Boston1954 08-30-2009 01:54 PM

Some of you may remember in the middle of September of last year when I suggested that we pick one of our unfinished objects and set a goal of getting it completed by New Year's Eve. Well, I have been thinking that it might be fun to do that again.

I have a Christmas one that is pinned and ready to hand quilt. I also have a number of others that are in various stages of not-done-yet.

We have an extra two weeks this time around. Anyone want to join me?

bebe 08-30-2009 02:25 PM

Okay I will join you I only have 25 or so to finish :D :D :D
What is the deadline to finish them all :?: :?: :?:
I have compled 3 or the 25 so I am down to 23 Wow wow wow :!: :!: :!:

Mine are in different stages where to begin

I am working on my 4th UFO now

Jim's Gem 08-30-2009 02:27 PM

Yes!!! I have 4 I want to finish before the first of November. I'm hoping I can actually get 6 done, it would put a nice dent in my UFO's. I am having shoulder surgery the beginning of November so will not be able to sew for a couple of months again. I have to work work work to get these done!! Of course all these UFO are tops, I will have to tackle the others some other day.
Do we need to list them. Hmmm then we may actually be accountable if someone on here remembers to ask us if we have finished them.

1. Devoted, oversized queen for my bed, still need borders, 2 years old
2. Johnny-Jump-Ups, wall hanging, ummm 6 years needs backing and quilting
3. Radio Flyer, double size, needs quilting, 2 years old
4. The Journey Home, double size, needs quilting, 9 mos old
5. (forgot the name) Floral (hmm most are) large lap, needs quilting, 3 years old
6. Pillows for DD#3, needs quilting and made into pillows, 4 years old.

This is not counting the two WIP's, one I am giving on the 19th of September and a wedding gift that I picked out the fabrics last night needed October 10.

Ok, that's enough. I still have 3 others hanging on my "quilt Hanger" (treadmill)

lyndawn 08-30-2009 02:31 PM

I'm in! I have one I am doing QAYG. I have 35-40 of the 54 blocks needed (I better double check that it's been a while). I have 13 quilted. I would love to give it as a Christmas gift.

I think the pattern is Cain and Abel from quilterscache.com

redkimba 08-30-2009 02:55 PM

I'll join in - I still have that one quilt in the frame & not done yet. (It's the green one for anyone who's seen the picture)

justwannaquilt 08-30-2009 04:34 PM

I'll join ya, I have....

Quilt for my husbands Grandmother I started last year around the middle of October, pieced and half way quilted.
Quilt for my little sister top is done and quilting is started.
quilt for our couch top done, back needs pieced together and started.
Rag quilt for my daughter started but ran out of pink flannel.
Blue jean rag "outting" blanket DONE needs cut and asked.
Three scarecrow door hangers (one is in my Machine right now)
One snowman door hanger
Two tree skirts (they are the same for different people) one needs binding and its done the other isn't even started!

I have a Grandmother's Flower Garden that is in the works but I KNOW it won't get done by the first of the year, I just started it this week!

I have a birthday this week (the 3rd) that I still need to sew a few things for also!

good luck to us all!! Maybe if I finish a few quilts that will be their Christmas marked off my list! lol

Boston1954 08-30-2009 04:57 PM

That is a wonderful start. The only rules are that you pick one that you truly feel you can get finished by New Year's Eve. You can quilt right up til midnight December 31st.

Now if you feel you can complete more than one, you may do as many as you wish. As I had said previously, mine is a Christmas quilt. The top was done over a decade ago, I believe. Last year I got some backing and pinned it and then it was after Christmas, so I did not feel like working on it. Now that it is headed for Fall, I am wanting to get it done.

Pick anything you like. Last time a few people said that they had some that they planned to just get the top finished. Whatever your project, I just wanted to give us all some inspiration.

Have Fun. I will make a post in the picture section so that you can show us what you are going to work on. The title of the post is "For The UFO Challenge."

Shemjo 08-30-2009 05:03 PM

I surely NEED to join this! I am moving things around and finding all kinds of stuff that is in need of being finished! I will have to look at what I have to finish and pick ONE! That should be easy! :?

littlehud 08-30-2009 05:33 PM

I'm game. I have a cat top, a coffee top and am working on finishing a lots of dots top. My goal is to have them all spray basted and quilted. The rest will have to wait.

ScubaK 08-30-2009 05:35 PM

WOW!!!
I thought my list was long!!!! LOL!
I will have to give this some thought.
Kirsten

meeeeee. i only have 3, but i really need to get the backs on them and tied

OdessaQuilts 08-31-2009 06:19 AM

I NEED to be in this! (Not that I don't necessarily WANT to join in the fun, but ....). Well, maybe if I put it in writing, it will become fact.

I am only planning on 2 UFO completions this time around:

1. A Full/Queen quilt that I started for my parents' 30th wedding anniversary, then the top was nearly done by their 35th, started hand quilting it with ruby-colored thread to be completed by their 40th ... well, they've now been married 58 years this past May and I REALLY NEED TO GET IT DONE!!! NOW IS THE TIME! (The family joke is that neither one of them is going to die until I finish their quilt ... maybe that's why it isn't done yet!)

2. A "repair job" for my brother-in-law. It's a comforter his grandmother made for him so many years ago. She's long gone now, and it was destined for the trash about 8 years ago, so I rescued it and have been replacing the patches by hand with new materials. I am not removing anything granny did; the love and her work will all still be there, just underneath the new triangles I am replacing. I'm trying to work with shirting-type stripes and plaids to keep in the same style as best I can.

So, dare I ask this question, does anyone have any long-term UFO's that can beat my record here???

I would like for both of these to be completed by Christmas so that they can be gifts. Do you all think I can do it???

Will you be my cheerleaders???

Thanx for the help,

Odessa

sewjoyce 08-31-2009 06:33 AM

Beth-Anne Bousquet 08-31-2009 11:08 AM

I would like to try to finish my 3 quilts that are started, but with 4 kids, a dog ,a busy homeschooling schedual and many other activities going on around here, it may be difficult.

My projects are:

a queen size kaliedascope quilt, block pcs all cut out and mostly sewn together into strips, for myself ( machine sewn)

a twin sized grandmother's flower garden, with Sunbonnet Sue's ,hearts, pinwheels, and stars blocks around the edges, about half of the grandmother's fg is done some of the applique blocks are done most of the other blocks are cut and pinned, ready to be sewn, this is foe my dd (mostly hand pc, but some machine) will be hand quilted, my first one!!

Cross Roads for my ds, some pcs cut out

and that is what I am working on.

MadQuilter 08-31-2009 05:03 PM

I signed up for three classes at the LQS so I see a few more UFOs in my future. Let's see if I can finish at least one of the class projects.

then there is Kennedy's Hands quilt and her Brother's Baseball quilt. Those are on top of the list. I'll add more later.

QuiltMania 08-31-2009 05:14 PM

I'm in. Don't know what I'll pick yet.

Boston1954 08-31-2009 05:18 PM

Looks like we are doing quite well. I count 16 including myself.

Remember not to overload yourselves. Set a reasonable goal. If you are able to finish more than one, great! I just wanted to inspire not tire.

AnnaK 09-02-2009 07:48 AM

Okay, I'm in too. How about before and after pics? One of our UFO and then our finished project. I only have about 14 that I can choose from.

I have an applique project in a kit that I bought back about 10 years ago and have completed the blocks (well 9 out of 12) but I have decided to leave it at 9 blocks and I need to set it. I'm in.

Gwyn 09-02-2009 09:43 AM

I have so much planned. If I just keep caught up, I will be okay. I'm in.

My hubby has declared 2010 the Year of the Unfinished Project. He gets to complete my sewing cottage and I get to finish all my old projects. No new money for anything new until the old is done and out of the house!

Starts January 2, 2010 (I have to do the Patchwork Planet Mystery on the 1st.) Anyone with me?

Gwyn

Bucket 09-03-2009 07:04 AM

I'm in. I have a quilt top that I first learned applique on. The kit was from Joanns, with a themed block for each month of the year. I'm in love with the colors and designs. I just haven't made the time to add the borders or quilt it. Now I have a guest bed that wants to be covered with this cutie!

oksewglad 09-03-2009 07:25 AM

Justwannaquilt--Happy Birthday--my wish for you is a day of quilting--well we can wish can't we

oksewglad 09-03-2009 07:29 AM

I'm in too, but don't want to take time to make the list  I'd rather be quilting

Covered in Threads 09-03-2009 08:11 AM

Count me in! I have a one block wonder that I really don't like! Way too busy for me! Just need some encouragement and crossed fingers to get it done.

ginnie6 09-03-2009 08:43 AM

I'm in too! I have three lapquilts that are Christmas presents that I must get done. I hope to get them pinned this weekend and start quilting next week. The other one I have done this size did not take too long so these shouldn't either! If I finish those three I have one other that I can work on quilting.

busiacam 09-03-2009 12:49 PM

Boston,
Count me in. I have the one that is posted with all of my messages that needs to be done by November 3rd. I know of at least 6 others that need to be completed. I will pick out a couple from this pile and work on them. Thanks for the challenge.
Chris from AZ

Skeat 09-03-2009 03:37 PM

Lyn4ty 09-03-2009 03:47 PM

Oh yeah count me in on this UFO idea. I have lost count of all the UFO projects I have stuffed in containers, but I have a fall quilt I would love to get finished even if it's Christmas when it gets done. I hope to get another full size (maybe queen size) quilt I made when I first came to Rockford and the quilt shop had a $5.oo quilt class. I call it my Cathy quilt cause I met my good quilt friend Cathy there.

Nice to know there are others out there with older projects than I have!

Odessa keep on quilting you can do it!! Let us know your progress!

89a677 09-03-2009 04:42 PM

Well, this is wonderful!! By my count there are now 28 of us joining in so far this year. Just think of all the quilts that will be done between now and December 31st. Puts a smile on my face for sure!

Lyn4ty 09-05-2009 07:12 PM

So are we going to post pictures here to show what we've accomplished?

Pats8e8 09-05-2009 10:27 PM

Okay, I think I really need this. I have a huge, bigger than queen size quilt that I decided I wanted to hand quilt for some reason. It is all Freddie's houses. I am going to have to go look and see what year it was started. There are 35 houses in it, the top is all put together and I believe I have 8 of the houses quilted. The blocks are from my class that I teach at our community college. I picked that particular block that year and asked if anyone would make me one, I ended up with the 35. The houses are so cute, some have window curtains, one is a barn, another one a church. Some have kittens in the windows, or dogs or birds. They ask me if it is done yet, but no, it's not. Maybe if I join you I can finally get it done. I need to sit in the evening and work on it. I looked at it and it is from 2000, so it is 9 yrs old now. Holy moly, I do indeed need to finish it up.

Jamie 09-06-2009 06:27 AM

I'd join in this, I have atleast 5 UFO's! I really want to get back to quilting, I haven't done much since my lil one ended up in the hospital. well except for the lap quilt I made her :) And I am running out of room for all the half done projects :)

dglvr 09-06-2009 08:09 AM

Yeap, I could use some push on getting some UFO's finished. I actually started back on some of my UFO's yesterday. Cooler weather helps.
I almost bought some MORE fabric the other day and was proud of myself for not buying and telling myself I have enough to get done and started at this point. After each UFO is finished then I can think about buying more fabric. So you can count me in on the UFO finish fun. :D

campion 09-06-2009 08:27 AM

Wow I don't feel so bad---I have 2 Quilts to finish quilting,I to sandwich and quilt,I have to put binding on to one---which is quilt as you go do quilting is done, so really I am not that bad---other UFO's are some cross stitch, jacket for this little fella in photo, and maybe some cardigans for him for winter.

Ps I went to a quilt show yesterday and bough Xmas material-----!!!!
