Where is it??
Have you ever misplaced something - and you think you still have it - and can't find it?
I'm looking for four pieces of material that I'm reasonably sure that I still have some of. I can't find any of them - and I've gone through most of my fabrics at least twice! |
You will find it after you stop looking and start looking for something else. I do that all the time.
I always find whatever I'm not looking for. Usually after I bought more fabric. I have a pattern that I KNOW I have and can never find it when I decide to look for it. When I'm looking for something else it shows up. I put it in a 'place I'll find it again' and it's gone again. SIGH
you will find it in 6 months, when you no longer need it and don't remember you were looking for it or why.....
Happens to me on a montly basis. As for my dh as soon as he goes out and buys what ever it was he couldn't find...he finds it the next day.
Right now I can't find my grandmother's quilt. I have no idea what happened to it. It's just gone and it's always been put up in the same closet. I'm upset because it's missing and more upset thinking someone could have taken it. I have an idea who took it but of course can't prove it and the person knows I'm missing the quilt and acts like it doesn't matter, it's just a quilt. I'll keep looking for the benefit of a doubt.
just carry a sticky note pad and pen and when you start looking for something
else it will pop up. if you dont pick it up right away write your self a note where it is. ha ha put sticky note on kitchen counter thats where my notes are ha ha |
I'm pretty sure it will be safe and sound in the last place you look
I posted about a quilting hoop I could not find, eventually found it in the attic, where I KNOW I did not put it, nor did my DH.
Oh, those pesky little sewing room gremlins move my stuff around all the time too. The joke is on them though because I eventually find what I was looking for... in whatever odd place they hid it. ;) Don't worry, your fabrics will turn up.
I am hoping you find it. I lost one piece (9 yds) and it was someone else's fabric! Luckily it was a line I could find so I replaced it. I am still hoing to find it some day!

I'm not sure we can help you, but good luck ;-)
I usually "lose" rulers, pencils, and seam rippers. One minute it'll be in my hand . . . then it's suddenly gone!
I almost suggested you post a picture of the missing fabric . . . then it dawned on me that you can't take a picture of something you can't find. DUH! :p |
I don't often misplace things, but when I can't find something I'm sure I still have, I try to remember what I was doing the last time I saw it....where I was, what I was working on, that kind of thing. The system works pretty well for me. I've always been 'the finder' for my kid, spouse, coworkers, bosses.... :o
And isn't it true, we always find them in the LAST place we look? DUH :)
That's the story of my life...and not just fabric!
I understand your pain. I've been slowly reorganizing my sewing room, and while things are certainly neater they are also harder to find.

Yep! spent a couple days last week looking for my 12 1/2" square. It was right in front of me, under some fabric i swear i picked up-more than once. Gremlins at work, perhaps??
I don't 'need' those pieces of fabric - although I did have something in mind for them.
Ever wonder why we say 'it's the last place we looked'? I say it, too. But when I think about it, it seems to be a reasonable statement - even though most of us don't look any more places after we've found whatever! |
My solution, go buy more...you're sure to find it
Been there, done that. I have done this some many times I am assumed to count them. Most of the time its stuff I use on a regular basis and have just had it in may hand then the phone rings or someone comes to the door and it disappears. Most of the time its due to me carrying it with me to answer said door or phone. I once lost the remote to my television. A couple hours later after searching and searching even enlisting DH to help couldn't find it. We just forgot about it and delt with changing the channels the old fashioned way, DH then went to get a snack and guess where he found it. In the freezer. Evidently when I went to get myself a bowl of ice cream earlier that day I stuck it in there. Why, dont know but there it was. We had a good laugh over it even though he then figured out why the ice cream in the house was always disappearing so fast.LOL

Almost everytime I can not find something..... Its because it is under something. I do it all the time, and when I find it its under something!!
I am reasonably sure that your fabric is in a safe place. A safe place is where I put things that I especially do not want to lose and want to be able to find immediately when I need them. Unfortunately a safe place moves around, and I am rarely able to find anything I put there. I bought a DVD for my daughter, the sixth DVD in a series, and put it in a safe place until an appropriate gift-giving holiday arrived. Needless to say, I have never found it (going on three years now). I even have the receipt for the DVD so I know I didn't just dream I bought it, and I refuse to buy a replacement...because I know the original is here, in a safe place.
I hope you have better luck with your fabric search! Alison |
Oh my dear, you are sooooo normal! I don't know what I'd do if things stayed where they belonged. I'm always looking for something.
Are you sure you did not sell it to me by mistake...lol. Hope it turns up.
I'm another "finder" and I usually know where everything is, to a crazy degree. But boy...when I lose something...it is LOST. And I panic horribly because I'm not used to not knowing where something important is!
Usually it's lost because someone (meaning, my husband) moved it into a weird place and then forgot about it. I "lost" my wallet somewhere in the house once, and found it a year later...he had put it into a box with a bunch of CD's we had also "lost" and other misc. household junk and put it up into the hall closet. Why? He was "cleaning up". Aaaahhhh!!! I fretted over that lost wallet for MONTHS!! So hopefully my husband didn't come over and "clean up" at your place. If so, you'll find it (and everything else you've been missing) all lumped together somewhere, in about a year or so. :D |
Is it possible they are folded up together with another fabric? In my shop we used to stack our fabrics when we cut. Sometimes a customer would get home and couldn't find one or another piece she was sure she bought, and then call us. Always we told her to shake open every piece and the one she wanted would fall out. And it did!
Hope you find it.:) Jan in VA |
Oh yeah...like the design wall my mother gave me for Christmas. I have moved since then and simply cannot find it!! I have gone through boxes twice looking for it. I know it is in the garage somewhere...
Saint Anthony is the saint of lost things. Try this little poem.
Tony Tony look around, Something's lost and must be found. Good luck! |
I would bet it is with the missing socks!!!
I agree. Bearisgray, you sound like your stash is as massive as mine is LOL

luckily (?), i have such a small space where i store my fabric that i must keep everything in order. there are so few places to look that i can find it quickly. as far as my seam ripper, scissors, etc. go, i know they are on the table somewhere, but still can't locate them quickly! so, perhaps more organization might be in order.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that.
I was looking for my invisible thread a few years back. Looked all over and couldn't find it. Forgot about it and then found it later and said to myself, "Oh, that's a good place for it, I'll leave it there." Later I was looking for it again and couldn't remember where this "good" place was.
A few days later, I was with friends in a restaurant, and told them that I couldn't find my invisible thread. Well, that hit Grace's funny bone, and she giggled for ten minutes. Of course I couldn't find it; it's invisible! I still git a giggle when I think about that. I now remember where it is! It's in a small ring box with a top that springs shut. This keeps the thread from unwinding. A good place! ! ! |
So now you get to go shopping for something similar!!! :p
Gosh I really dislike it when the gremlins come out and take my stuff ... and misplace it for me ..LOL I guess I could blame the dog !LOL for misplacing it.
It will turn up when you least expect it |
