Get carpet cutter replacement blades from Harbor Freight. They are a package of 2 blades for between $1.49-$1.99. WELL WORTH the price. They are item #97642 and you can get them online if you dont have a Harbor Freight near you. ALOT of quilters are using these now instead of buying them from Joann's or Walmart or LQS.

At least I have good company. I try to save every penny I can so I can spend it on fabric and not something boring like a blade.

I bought one of the sharpeners and I don't think it was worth my money. I have it in a drawer, if someone would like to have it to try it, its yours for the shipping!!!

I tend to be frugal in the extreme...but a new blade can make things much quicker and easier.

Did you know you can take them out and turn them over? I do that with mine and they cut like new on the other angle...I try to keep using mine too as long as I can..I bought 5 of the 5 packs of them off eBay and now I can't find them!! I got a great deal on them, paid $25 and the guy shipped them free!! They were fiscars too not an off brand. I wish he would have had more packages, I would have gotten more of them. I think my quilt gremlins are up to no good again!! They love to hide stuff from me constantly..

Yes, or at least they do when you have your son do it. lol I tried using the sharpener I got from Hancock Fabrics and apparently my arthritic hands just don't press hard enough to sharpen the blade. Hancock's had them soooo cheap I couldn't resist. I did have to purchase the Dual Rotary Blade Sharpener at regular price, but I had a coupon to make it 40% cheaper, and the replacement sharperner disks were back in the clearance bins for only 50 cents each (I got the last 4 they had, lol) I'm very pleased with the result - I haven't bought blades in a very long while, and only had to sharpen them a couple of times. I use them pretty frequently, too. Good product, just don't give up if they don't sharpen well enough at first - try again (maybe with a different pair of hands).

I bought the Grace sharpener and use it before I start cutting. It really keeps my blade sharp. Remember to sharpen a sharp blade and it will last a very long time.

I do the same thing. Need to check out Harbor Frieght - there is one just a few miles from me.
