That's right! Cutting out clothing patterns results in many odd edges. I do not trim mine straight so I won't lose any fabric that might be usable.

My thinking on this also Dingle. I do a lot of sewing beside quilting, so often the ends are jagged. I simply fold it so the odd end is inside, nice and neat for the shelf. I do cut off the tangly bits tho', into the scrap jar.

I cut mine as the pattern calls for and then I cut what I need past that since I never know what will come up next with a pattern.

If my fabric looks like that, I put that part into the inside folds and then it looks straight in my stash.

I cut fabric like that this morning at a class where we were doing pieced quilting. It was just easier to sit at my spot and cut the little squares I needed to cover the spot than get up and square the cuts.

It doesn't bother me.

Well, if you have unlimited budget not cutting pieces tightly in every inch of space may be what people do . However- having been taught by a serious scrimper and make something out of nothing Mom I learned those little odd shapes often are the right size for a piece I would have to buy extra yardage to get cut.

I also do that when I need a little piece for PP

I cut mine like that if I only need a small piece. Keeps the uncut part longer in case I need it like that.
