on a really good sale, i buy white and white-on-white by the bolt. for the white-on-white i choose a small pattern, so it reads as a texture, not a pattern. my basic by-the-bolt colors are whites and blacks. i get plenty of the white and black because no two are ever the same.

a bolt of white is always good to have around. you never know what pattern you would like to use it for. the same goes for black. but that being said you really should just build your stash "slowly" that way when you start to get a since of what you like in your quilts you can buy solids tonals and blenders accordingly. I bought 6 yards of white and I am almost out of it and this was over the summer. I wish that I had gotten 12 yards of it but could only get the 6 at the time. I got Kona white not sure which white I got but it was on sale. that was all that mattered.

I have a large stash of white on white and when I went to use some the other day I found that the "paint" that was used for the pattern had yellowed. I had it stored in a trunk, in a bag. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you fix it. Hoping it will wash out, but haven't had time to wash it yet, just put the project on hold for now.

it's been my experience that the yellow doesn't come out.
however, i've still used it and called it 'off-white'. when the quilt was done, it looked fine, even to me. as long as it's consistent in color and not something that HAS to be white, like a snowman, you should be okay.

Also try to remember that *quilts dont have to have a white, cream, or black background* you can have a major part of a quilt have lots of other colored backgrounds.. brown.. green, blue, red, purple... violet... yellow.. lots of other backgrounds......

I buy white, white on white, cream or ecru, tea dyed muslin, and black by the bolt especially n ow that fabric is going up in price, and I only do wallhangings

I buy muslin by the bolt, black & white fabric 10+ yards as I consider these to be the basics.

Where do I find the Kona Snow, Online or in a store?

If you are a hand quilter, you might remember white on white sometimes is hard to quilt through. But it is always pretty. I usually prefer and off white.
