I have my sewing machine on a table away from the wall and butted up (back to back) next to my sewing machine table is another cutting, work table, etc. When I machine quilt the quilt goes onto the work table butted up against my sewing machine and I have a fold up table that I put to the left of my sewing machine to hold the bulk of the quilt while I am quilting. It works great for me.

I bought the quilt suspension system from Patsy Thompson Designs. Take a look at it. Very helpful.

I have a 6 foot table against the wall then put the ironing board with the 3 foot edge butted up to edge of table.

Hubby made wooden 3X5 top for it . It works real well.

"It is against a wall because it's really the only place I have room for it. When I do FMQ I almost always move everything to the dining room table because I have more space."

This is my situation too.

Last year it was unusually cold in southern california (I can hear the laughing from folks in the 'actual' winter states). I have no insulation in my workroom, twenty feet of single pane north facing windows and I do most of my sewing at night. I bought a small table and put it in the dining room over the heat grate! To handle quilting, I set up a wooden tray and put my big cutting mat on it. It supports the quilt and is easily removed and stored. It has worked so well that I have kept that table and machine up.

My sewing machine is in front of a large window, against a wall, because I like looking out the window.

My machine is against a wall which is ok for piecing and chin piecing but I put it on my cutting table to quilt. Don't like it bunching up aganist the wall.

I've quilted on the dining room table, in the middle of the room and on a desktop against the wall. Neither one presented any issues. I do hand quilt about 80% of my quilts, though.

My machine faces the middle of the room, my back is to the window - I like the light behind me. My table has an extension arm that I keep up so any quilt work has plenty of room (over 4 feet) so it doesn't hang anywhere.
