I know this has been talked about before but I think it needs repeating:

The other day my DH and I were talking about updating our will and I asked him what he would do with my quilts when I'm gone. His answered shocked me! I told him I wanted my DD and granddaughters to have my quilts. I guess I need to write down where I want my treasures to go. (Thought he would have known that). This is a conversation I think we all should have with a family member when planning our wills.

this is so true. and if your family is not interested in having your crafting supplies, provide a good source to sell them to or to have them sold for them. they wouldn't have a clue how to search that out.

Makes me think I should remind DH that my Pfaff goes to my sister Carol and she has first choice at my stash, my quilting friend Elaine gets 2nd choice and rest goes to my Guild. Never thought about my quilts although I give away most that I make. Hmm, who would want my first quilt, all those challenge quilts and the ones made especially for quilt shows? Something to think about.

Guess the subject has crossed my mind as lately if I'm going to make a challenge quilt I make it do double duty as a quilt for someone. Last challenge quilt had to be at least 40 X 40 and use a certain fabric so I made it large enough for my granddaughter's dorm quilt, challenge met and granddaughter had a quilt to take to college with her.

We all should sit down and have this conversation with our significant others. Machine(s) to ...., stash to ....... books to ...., scraps to ......

OR put it in writing and post it on our sewing room door, for all to see. ;)

I just want to come back as a ghost and listen to the kids as they try to make sense of my mess!!

This is a subject that should be discussed. There are so many familys that do not see any value in our sewing machines and quilts or quilting items. Write down what you want done with these items. It will also save the family from some disappointments to. I have seen familys divided over less never to speak to each other again. And if you think that would not happen with my kids you might be suprised in the end.

I have no idea.. I give most of my things away.. I have a few quilts from my grandmother's .. but the kids appear to have very little interst.. along with my china and crystal that all would I married - so carefully registered for.. this generation. "We don't want old stuff Mom."

I try not to think about it. :(

I have told my DD to call my friends. That will take care of dividing and loving it and my machines.

Definitely put in writing your wishes for passing along your quilts and anything else you have a special request about. Then, make copies and give a copy of the paper along with a picture of the item to the person who is to get it upon your death. Your husband may not be here to carry out your wishes. You may consider passing along your treasures NOW, so you'll have the joy of seeing for yourself the happiness it brings to your loved ones to have them. A person's wishes are often not carried out upon his or her death, no matter who is requested to do it.
