MaryAnna 12-27-2010 07:09 PM

My ufo & wip piles are out of control and I've lost count of how many I've got going on.

For 2011 I'm on a 'fabric diet' until I complete these projects. Purchasing fabric only for completion of the ufo's & wips, if needed.

During the next week I'll take a count and line them up to finish them off.

I got to thinking that maybe I'm not alone.......so who else would like to join me? We'd all be more successful at it if we have a sense of accountability where we post what we've done every week.

I think we finish off the ones that are closest to completion, then tackle the rest.

We can start on January 1st and I think it would be a fun project. We might actually get a few quilts done!

Let me know who's in, we'll start this week by finding our wips & ufo's and count them all.

Blessings to all,
MaryAnna

S D G 12-27-2010 07:14 PM

I only have 1 ufo and 1 quilt that I started yesterday, But I'm game if others are.

Sadiemae 12-27-2010 07:17 PM

I am in! I can't afford to purchase any fabric, so this is my goal for the new year!

Cyn 12-27-2010 07:17 PM

I'm game but I am not sure I can even find all mine :)

irishrose 12-27-2010 07:17 PM

Only one UFO here. I would have sandwiched it before I started cutting my next one, but I had a bad car accident today. Sandwiching a quilt is not in the books until my rib area is better.

Oh no! I hope you'll be feeling better soon, at least you're still with us, and that's the important part. Do see your doctor, if you haven't done so yet! And call your lawyer as well.
Join in even if all you have is 1, we won't be starting anything until the 1st of the year.
Blessings & prayers sent your way,
MaryAnna

Quilting was birthed from creativity, so we'll create like our mothers or grandmothers did.
Glad to have ya onboard, bookmark this post and we'll run off of this, posting each week.

Hey sonisew, I know how you feel! It can be daunting, but if we know what we've got to do, and line it up- sort of 'assembly line' tactics, then we'll be able to finish them. With a group of us working on our projects and posting as we are working...we should knock them out quickly.
Great to have you onboard!

I'm in also. Have way to many quilt tops waiting for borders! Just amazing. I have such a hard time not purchasing new fabs....just love em! I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I just joined the mysi's mystery quilt and will have to complete the fab selection then it's shop at home! (til next time I get too close to fabric shops...but I live in the country so can work on those UFO's for quite some time.) Thanks for starting this and for the encouragement! The quilt top on my avatar is also one waiting for the border!!!

Patti Sue

Welcome onboard Patti Sue! Yes, that's the problem with wips & ufo's, they tend to be in different stages! Find what you can now to start on, and I'm sure you'll find all the rest as you go along! together we can get this done.
Blessings,
MaryAnna

Welcome onboard Chigger Holler Quilter! We're all in this together, I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. We've got quilts that need to get finished and by golly, they'll be finished in 2011! Some may have more ufo's & wips than others, but we'll knock 'em all out. You won't be 'borderless' in 2011!
Blessings,
MaryAnna

Kyiav10 12-27-2010 11:03 PM

I am planning on not buying too much fabric this year. I would like to only work on my ongoing projects.

I have a few tops, some already sandwhiched, to be quilted. I also have some piecing projects.

I want to focus on some projects this year and not purchase.

Here is my list.

1. Star Struck (currently quilting)
2. 4th of July (top)
3. OBW (sandwhiched ready to quilt)
4. Log Cabin (top)
5. Blue block quilt (sandwhiched ready to quilt)
6. Floral Quilt (blocks)
7. Bargello (partly pieced)
8. Pin Wheel (HST's done)
9. Fall blocks (from swap)
10. Butterfly blocks (leftover from other quilt)
11. Warm Wishes (piecing project)
12. OBW 2 (piecing project)
13. Diagonal Strip quilt (only have fabric bought)
14. String Quilt (piecing project)
15. Breast Cancer blocks (from swap)

Numbers 1, 14, 13, 3 are my plans for this year. My sister also requested a baby quilt that I think I will use number 6 for.

Kyia

Scissor Queen 12-27-2010 11:06 PM

I don't know about the not buying fabric part but I have at least 7 WIP and several UFOs that I plan on working on next.

You want the list?

WIP
1 baby quilt
2 Orion star
3 square in a square #1
4 square in a square #2
5 butterfly garden BOM original
6 butterfly garden BOM #2
7 all borders

There are also several quilts that are ready to layer and quilt. That list is longer. I'll be happy just to work on the WIP.

manyana 12-27-2010 11:56 PM

Can I join in also -
1. Baby's quilt (cut out)
2. Hexagon quilt (handpiecing)
3. Quilt for our bed (hand piecing - top half finished)
4. Quilt for grea niece (top finished)

I'm sure I could find some more if I looked hard enough!!
Colleen

Miss Purple Shoes 12-28-2010 02:36 AM

Please count me in. Off the top of my head I have:
1. Hearts and home to quilt by hand
2. Christmas QAYG
3. Table topper for Judy
4. Hot Diggedy Dawg Buggy Barn
5. Quillow for Amy - waiting to find cross stitch ballerina to go on pillow!
6. Quillow for dad to be quilted
7. Christmas tree skirt applique and quilt
8. Hong Kong memory quilt

Those are the ones off the top of my head. I haven't been to search yet.
Anyone seen my ballerina cross stitch?

JulieM 12-28-2010 04:22 AM

I am in, one to quilt that has been basted. And some other stuff.

michelehuston 12-28-2010 05:12 AM

I'm in!! I am not sure how many I have in progress, so my first challeng will be to make a list, and then get busy by January 1.

ckcowl 12-28-2010 05:24 AM

i am very much up to this challenge!
when i finished quilting the last required holiday quilt i started cleaning the quilting room...machine is going in for service and in the mean time we are going to paint the room and do some rearranging...but i digress...
while moving things out of the room i found 2 or 3 projects i had forgotten about...i have a christmas quilt i started working on the summer of 2009 with hopes of it being a gift for christmas...did not get it together...pulled it out a couple months ago...would really like it done this year...well...other than being hung where i see it everytime i walk by, it is no closer than it was in 2009...i would really like to get it done...i have another christmas quilt i started in 2004......i have so many!!!
do we have to (claim- admit to) all of them?
part of my problem is i get overwhelmed thinking about how many of them there are...i know one at a time...so, i will spend the rest of the week (trying) to get them *organized* and a count...
no shopping-no starting ANYTHING NEW until the old is done and gone!!!

Patty Patches 12-28-2010 05:30 AM

I;m in

Tolelady53 12-28-2010 05:47 AM

I'm in. Due to surgery and chemo last year (I'm doing great!...thanks for asking  ), I am behind on customer's orders and my own "stuff." This morning I actually started making a list of customer's stuff that they didn't need for Christmas and began to prioritize it.

WooHoo...Yesterday I started working on my shop. I am so tired of not being able to find stuff...or it's just stacked around. I am organizing fabric in the fashion of AlaskaSue, and as I go through I am sorting in to size increments and colors. I am finding a whole bunch of smaller pieces of fabric I forgot I had because they were mixed in with bigger pieces.

Also, one of the first things is get my machine serviced. It still runs fine, but the "scissors" no longer work and that is annoying.

While, organizing some fabric I came across a shelf of some really nice books I forgot I had. I decided to go through the books and pick out 4 "learning process" quilts and actually read the pattern and make the quilt accordingly. I decided, "why buy these books if I'm not going to really use them?"

Well, that seems to be a start!

Why don't we meet back here at the end of January for an update!!

sewwhat85 12-28-2010 02:10 PM

too many to count here

Another impressive list! Welcome Scissor Queen! Make sure you take pictures of the progress! If you need fabric that's ok. Most of us have waaaay too much and need a 'fabric diet' of sorts!

Getting things DONE is my goal for 2011 (also no buying...at least for a few months) :(

SUGGESTION: The last time I organized my sewing area, I removed anything NOT sewing related (and gained a bit of space). Then I put all my WIP, UFO, and collections together on one shelving unit. This unit is BEFORE my new fabrics and magazines and books. I HAVE to see them before I start something new.

I'M IN - will post list later this week

MaryAnna 12-28-2010 07:46 PM

Welcome JulieM! Sounds like you are off to a good start, and I'm sure you'll find more projects.

Welcome michelehuston, we've got the rest of the week to count & figure out which one's first. I say tackle the one nearest to completion- for that instant gratification.

Blessings,
MaryAnna
