*** Exactly! After I looked at it and figured out price per actual yard, versus what my LQS serves up, I am better off staying close to home. I couldn't figure out ... why would anyone only buy 1/2 yard? <wave>

My late mother used to buy 100% cotton sheets on sale (coordinated, of course) and then do whole-cloth quilts from them. Many of them are still in use, and on some the hand-quilting is coming undone; therefore I am practicing the art of hand-quilting those parts. It's taking me a bit of time, but I'm liking it, and not having too hard a time getting the needle through the fabric...must be a lower thread count.

Billy, My experience has been that the sheeting is a bit dense for hand quilting and/or inserting pearl cotton or embroidery floss for ties. However, they really make great backs. It's kind of a trade-off.

I made the mistake of using a sheet for backing when I first started quilting. If you are going to machine quilt, it's probably ok. However, if you are hand quilting, avoid sheets for backing - they are woven too tightly to easily rock your needle in and out and obtain nice stitches.
