Will you be gifting quilted gifts this year?

If you are giving quilted gifts this year, what are giving? Pictures please if you have them.

YES!!!
for my cousins, I made embroidered towel sets. for their daughter, I did a tree skirt and matching pillow. for their son, I made masculine (denim and a sexy lady) potholders. I don't know him well, met him once at my aunts funeral 1 1/2 yr ago. but I can't send others gifts, and not him. made ornaments for others. I decided to make my cousins pillows for the upcoming holidays,(new yrs, mardi gras, valentines ect.) For Christmas next yr, I guess a really nice pillow, not sure yet. Getting a jump on next Christmas now when the fabs are on sale.

I am doing my little I Spy for a drag along quilt this Christmas. I still think I can get it done even with having to rip out a row of quilting.

QltrSue 12-09-2013 01:57 PM

Welllll, I WANTED to make my daughter a set of placemats, runner and napkins and my DDIL a cozy lap quilt, BUT not healing from foot surgery as fast as I expected and being away for a time in the fall has kinda messed up my plans. I have all the ingredients, but the time is slipping away. Maybe I'll wrap the fabrics with an IOU (which I hate to do) will be enough. Maybe next year I'll get it right!

Yes! In November, I made 17 quilted tote bags for gifts. I used Jenny Doan's pattern that uses charm squares. I used Soft and Firm for interfacing and am very pleased with how the bags turned out. I am giving several quilts. Today, I am working on FMQ a quilt for my daughter. I should have it finished by the weekend. I made a Tennessee Vols quilt for my son-in-law that is at the LAQ. I hope I get it back before Christmas. Fortunately, my other quilts are ready to be wrapped.

DonnaPBradshaw 12-09-2013 03:02 PM

I finished a golf quilt for my husband and he loves it! I used minky for the back and it's very warm to boot, with the weather here in Utah at 19 degrees cold it's the perfect quilt!

AngeliaNR 12-09-2013 03:06 PM

Flannel quilts for my mom and my daughter. (Flannel nightgown for my granddaughter, but it isn't quilted.)

Neesie 12-09-2013 03:08 PM

I will be, if I can ever manage to get them finished.

This is the front of the Blackhawks quilt made for my DD and SIL, using a 2013 Stanley Cup Championship T-shirt. Pattern is "Fifty Shades of Great" by Mary Howell of Top Shelf Quilts. This is a great pattern for any sports fan.
I used the back of the shirt listing all the players and some extra blocks for backing.

The other is for my 3 1/2yo great (grand?) niece, using a book panel from "The Elf on the Shelf". Here it's on the design wall. It is now layered and quilted. I still have to square up and bind it.
Sorry it's sideways.

coopah 12-09-2013 03:51 PM

My mom already has her Christmas placemats that I made. One side has pictures of the Nativity and Wisemen and so on for December and the other side has snowflakes for January or to use if she doesn't like eating on the Nativity! No picture, sorry!

gramajo 12-09-2013 03:57 PM

Oops--I don't know how I managed to put the 4th picture up. That was taken while it was still on the design wall.

Sewnoma 12-09-2013 03:57 PM

Last year I managed to make 18 quilts in about 6 months - this year I am NOT making quilts for Christmas!!!

I am hand-making some artificial flowers for my grandmother-in-law (inspired by something I saw in Quilted Arts magazine) - each petal is sort of like a miniature quilt! I made a tree skirt for myself (finally), and next week (while I'm off work) I'm going to make a pair of wall hangings - one with 3 kimonos on it for my MIL, and then for my husband I'm going to TRY to make an art quilt featuring a seahorse. We'll see how that one turns out though as it will be a lot of paint and such that I haven't done before. (I bought myself some Shiva paintsticks as an early xmas gift and can't wait to try them out!)

Then if I have time I might sew up some throw pillows, but I just do a flap back on those so those go quick and easy.

I just finished a quilt for my sister in law - she needs some cheering up, hope this will do it

maminstl 12-09-2013 04:02 PM

don't know how I managed to get two of them on there!

quiltingeileen 12-09-2013 04:05 PM

I made 2 quilts. One for my mother-in-law and one for my son-in-law. Also am making 3 tote bags for friends.

gramajo 12-09-2013 04:08 PM

That's OK, maminstl. It's bright and cheerful enough to look at twice.

jcrow 12-09-2013 04:46 PM

I'm giving my MIL and niece each a twin size quilt for Christmas. They are still at the LAQ. I told her I needed them as Christmas gifts a few days ago and hope she gets them done in time for them to be bound. Last year I gave two of my nieces each a quilt and my MIL asked where her's was, so I made her a bright and cheerful one. My oldest niece looked hurt that I didn't make her one, so I made her one this year. I hope it makes her happy. I felt guilty I forgot about her last year. Bad me.

Jackie Spencer 12-09-2013 07:17 PM

Yes, I don't have pictures tho. I made my Son In Law a full size quilt. (Sampler) my middle daughter a queen size quilt and pillow cases (Whole Cloth) and my oldest daughter a Queen size quilt, with matching pillow shams and cases. Just have to put the binding on hers and I am done!

SlightlyOffQuilter 12-09-2013 10:18 PM

All gifts given this year are home made. None are quilts ! After doing 7 quilts last year and feeling like a lunatic I made the decision that quilts are now for birthdays only, since they are more spread out ! Aprons, Totes, Crayon Rolls ( for the kids ) , stockings and tree skirts are what I did this year !

Yooper32 12-10-2013 03:40 AM

I made "Kiss the Cook" black aprons with red polka dot ruffles on the top and at the bottom hem, also made fabric boxes for the guys and filled with candy. Have pics but no program on laptop to upload yet, old computer is not an option anymore. Waaaaaaah!

NJ Quilter 12-10-2013 03:48 AM

Made fabric boxes with purchased jar candles for the wine & whine girls which they will get this evening. Might make one more with something else inside for friend's son's girlfriend. That's about the extent of my crafty projects for Christmas this year.

#1piecemaker 12-10-2013 07:41 AM

You have all knocked yourselves out making all these goodies. I'm getting a late start on it. But, I am planning some lapquilts and mug rugs for this next week's projects. I want to give lapquilts to all of the ladies in my church. We are so few in number that I want to do something special for them.

Of course - now if I can only finish the bindings for all of them......:o It has taken me ALL YEAR to get these done though two of them are big (CA King and Full size).

azwendyg 12-10-2013 05:08 PM

You're gifting some gorgeous quilts there, racerh! I adore the cubes, and the labyrinth walk (I think that's what it's called) is on my to-do list.

Wow!! I love this quilt! I wish I was on your gift list. Beautiful!

nancyw 12-11-2013 04:38 AM

I made a quilt each for my two GDs. They are lap quilts to keep them warm and snug while they watch TV or read.

cactusmomma 12-11-2013 04:50 AM

I made lap quilts for my Aunt and my 95 yr old mother. I do not have pictures yet.

cpcarolyn 12-11-2013 06:58 AM

I am gifting two quilts for neighbors twin girls also two doll quilts for their dolls. Some kitchen towels for my step sons and their wives. I am pleased to finally have the quilts done, I have been working on them for three years.

pahega 12-11-2013 07:05 AM

That is a gorgeous quilt. You are very talented. Wish I was at that level. Maybe soon…..

Nammie to 7 12-11-2013 07:13 AM

You all are way too ambitious for me!! I haven't made any handmade gifts this year. Well I have made American Girl doll clothes for my granddaughters. I've been working on UFO's all year and none of them are appropriate for Christmas gifts. A couple of years ago I did make quilts or throws for everyone and I'm still recovering from that!! All of your quilts are absolutely gorgeous!

Wavewatcher 12-11-2013 07:27 AM

Azwendyg. Awesome! The front and back are equally stunning.

Yes, I am making bed runners for the dear friends and family. I made 7 of these (actually started out as an OSU quilt and the DH decided he wanted more of grey/white than all scarlet...sigh). I used the new OSU fabric and my own design. They can use them to snuggle up in the recliner, a table cloth for their Orange Bowl Celebrations, or really a bed runner. Here are is the picture of 4 of them.

My daughter in law loves everything Christmas, and having bits of Christmassy fabrics from last year, I made her a quilt. I'm just in the practice stage of quilting, so I had it longarm quilted.

Maminstl- I love your quilt you made for your SIL. It is beautiful. What is the name of the pattern? I love the look of it: cheerful and clean. Well done!

MargeD 12-11-2013 09:35 AM

I am giving our DGD a quilt for her bed, if I can get it quilted in time. I got the top made before shoulder surgery in May, so my ability to quilt has been sorely tested; and I'm just now really getting back to quilting. I also plan on giving quilted wall quilts to my DS, DDIL and DDIL's parents, as well as a couple dear friends. I also have an order for 6 placemats from DDIL's mother, and I'm hoping to finish a lavender "Princess" dress for DGD for Christmas. Great plans, but I'm running out of time, although I do work a little better under pressure. Fingers crossed, I will finish them. Next year I'm starting earlier and hopefully will not have surgery in my future for next year, 2 years in a row is enough, I'm due a break.

GrmaHayes 12-11-2013 09:36 AM

I have shipped two quilts. I have three more quilted, two ready to go on the long arm and one I just cut out. Looks like I should be sewing instead of on the computer, hum.... I would post pictures but my kids haven't shown me how to do that yet, or my three year old granddaughter, they know more than I do about computers. lol

maminstl 12-11-2013 10:29 AM
