have the perfect fabric for some pillowcases I'm working on tonight but who knows where I put it!

Jim 08-29-2012 09:20 PM

I have been looking for TWO not just one but TWO pairs of Fiskars snippers that I use on flannel rag quilts. One I used outside for trimming small boxwoods stems and clipping small rose stems and dead heading(originally I found them in the gardening section) The other pair were in my sewing supplies I just hope they are together and having a good laugh at me together...been looking for them for over a year...arggg...someday to be found and who knows maybe I will be proud Papa to twin snippets.

joan3111 08-30-2012 03:21 AM

I have a laptop in my sewing room and a document in Excel entitled "Where Is It" - now that I am older (78+) I have difficulty remembering where I put things so if I purchase something new I put it in the Excel document. Excel will sort alphabetically so I cross-reference the item several different ways if I think it will be trouble finding. This only takes such a bit of time and sure saves me A LOT of time looking for things... I also have the same document on my computer upstairs. This getting older is the pits - sure affects the memory...(grin)....

Grannyh67 08-30-2012 03:56 AM

Yes, I made Swirling Sunbonnet Girl Block for a Quilt. Half were facing left and half were facing right. Well when it came to putting the blocks together I could not find half of them. I looked for a week, finally giving up I embroidered the half I had lost again. Finished the little quilt. About a month later I was cleaning out a drawer and there they were in the baggy right where I put them. I still say I have a ghost in this house, lol. So now I have half the blocks left. I had looked right where I found them too. Sometimes I question my sanity.

rj.neihart 08-30-2012 04:16 AM

I agree...sometimes stop looking and it will jump out at you!

Scakes 08-30-2012 07:06 AM

Things like this are getting to be normal for me. I "lost" a piece of fabric a couple months ago. Not a small piece - it was 4 or 5 yards big. I hunted high and low - emptied things out. It almost drove me crazy. Finally decided to give it a rest and do another project. Walked into my sewing room 1 morning and my tall stack of kids prints had toppled over. Started picking them up and at the bottom of the pile was the other fabric I had been looking for. It was not a kids print so don't know why it was there but I was glad to finally see it. Seems like things always turn up - you just don't know when or where. :)

vickig626 08-30-2012 07:38 AM

all the time. Actually 2 days ago I was working on an embroidery project and "thought" I misplaced my embroidery foot. I'm very anal about where I keep my feet and notions so I looked for at least 10 minutes around my sewing space with no luck. I finally thought I will have to go to the sewing machine shop to pick up another one (and getting very mad at myself for misplacing it). I then found it right in front of me - I don't even remember taking it out of the drawer. This is very frustrating for me and, lately, it's happening more frequently. I'm going to call me doctor to see if she can help me understand what is causing this.

In my case, it's probably a memory issue relating to my fibromyalgia.

JanieH 08-30-2012 08:22 AM

Personally I am blaming all my missing stuff on my two new kittens - either they have carried it off or I am so worn out with their antics that I can't be responsible for where anything is! That's my story and I am sticking to it!

Make a baby blanket with the ones you just found! By the way, I don't put things in a "good" place, or a "safe" place, because these are too general. I put things in a good and secure safe place. That way when I find that place again, everything will be there.

nstitches4u 08-30-2012 01:53 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I spend half my time looking for things. I usually give up and I find whatever I was looking for days (or weeks) later when I am looking for something else.

faykilgore 08-30-2012 02:10 PM

I always blame the cats. If they didn't put it there, I put it there to keep them off of it until I could put it where it should be. As to Joan3111, an excel sheet? That is WAAAY too organized for my personality.
