I use hair clips to hold bindings when I hand sew them on. I use about six and am so happy when I have removed them to the last few stitches. Then I know I'm done.

deedum 04-01-2014 03:51 AM

I can take or leave them. My friend bought them for me for a gift a few years ago. Before them I was using binding clips. They seemed to work as well.

mengler 04-01-2014 04:00 AM

I bought a small pack of each. Haven't used them yet. I glue a lot. I figured I'd get the smallest pack of each (on sale of course:) and try them some time.

kyquiltlover1942 04-01-2014 04:07 AM

I love them. No more waiting for the bleeding to stop from sticking with pins. (I am on blood thinners, so it takes a while.) I also used them for heming some pants for my hisband and myself.

Judi in Ohio 04-01-2014 04:16 AM

I love these clips. I have 50 of the small and a pack of the larger green ones. I use them to clip my finished blocks together so I don't have to keep counting. hst, 4 patch's, 9 patches, put them in sets of 10 or 25, whatever and they are accounted for - love that. The clover clips have a lip on them that the others don't - easier to use for bindings and such.

Grannyh67 04-01-2014 04:30 AM

I love mine, I use them for lots of things. I hate using pins. I have to stick myself enough to check my sugar without getting stuck while sewing, lol.....get them with coupon at Hancocks...I have the little Red ones and the green ones, I use red ones the most

lclang 04-01-2014 04:30 AM

Cheap little hairclips from the dollar store work quite well and are lots less expensive.

pmonaghen 04-01-2014 04:46 AM

I went to Walmart...bought a box of small binder clips...(I think there were 42 in the box...about $4)...they work great...I was given a package of the Wonder Clips...but prefer my binder clips...

Quiltngolfer 04-01-2014 05:00 AM

I bought a pack of ten. That is all I need to do the binding. I just put 6 or 8 on at a time and move them as I need to.

Sewnoma 04-01-2014 05:36 AM

I love those little red clips! I bleed a lot less making quilts now that I use those instead of pins, lol!

I use them for binding, and also for assembling quilt tops - I usually put quilts together in rows and then when it's time to join those long rows I use the red clips along the whole length to make sure all my seams stay lined up.

I use them to clip notes to my quilt rows and blocks as I'm working on them so I don't mix up my pattern as I move between the design wall and the sewing machine. ("Row 1/block 7; Row 2/block 3...") As I pull the fabric down from my design wall I also put a clip on each pair of blocks on the side where the seam needs to go.

I use them to hold patterns or instructions up; I have a small wire shelf-thing near my machine and I can clip whole magazines up to it, open to something I'm using as inspiration or pattern instructions I'm trying to follow, or just a drawing of my own I'm following or a list of pieces I need to make...whatever is needed.

The big green ones are handy too - I use those to hold cut fabrics together in groups. If I have a block that takes 6 pieces of fabric, I will make "kits" for each block and green-clip them together.

They're also good for holding annoying floppy sleeves back, lol.

I'm thinking of buying some, too. I can't quite picture how you would use them for matching seams and leave them in place while sewing. I sew over the pins that I currently use, very carefully, but can't figure out how I would sew over the clips.

I bought a box of 50. I make a lot of purses and I use them when sewing the straps. Boy they sure do the job. I hate getting stuck with pins and these don't hurt at all. Your need depends on your projects or your need for them. I am thinking of geting a box of the larger ones.

Stashelf 04-01-2014 06:09 AM

I use them for my binding. I use about 10 at a time, they sure beat getting stuck with pins

Wintersewer 04-01-2014 06:13 AM

How different we all are....hahahaha!! I love them! I have 70 and use them every time I put a binding on. I secure the whole side. Be sure to check around for price. I got a great deal on Amazon on the pack of 50.

nativetexan 04-01-2014 06:28 AM

Oh NO, you can't sew over the wonder clips. goodness. They are more for binding and such. Precise pinning on seams needs thin straight pins only.

sulyle 04-01-2014 06:31 AM

I love Wonder Clips but I got mine from Amazon. Significantly less expensive than my LQS. No more sticking myself or getting my thread tangled with pins.

danlynmartin 04-01-2014 06:46 AM

I use them often instead of pins when sewing pieces together. Mostly they work anywhere you can pin but hold much more firmly.

mustangquilts 04-01-2014 06:59 AM

I won mine on an ebay auction. 100 for 5.00 + shipping. I ended up with three sets. I love to use them on my bindings. I will clip the whole binding, let it set for a day and when I hand stitch the binding the next day the binding lays just perfect when I stitch. Makes the hand stitching go a whole lot faster for me anyways. Seems to give the fabric a memory to lay over and makes the fold easier to make.

DJ 04-01-2014 07:00 AM

I'm doing a project right now and wish I had them. Think I'll check at Joanns soon and use a coupon!

QuiltNama 04-01-2014 07:18 AM

Love mine, bought a box of 50 and shared with my mom and friends. My mom then ordered 2 boxes and gave them to her fri. sew group and her guild. I only use a few at a time so only kept 10 and that is more than enough for me.

luckydiver17 04-01-2014 08:02 AM

Just bought some and am waiting to use them! My binding always ends up wonky, I'm hoping these really help!

Rose Burnett 04-01-2014 08:08 AM

I love mine! My 50 red ones were $31.95, but worth every penny. I will look around for bargains on the next ones. I use mine to hold the blocks together on my queen size ragged flannel quilts. I use about 42 on a row of blocks without one single finger prick or getting my legs stuck when I readjust the quilt as I sew.

nanac 04-01-2014 08:16 AM

I always struggle with my bindings, but with the wonder clips, I find that the binding lays flatter, and I get a smoother look. But what I like best? No more pricked fingers :)

PolkaBabe 04-01-2014 08:44 AM

I love both the Wonder Clip & the Jumbo Wonder Clip. In fact I have double sets & at present time they are both all in use.

FroggyinTexas 04-01-2014 10:42 AM

I love large hairclips. The wonder clips might be wonderful, but I can't afford them. froggyintexas

misseva 04-01-2014 11:12 AM

I use the hair clips but find it takes a LOT of time to clip on my binding. I just started not using pins or clips when sewing on my bindings. Just line up my edges, sew, line up again, set. That way I don't have any pins to get stuck with or clips to remove. I do use hair clips to keep block sets together & many other things too. I also use the small black binder clips you get from office supply/WalMart.

maga 04-01-2014 11:27 AM

I have bought 30 clips from the 99 cent store. There are assorted sizes, but the mid size and large size work great. At that price you can buy 2!!

Raggiemom 04-01-2014 11:29 AM

I love mine!

sxboyer 04-01-2014 12:35 PM

I find that the small binder clips from any office supply place work very well, and are very inexpensive.... I use them for so many things, but binding is one of the most used places

Tfch8184 04-01-2014 03:03 PM

Worth every penny. I bought two cases of the red ones off amazon. Best $25 bucks I've spent for quilting supplies.

oldtisme 04-01-2014 05:30 PM

Great idea mustang!

Pilgrim 04-01-2014 06:38 PM

I bought a small package and decided the pins could go by the way side. I then purchased 50 and keep them in a jar by my machine so when I do binding they are handy. I love them.

raksmum 04-01-2014 08:28 PM

I have both sizes and never use them.

Painiacs 04-01-2014 11:11 PM

I love mine!! Had other clips but gave them away!!! Love my wonder clips!!!!

carolynjo 04-02-2014 04:07 AM

I'm no help because I still use the dollar store hair clips. I quit using pins years ago.

misseva 04-02-2014 06:21 AM

I too use the Dollar Store hair clips and used to clip down one whole size of my quilt but found it really isn't necessary so I just clip 2 or 3 before where I'm stitching. BTW I use this when hand stitching the binding to the back. I don't even pin/clip when I'm sewing binding to the front of my quilts any more.

Ripped on Scotch 04-02-2014 06:34 AM

I was part of the Reddit Secret Santa Gift exchange and I was sent a box of 50. I haven't tried them yet but I'm excited now after reading some of the comments to see what I can use them for. My Secret Santa was pretty awesome! I recieved the box of wonder clips, a box of applique pins, a block book, a rotating cutting mat, and 4 Disney Dvd's! I really lucked out this year!

feffertim 04-02-2014 07:13 AM

I use them all the time, they are wonderful. I rarely use pins anymore between these clips and elmers glue. You can get them on Amazon fairly inexpensively. You will use them all the time.

Like all things that are 'new' they seem an expensive remake of old ideas.cheap hair clips are just as good.I have seen these re-marketed as 'quilt clips' as twice or more the price.Save money-- buy fabric! Love Letty.

grammysharon 04-02-2014 08:27 AM

I don't use all of mine either, I use 6 when I am binding!!!
