I got a call yesterday that I had won the December blocks at the Grangeville Fabric store. So we drove out there and I got 26 blocks and some companion fabric to put them together. Was a great day.

Years ago I entered a block lotto at my LQS and I made two so I would have a better chance of winning. Since we were only allowed one per person I put my mom's name and phone number on one. At the end of the month my mom called me all excited and said SHE won the blocks and could I put them together for her into a quilt. LOL. Of course I put it together and quilted it for her. When I visit her and see the quilt I still smile and remember her winning.

Seven years ago I won the blocks at my guild's block of the month raffle. I made a quilt with it using a cotton blanket for the back. I use that quilt every day. All the blocks were made by people I respect a lot for their skills. Some were not perfect, but were all made with a lot of love. Today the quilt looks used and loved and only one block is falling apart, but is the quilt I have loved the most.

Enjoy your blocks and show us what you make with it.

I used to live close to Grangeville. We lived in Kamiah. Have some close friends in Kamiah.

15-20 years ago my mom and I both made blocks for a local guild monthly block drawing. I won the blocks. But there were only 3 total. The third one was not well done, in thin poly blend fabric. The colors of that one *sort of* go with my mom's block, and mine goes not at all with theirs. So I still have the 3 blocks in my UFOs. Sounds like your 26 blocks will get joined and quilted before mine, congrats. But I recently won a $200 Babylock Quilt Kit, so pretty lucky.

Lucky person. Send a photo when you get it together. A hint, if the blocks are not the same size (as sometimes happens when more than one person does blocks) try adding a border around each I usually add about 2 1/2" then square them all to the exact same size. Does this sound like I have once won blocks and almost all were different size. Did this and it worked out OK.

eimay 01-08-2011 05:51 AM

Wow...enough for a quilt and more. I think it would be fun to work with something unexpected and wasn't planned. Time for those creative juices to flow.

eimay 01-08-2011 05:51 AM

Usually 15 yards to a bolt.

Fabricesta -
What pattern did you use for that pretty red and white quilted item in your pic?
Looks lovely.
