Does anyone know what's happened to Liz Porter? I see Marianne Fons and her daughter hosting the new series. It's just not the same without Liz.

Tink's Mom 09-18-2010 03:30 PM

I believe I heard that she has retired...

Sadiemae 09-18-2010 03:39 PM

She wanted to spend time with her family.

peaceandjoy 09-18-2010 03:56 PM

I think they wrapped her in plastic so nobody could see her.

Well, good for her but the show is just not the same. Plus, I see they've switched from Bernina to Babylock machines (which I have and love it). Thanks for the update. I couldn't find anything on the website about her.

When Fons started the new series with her daughter; they talked about Liz and that she is retiring to spend time with family. Watched it on PBS.

I guess I must have missed that episode.

Nolee 09-18-2010 05:21 PM

Could I ask just where you see this program? Simply Quilts and For the Love of Quilting with Fons and Porter went off our public station last year and there has been no sign of them since.

raptureready 09-18-2010 05:34 PM

I wrote to F&P and asked where she was and was emailed back that she had chosen to move to Texas in order to spend more time with her family. However that's a fairly "pat" answer that everyone gives so take it for what it's worth......

That's what I'd like to know. I've only seen one program on PBS and that was because I happened to stumble on it while surfing one day. Never found it again. It's gone I guess.

featherweight 09-18-2010 06:22 PM

You gals are lucky, We don't get the show in Denver any more.

Melinda in Tulsa 09-18-2010 08:22 PM

Fons and Porter comes on here in Tulsa weekly but so far have not shown any of the new shows. I hope they hurry, I'm tired of the old shows.

amma 09-18-2010 09:12 PM

Our PBS has dropped airing the new shows, all we get now are the reruns :(

stitchinwitch 09-19-2010 12:38 AM

The show is not the same - I was wondering if she was ill. Did Liz ever tell the viewers herself?? 'sure wish she could come back - even for a visit and answer all our questions.

luv-e 09-19-2010 08:18 AM

PBS stations are different in each state. You can go on F&P Site and look up the PBS stations they are on. They even ask that you contact your local PBS and request F&P.
My PBS Station's are out of Huntington,WV and Athen's, Ohio.
Hope that has helped.
Oh!! if you have Direct TV, look for the PBS stations on there too. Good Luck

quiltlady37 09-19-2010 08:23 AM

While on our bus trip, we talked to a woman from Winterset, Ia. that knows them personally. She told us that Fons and Porter sold out to Keepsake Quilting and Liz decided to retire. Keepsake Quilting has kept Mary Ann and her daughter to do the shows. I can't say that is what really happened, but this woman seemed to know the whole story. She is not a fan of Fons and Porter.

Why isn't she a fan????? Doesn't KSQ carry F&P items too.??? Maybe that is why. Interesting hmmmmmmmmm. Good to know,Thanks

quiltlady37 09-19-2010 08:49 AM

I live in Iowa too and have gone to the store in Winterset. Everyone loved Liz, but Mary Ann is rather difficult to deal with. I am sorry that this sounds demeaning, but it is a fact.

luv-e 09-19-2010 08:54 AM

Ya just never know. On TV ,to me, Liz would be the snubby one. Just goes to show ya. Either way ,it is SAD

Nolee 09-19-2010 09:03 AM

I had heard a 24/7 quilting channel will be starting on cable soon. Anyone else heard that? I'd NEVER sleep!!!!!!!

pookie ookie 09-19-2010 09:08 AM

Never saw the show. Guess it doesn't air here.

I'd like to know why my one and only F&P purchase has been backordered for months. :0P

littlehud 09-19-2010 05:41 PM

I miss her, but if she wants to retire and spend more time with the family I'm glad she can.

MaryAnna 09-20-2010 03:11 AM

I miss Liz as well...I"ve seen the new version of the show with Marianne's daughter, it's just 'ok'. Liz added so much to the show. But I'm glad she was able to do what she wanted and retire. I wish her all the best.
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

I took a class with her years ago and can attest to that.

I have heard that too; but have seen no sign of it coming to my cable station.

sjhughson 09-20-2010 04:58 AM

I don't get any sewing quilting shows on PBS here. I get my shows on-line at QNN, etc. I didn't reup my TQS membership. Priced out of my bracket. LOL

AlienQuilter 09-20-2010 06:03 AM

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that F&P doesn't charge for their show so your PBS station won't have to pay to have it. Write your local PBS and see what the deal is.

As for the new show, lets give them a chance. It's really easy to take over for someone when they are not good, but when they are really good, they leave behind very big shoes to fill. I think it's nice that Marianne and her daughter get to do a show together. And they also make sure we know when it's a Liz pattern or idea that they are talking about.

hobo2000 09-20-2010 06:42 AM

It was my understanding, years ago when I took a class, Liz introduced Mary Ann to her brother and they got married so they are sisters by marriage. They seemed really happy about it but that was about 10 years ago.

Where did you hear about it??????????????? I miss SQ ALOT
Have you watched the www.quilterstv.com??? I like it. They just don't update fast enough for me lol lol lol

Pquilter 04-25-2011 09:55 AM

I miss her. I have seen a few shows now with Mary and I just don't care for her style.

I would rather watch Liz than Marianne! And, that's not intended to put Marianne down...I just liked Liz!

If you have directv it is on the BYU channel 374. Simply Quilts has completely gone off the air so I'm told.
