I'll get cracking on finding all of my wips & ufos and I'll post a 'before' picture along with my count, and my priority list. Let's all post our lists & count by January 1st, and a 'before' picture would be great as well.

How does the last day (or last Friday night) of every month sound for an 'all night PJ party?' Or you can pick a better night, just let me know. we'll quilt away the night in comfort!

Blessings to all,
MaryAnna

Welcome onboard jaciqltznok! Just pick your battles....line them up and count what you can. just as long as you've got at least 1 to start on in January. As you get going, keep digging until you find all the rest.

SUGGESTION: The last time I organized my sewing area, I removed anything NOT sewing related (and gained a bit of space). Then I put all my WIP, UFO, and collections together on one shelving unit. This unit is BEFORE my new fabrics and magazines and books. I HAVE to see them before I start something new.

I'M IN - will post list later this week

Welcome quiltinghere! And what an excellent idea....organizing a shelf and putting our wips & ufos right in our plain sight, for some that might just be the ticket to success! And others might still need the organization and 'lining' them all up in order in a closet, and as they finish one project, then grab the next in order. But I love your suggestion! In either even, organiztion is key...knowing what you have and lining up your priorities.
Blessings,
MaryAnna

jaciqltznok 12-28-2010 08:29 PM

oh, I have them counted..38 queen quilts already started, 18 swap block sets ready to be put into something, 14 table runners, 22 candle mats, 18 wall hangings(in assorted sizes), 4 tote bags, 23 aprons, 8 pillow cases, 6 quilter's necessaries, 8 pin cushions, and I am still digging them out!

kima 12-28-2010 09:07 PM

I'm in. Want this year to be more productive have ufo's to count. Thanks for getting us motivated.

Sadiemae 12-28-2010 09:24 PM

I can't find mine to count yet. I am starting to go through my house one room at a time, and get rid of anything I haven't used in a year or two. One person just doesn't need all of this stuff, and I know I will be a happier person when it is finished. In the process I will find everything and get it organized.

I do know what I am starting with.

1. Super Fast Pink Jelly Roll quilt for my Great Niece.

2. Baby quilt, Single Irish Chain, Focal fabric that has Monkeys.

sueisallaboutquilts 12-28-2010 09:24 PM

Maryanna, I HAVE TO say yes!!! It's getting ridiculous at my house. So yes, I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

michelehuston 12-29-2010 02:06 PM

I went through my sewing room (is messier now than before!!) and this is what I found for my ufo's:

2. english wedding cut out and partially put together queen
3. red irish chain queen
4. red wallhanging
5.baby quilt to be quilted (new granddaughter 6 weeks old tomorrow)
6. blue dbl wedding ring queen
7. green log cabin king
8. handpieced flower garden king
9. hand pieced lemoyne star twin
10. burgoyne surrounded twin
11. dresden plate queen
12 expiermental log cabin (dont no what else to call it) full
13. ggrandmothers top quilt
14 more ggrandmothers blocks to put together
15. my grandmother embroidered quilt blocks before her cision got too bad, have 4 2 quilt and 4 to put together (do they count?)
Thats what I have found so far...think I will stop looking!! lol

jaciqltznok 12-29-2010 02:38 PM

I can see I will be in GOOD company as I tackle my UFO list this year!

michelehuston 12-29-2010 04:37 PM

I honestly have no idea where to start. baby quilt and quillows as they will b the easiest and fastest to do. After seeing some of the postings, I do not feel so bad about my huge list! I have every intention of sticking to this..just have to stay out of lqs!!

Wow! You're productive! Start sorting and lining them up, first ones should be the ones that are closest to being done.

Sadiemae, that sounds wonderful! And what a great idea to go ahead and declutter your whole house! I've been doing that as well, and wow what a difference it makes. You'll be better and more energized once that's done, and your home will look bigger! Your projects are perfect to start off with, and yes you'll find more as you clear out 'stuff'.
Blessings,
MaryAnna

Yes, michelehuston...you've got a list! Before there's order, there's always a bigger mess, but it will get better. I'd tackle those quillows and baby quilt first, then the rest. If you want to stop at 15, that's fine. You can look for more once these are done, if that suits you.

Updated list

Fabric Diet - I like that term. I am off today and as soon as the house warms up (it's nippy in CA today) and I can pull myself away from the QB I WILL start on some UFOs. The pile is still impressive and I have two Robins looming.

On the other hand - my new favorite LQS is going out og business and they are at 50% on everything.....heavy sigh.

MaryAnna 12-30-2010 09:29 AM

Hey Wip & UFO gang,

Another member of the board also recommended a yahoo group called stashbusters, they've got a Wip/Whim/Pigs and a separate UFO challenge categories. They 'charge' a fee of 2 FQ's & 50 cents (for mail) for the UFO group and I think 7, 2.5" strips of fabric & mail costs for the Wip group. At the end of the year a 'winner' will receive the FQ's in UFO group & all the 2.5" strips from the Wips group.....sort of an incentive to finish. They too offer support, creative challenges, etc.

If you'd like to join that group as well as this one, that would be great.

In any case, on this thread we'll have creative 'challenges' along the way to finish up our projects.

Hugs to all!
MaryAnna

Hey MadQuilter! Join in our fun....yes, I know a 'fabric diet' sounds harsh, but it's not, sometimes we do have to get control of things in our lives. If you have opportunity to find fabric at great prices, then it's a good time to review your projects and if you need fabric to complete them, well purchase the fabric you need. And that's the trick, purchasing what you need as opposed to buying just to be buying.
I know of several of my wips & whims that I will have to buy some more fabric to complete as I don't always buy my backing or binding fabric when I buy my project fabric. But I'll try shopping my stash first.

Blessings,
MaryAnna

Updated list

Updated again

MaryAnna 12-31-2010 06:31 AM

Ok WIP & UFO gang..... it's the 31st! By today you should have found your projects, or at least a few to get started on tomorrow. The 1st is our start date and if you're over booked on that day, try to do 15 mins to a half hour of sewing/quilting on a project sometime on the 1st.

I work 2 jobs, so I need to work in some time everyday in order to get things done. We'll have some 'quilt retreat' weekends and/or PJ parties (all night sewing sessions) planned. So that should help out. Let us all know if you've got a special night to devote to projects and have your own PJ party....we might be able to join in!

Let's check in with each other weekly at least to see how we're doing, and don't forget to post pictures!

We can do this! Even me with 33 projects.

Blessings,
MaryAnna

omak 12-31-2010 12:58 PM

I can't make a list, but I have a general idea of where they all are ... fortunately, for the most part, I keep unfinished things close to me. The PJ parties ought to be interesting. I will be watching to see whether I can participate or not, but I know I am a good cheerleader <g> <wave>

Let's check in with each other weekly at least to see how we're doing, and don't forget to post pictures!

We can do this! Even me with 33 projects.

Blessings,
MaryAnna

I am not wating until tomorrow to start!! I feel like that baby quilt is clogging up the whole works!! It's the third one in a row and I'm kind of tired of them but it needs done first. I'm hoping I can have it done and out of here by the end of the week.

I would like to join in also. I don't have a list put together yet. Last year I did this and used a grease board to write my UFO's down. It was so much fun to wipe another UFO off the board. I plan on doing this again this year and I plan to add the one block a month I signed up for to the list. I'm inspired by you all

Welcome onboard pdtink! You've inspired me! I love your idea with the grease board! I'm going to do the same thing! Great idea!

How does the last day (or last Friday night) of every month sound for an 'all night PJ party?' Or you can pick a better night, just let me know. we'll quilt away the night in comfort!

Blessings to all,

Some inspiration for all of us! I injured my back yesterday afternoon while undecking the halls...fa la la..... so I was really bad off today and called in sick. So, with heating pad on my back in the sewing chair.....I finished the 1st UFO on my list! I finished my DS's Penn Dutch Quilt (his Christmas present), I cut the binding (not easy with back problems), sewed the binding, etc. and did a label on the back.
The top quilting was done by Carol the LA, she did a great job, but got it done the Monday before Christmas.
I can scratch 1 off of my 'list'....now for the other 32!

Happy New Year and Many Blessings to all,
MaryAnna
