OK, behind his back I call my husband Mr. Dull, I say you could step into his closet with your eyes closed and pick any two items and they will match. He does not understand the fabric / quilting / color thing at all.

So today I went to my LQS to get some fabric for a class this Friday. I needed two complementary colors, six shade of each ranging from very light to very dark, should read as solid. Now you know you go in there and it seems like there must be 100 shades of yellow alone. I start of by saying I think I would like yellow and blue, we are unable to find six colors of yellow that really play together. So we move to blue and do find the blue eventually. By now I have invested a lot of time, but am ready for next color and one of the women gets out the color wheel, finds this beautiful brown and voila in no time we have six shades of this ranging from creamy yellow to dark brown. The whole mix is beautiful, I am actually hugging the staff in gratitude, I know my quilt will be the best in the whoel class. It took over an hour to do this.

I come home, have the fabrics laying out just so I can walk by and admire them. My husband comes home from work, I say 'aren't these gorgeous colors' and he agrees. I tell him about the project, and he says 'you mean you are going to use them together?' If it was up to him our whole house would be done in brown and beige.

STOP ASKING A MAN FOR AN OPINION ON QUILT FABRICS!!!! Unless he quilts. But generally they have no insight. I know my DH will look at me like I have lost my mind on anything to do with decorating until it is done. Then he loves it 9 times out of 10.

Did you ever play in the rain, jump in puddles? Let him rain all he wants.

My hubby? no imagination...unless he wants to make me the butt of a joke...yeah, boy...he can think of something then!
this is what he wears:
everyday....blue colored jeans, and button, cotton shirts.
dress, like church or restaurant: black jeans, and western shirt with snaps.
that's it! he has a pair of dress boots, and a pair of tennis shoes, and a plain pair of slip on leather shoes.

here's part of mine:
everyday: all colors imagineable, available to me...shorts, tank tops...hey, this is Florida...been near a 100 everyday, lately
t shirts, sundresses
dress up, for restaurants, or appointments:
dresses in many colors
every color of slacks that you can think of, in just about that many sizes, lol! (well, not reallly big ones, but big enough)
all colors of blouses
about two dozen pairs of shoes
sandals and flip flops...about 6-7 of these
all my clothes are sorted by color in closet...makes it easier to find, and looks like a rainbow...hubby's side of closet, is all dark :roll:

Sue, I kind of agree with KWhite. My husband doesn't "do" color combinations either, so I've stopped asking his opinion. But it's funny how he really likes what I do AFTER it's all put together and finished. Just do what you know you love. :D

And I know what you mean about the helpful people in the LQS. I have one like that and I sooo rely on their help and I feel giggly when the color/fabric pattern and everything comes together nicely. Good luck on your class and don't forget to show pictures!!!!!

Yeah, KW, you're right. But I still ask DH's opinion every time. And sometimes he actually adds something to the equation. He has learned that it's a good idea to not be negative. Apparently, he doesn't think I look my best when I'm flying around on my broom :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

If I ever show DH my fabric or quilt patterns he says That's nice Hon. He doesn't know if it is or not, he just says it to make me happy. I learned not to ask his opinion about anything quilt related. For one thing he really doesn't care about it and for another it's none of his business. :D

Absolutely don't ask a man's opinion unless he is artistic in some way himself and I don't mean able to make a shelf out of a piece of wood. The next time you're out and about notice what most men wear... like QNC said, it's monochromatic!

I love the blue and brown combination and I've been eyeing the Irristable Indigo 3 collection at Connecting Threads. I know I'm going to get it at some point but I want to make sure I get the right amounts so I'm simmering on ideas for it.

I am sure that your project will be GREAT!!! And show us, please. :)

My hubby is colourblind and I STILL forget and ask him his opinion, then stare blankly when he says "but they don't match". LMAO

My husband is color blind...
I just have to ask if the color he sees is gut wrenching...
I just do my own colors...and he likes what I put together...sometimes...because he sees different tones and colors.
I recall that I got a pedicure some time ago with beautiful bright pink polish...I asked what he thought and he said, "don't ask me, I see periwinkle blue...."
Blue toenails...NOT!!! So, I really don't ask anymore...
