If it's not too late to join in... I REALLY need some encouragement on one particular quilt that I started 4 years ago for DH. I call it "Happy Trails", but for many reasons it has become "Unhappy TRIALS". The top is done, I had it all pin basted (1st time pin basting something this large, 60 x 75, and even managed to sew several SITD rows that ALL need to be ripped out. I just wanted to 'git er done', and made too many mistakes.

So, I'll start by ripping out the bad rows of stitching, then I'm going to proceed with spray basting, and to a new backing. The old one was pieced in such a way as it was way too difficult for me to line up with the front. I just purchased a piece of wide backing yesterday, so that should be much easier to work with.

Of course I have several other UFO's, but this one is critical to finish. I'm only going to list them one at a time, so I don't become overwhelmed. Looking forward to seeing and hearing about everyone's progress. We can do this, right?!

There is no deadline on joining this challenge. All are welcome and the more the merrier.

I just counted my UFO's (Well sort of) and there are 17. I will attempt to complete a few between now and the end of the year. There are some that I did not count because, to tell the truth, I have truly lost interest. That is why I think a challenge helps me. If I can get SOME of them finished, maybe I will be more likely to get back to those as well.

By the way, we are now 33 in number. I am so HAPPY that you are all joining me.

What a little cutie in the photo.
Did you make what he is wearing? Your full of talent.
I'm jealous you went to a quilt show. And bought Christmas fabric.
I actaully bought a kit a couple weeks ago called Winter Welcome by
Moda with a snowman and birdies. Cute stuff. I'm hoping to get a few
UFO's finished this week so I can start on that. I better get moving on it
so I can have it done for THIS Christmas.
Have fun stitchin. :D

Ok, I'm in . 1. Finish Grandson #3s train quilt, 2. finish taking apart my eight point star quilt, put the batting in and reposition the backing and quilt it all over again.
If I can get those 2 done I will be way ahead of myself for once.

dglvr 09-08-2009 03:13 PM

Anne, forgot to mention about the UFO's. I forgot to count how many I have so I'll get back with you on that when I figure that out. That could take awhile. Ha. I'm glad so many are joining in on that.
Be glad to see finished project pictures. Wooops did I say that? I guess that means I'll have to take pictures of mine to huh? I better get busy.
Have a wonderful day everyone
Kim

I am in! I lost my mind and decided to do lap quilts for all my siblings (5), my Mom, one for my son and one for my daughter-in- law for Christmas. Four tops are done, two are cut out, one is waiting to be cut and one I have no idea what I am doing. My DH has been helping to pick out fabrics and is a great at nagging me to get em done. So, with your encouragement I can do it!

mawmaw 09-08-2009 03:56 PM

Count me in! I have a baby quilt to finish quilting this week. In the meantime I have been making items for a church bazaar to be held in November. I still have a lot to sew.......totes, clothesline bowls, notepad holders, pincushions, pillows, etc. Only one other lady sews besides me.

After the bazaar maybe I can get my UFOs finished......I need the challenge of a time limit.

I'm in!!!!!!!!

I have lost count of the number of UFOs I have in my storage pantry!!! it's overflowing and I have to fight to keep the doors closed LOL

Covered in Threads 09-21-2009 10:21 AM

Great job mawmaw,
I feel previleged to be included in this group of very accomplished quilters. I'm especially drawn to the yo-yo quilt. :D Brings back some very special memories.

Quilt4u 09-21-2009 11:01 AM

Wow!!! mawmaw You have been busy. I put down three And I'll be lucky if I get one done.

Boston1954 09-21-2009 11:51 AM

I put down one, and I finished two others before I got going on this. (Actually Lincoln's Legacy was not a UFO), but "Harvest" was and I am proud that it is done. It hangs on a rack in the living room right now. The Nine Patch I am working on right now, I am "lightly" quilting. I am just going around the edges of each block and maybe the middle square. Just want to get it over and done with. The thing is 10 years old. I would almost bet the fabrics in this are all discontinued.....

Anyway, when this is done, I have one called "Pipe Dream" that is a UFO and I can get back on that also.

Good luck to us all. Think of how much we can get done between now and New Year's.

Lyn4ty 09-21-2009 12:39 PM

great looking quilts and basket!! wow, wish I could get that much done. Been with my oldest son all weekend and have gotten nothing done on my ufo or christmas quilting at all. Hope to do better this coming weekend for sure!!

OK - count me in... .I work so much better under a time limit.

I have a log cabin queen size I just started in May to give to my daughter and son in law. Will shoot for the top being completed - as I need to hand quilt it.

Autumn wall hanging - finally just got the background fabric for the paper piecing and backgrd of the leaves.

This is how much I have done on the log cabin quilt ... have a ways to go : )

Thanks for all the compliments! I try to do something quilty or crafty every day except Sundays. Today has been a mostly non-productive day. Can't seem to stick to anything very long. Do any of you ever have that problem? Don't feel bad or sad, just not enough glue!!

DA Mayer 09-22-2009 05:31 PM

I will certainly try

Quiltgranny 09-22-2009 06:28 PM

Progress update:

I only got two rows ripped out on my project and had to quit for a while due to my tendinitis. But, in the meantime, I picked up a "Star of Wonder" panel that I had the top completed but needed to finish. I'm happy to say, that it's been sandwiched and nearing quilting completion. I have one more border side to finish quilting on then I'll be ready to sew on the binding. This is for a family member for Christmas - THIS coming Christmas. Yay, it's gonna be done on time!!

Keep up the great work everyone!!

Ok here is my UFO finished. I started it in 1983. I didn't work on it for years and then picked it up again about three years ago. Again I worked on it and put it away then picked it up again.

Quiltgranny 09-22-2009 08:44 PM

Congratulations!! That's one awesome scrap quilt! Good for you for finally finishing it. Doesn't that feel SO good now? YAY!! You are definitely an inspiration!! So, what's next for you?

Happy quilting,

kwhite 09-23-2009 06:04 AM

mawmaw 09-23-2009 06:38 AM

Sure! I need a vacation! In fact, we've been trying to work out a week without doctor's appointments, church activities, etc. to hit the road!

mawmaw 09-23-2009 06:40 AM

Great scrappy nine patch!

Here's what I've gotten done so far on the grandsons quilt. This is the middle part of the quilt. I could have done it a lot quicker if I didn't think I have to do the applcay by hand. I surprised myself as one side is only a 1/4 inch longer than the other which is an easy fix. I'm now getting anxious to see how it will look when I get it all finished.

juneeloonee 10-11-2009 02:48 AM

I'm up for the challenge! I have so many UFO's I'm finding it difficult to choose, so here goes -
1. a surprise friendship quilt that I am overseeing and putting all the pieces together for our leader (a priority for our Christmas luncheon)
2. Gramercy Park for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas
3. a confetti in the corner that just needs the borders finished
4. my original sampler king size that needs its borders
5 a cute poppie king size that needs lots of work
I have lots more but just to get them done would be amazing!

I'd better get started........ sew I'm off to my machine!

(Now that it's down in the computer I really am accountable!)

Maksi 10-11-2009 03:03 AM

Well count me in. :D Because I have at least 5 UFO's... 8)

Boston1954 10-11-2009 11:06 AM

Well, it is official. We have exceeded last year's count. Last year we had 41 say they wanted to join in and as of today, we have 44. Just think of how many quilts will be worked on and finished between now and New Year's Eve.

Staggers the mind.

Barbm 10-11-2009 11:17 AM

I'm in. I have maybe 5 or 6 started. Plan on finishing 2 or 3 before starting any more large projects. I have 2 brick and cobblestones cut out that I would like to finish for gifts and my husband's quilt. I purposely have not finished his- he wants to use it and it will be too nice for him to have. :) I want him to hang it up. I'm thinking if I do a brick & cobblestone one for the family room, he will not want to use his good one.

Now, to get started.
