Here is the pattern for a quilt kit I purchased last summer. I picked a different color combination than the one shown. And here is the quilt I actually made. Had to pick up a few fillers along the way. Not even close!

But oh, so beautiful! I like yours better than the one in the pattern!

Prism99 02-18-2011 11:34 AM

LOL! I like yours a whole lot better!

QuiltnCowgirl 02-18-2011 11:34 AM

LOL What happened? "Creative differences"?

Leota 02-18-2011 11:36 AM

Your's is prettier :D

wvhill22 02-18-2011 11:38 AM

LOL funny..sounds like something i would do. I have never bought a kit. im afraid i would screw it up and than not have enough fabric to finish it

np3 02-18-2011 11:38 AM

The sample in the store looked really good and the colors are colors I love to use. Bought it in South Dakota. Got it back to California, opened it and discovered that they hadn't provided enough fabric. So I decided to make it work, got very creative, liked the look of where I was going and here is what I ended up with. DH suggested I avoid kits in the future!

Wow...yeah...you definitely took artistic license with that pattern! It turned out so pretty though! Love the colors!!
:)

BellaBoo 02-18-2011 11:42 AM

Great way to use a kit! Quilt kits are nice when it has the colors you like and can be made into any pattern you like.

craftyone27 02-18-2011 11:46 AM

I like your quilt better - the other is a bitbusy for my taste. Not sure what else you could have done w/out enough fabrics for the original. Unless of course you didn't mind suffering through a shopping spree to add to the stash!

My thought too!! LOL!!!!

bj 02-18-2011 11:53 AM

Maybe not close to the pattern. But very pretty. Now you still have the pattern to try! I also like yours better! :-D

i agree with her

QuiltforPD 02-18-2011 12:21 PM

well I like the colors too and I like YOUR pattern better. I am always afraid that I will love the quilt in a kit so much and I won't have enough fabric and I can't find the fabric anymore to suppliment it. At least you took the situation and not only met it but exceeded it!!!!! You are a creative person for sure!

Well, I learned a valuable lesson. Before I buy a kit again I will open it before I leave the store to make sure what I have. And I doubt I will order one online for that reason. Thank goodness I have a mind that never sleeps!

Stitchnripper 02-18-2011 12:44 PM

I like your version better too.

Raggiemom 02-18-2011 12:46 PM

I have had that happen a few times as well. I hate that.

Your quilt is just beautiful.

debbieumphress 02-18-2011 07:18 PM

NP3 - I have bought many kits and always have extra. I am thinking find a store that is reliable and use them. I notice the LQS that make up their own, are often short from what I hear from friends. hope you don't give up on them. I like to find and match my own for patterns but kits are great for retreats and such. YOu don't have time to think when you are there. LOL. hint...hint ...I do love yours better.♥♥♥

I'm cutting my own before I come!!

tepewalsh 02-19-2011 02:50 AM

yours makes the package look horrible. great job!

liminanc 02-19-2011 03:04 AM

LOL, love the quilt, but I do the same thing. I don't know if I have ever followed a pattern, I just get "inspiration" from them. I have never bought a kit because usually the colors just aren't quite right for me.

Helenq 02-19-2011 03:34 AM

Too Funny! We quilter's do some hilarious stuff. And I also like your quilt over the kit.

justlooking 02-19-2011 04:09 AM

Good job! They both are beautiful!

Ditto,it is beautiful.

mcar 02-19-2011 04:23 AM

The quilt Kit photo shows a quilt that is quite show-offy ---Yes i can do flying geese, yes I can do stars, yes I can do coins...Rather a graduation piece. But yours too is quite special....9 patch on point with setting triangles. Good for you for turning what headed for disaster into a success.

janiesews 02-19-2011 05:30 AM

Very pretty-love the colors.
