If you like batiks, Fabric Fanatics are great for them. Their on-line store is huge and photos are pretty true to color

Go to a bookstore and look through current magazines. I would be careful asking non-sewers to buy material. Maybe it would be better to ask for a gift card to a specific store, like Hancocks of Paducah.
