That is exactly what happens to me and sometimes I'm even worse than that: If I REALLY love a fabric and I know the line is discontinued, I buy twice as much as i think I will need in case I decide to make it into two quilts. I did this for quilts i intend to make for grandchildren i do not even have yet.

I do that all the time. I think that there won't be as pretty a fabric or as neat a pattern, and then....

Cut it, use it, love it and when you see the quilt later you will remember where you bought it. We had a speaker who said If you pick the fabric up and feel it, you have used it.

I have been sewing up my stash for the past four years and made queen sized quilts that are a joy and being used. Sometimes I have to by backings because I'm tired of piecing them.

Do it all the time! I have some fabric that I fell in love with and bought every yard of it I could find. I fussy cut one piece and made a quilted greeting card for a lady that my husband worked for when he was a teen. She passed away four days after her birthday and I am so happy that she got to see her birthday card made from my super beautiful fabric. I like what tealady suggested, a whole cloth quilt could be the answer. Until then I just look at it each time I go into my sewing room and it makes me happy. We are all slightly bonkers aren't we?

I've got a piece of green (and green is not my favorite color) that is so beautiful I just cannot put down on the mat to cut. I'm glad someone else has that problem. froggyintexas

Guilty! I take it out unfold it and just can't bring myself to cut it. I will tell you though with the price of fabric on the rise like it is I will be cutting it. I think alot of stashes will be downsized this coming year.

I agree some fabric is just too cute to cut till just the right project comes along, but it will happen.

I decided a while ago that it's a sorry waste to let fabrics, no matter how beautiful to just sit in a dark closet. If I really love it, I by enough yardage for the background, and a bit extra for little scraps. As soon as I have a pattern, I pull it out. I find I enjoy those favorite fabrics much more when I see them in a quilt!
