Second thought. I'm sure I have some. Send me your name and address and will send them when I unpack. Will you pay postage?

I believe I have lots of them to get rid of. If you will pay for postage, they are yours. Please email me back and let me know if you want them. All sizes and kinds...... I collected them as well and now I want them gone to someone else. I hate throwing things out. I'll let you know how many I have when I hear back from you.

I know that some of mine are from 1960 or earlier.
Some belonged to a deceased sister and it is hard for me to part with them. One has an old needle still in it that belonged to her. Both hers and mine still have thread on them. Someday someone will throw them in the trash when I am gone, but in meantime, they stay put on her thread dolly and in my thread box. No reason for keeping them except they are old and so am I. |
i think a lot of us save them too, i have mine in big gallon jars and have put some mini ones into the ball blue caning jars. I save all plastic ones as well, into old
mayo jars. At years end, I count up how many are in a box that I used for the year and distribute them to the jars. |
I have saved and collected most anything related to quilting. Got all my grandma's old stuff.
|
I have cut the wooden spools in half on my band saw and used them as decoration on hand-made needle holders. They can also be used as drawer pulls in your sewing room, or glued on to the tops of jar lids as a handle.
|
I have old bobbins in an old jar as well. I have put a lot of my old wooden spools on a cord and I use them as a garland. I have quite a few, can't let go of them though.
|
I love the old spools especially the ones with the paper still on the ends. I found one in my thread box with the price of .15 on it. I will save this.

I dont have a camera or know how to post pictures but when my daughter comes I will see if she can post pictures of my lamps. I also got some old wooden spools with silk thread on them when I bought an antique thread cabinet. One of the pluses was the old thread in the drawers. I just love them.
|
I had my husband make me shelves, using my wooden spools
The first one I use in the bathroom for towel & washclothes, The other one we left the thread on them, the shelves are only 3 inches deep, so I use it to hold my thread, in my sewing room It is really neat! |
I use the wooden spools for kumihimo. They are weighty enough to make the cords hang well. I weave them through an old circular stool that has a hole drilled through the middle.
|
I inherited some from my great-aunt. i made a lamp from a large canning jar that was my Grandmother's. My DH bought a lamp kit from Lowes and I filled the jar with spools, some with thread and the empty ones I wrapped scraps of fabric around. Threw some old buttons in there too. For the shade, i wrapped fabric strips vertically. It turned out really cute and if I want to change the color scheme, I just replace the fabric. I posted a picture on another thread, "What do you do with empty thread spools" page 3- if you want to see it.
|
I, too love wooden spools. Over 40 years ago, my grandmother
made Christmas ornaments with them. I think we saw a pattern in McCalls needlework or some other magazine. She made toy soldiers, angels, and clowns. I have continued to keep the spools that I have....many empty, some slightly used, and many full spools. Lots of them are large spools that we used in our dress stores. I have no plans for them, but I enjoy having them in case I want to make more ornaments. Rose |
I threw a bunch away but if I come across anymore I will holler.

I am not sure, but I may have some smaller ones in my thread box. PM me with your addy and I'll send them as soon as I can if there are any in there
|
I don't know what I would do with many wooden spools today, but when I was a small child, I remember my mother and grandmother would give them to me to string on a shoe string or a ribbon to make necklaces. Great fun then, sweet memories, now.

I made a large spool shelf. I used threaded metal rods. Put the spools over the rods. Then a 1 inch plank which had 4 holes drilled in it, all at equal distance from the edge. I had four shelves. It was over 5 foot high. I used it for plants. The spools have to be the same size on each rod, at the same level to keep it balanced. Different sizes can be used. To keep it all tight, it has a nut screwed to the top and bottom The top and bottom spool was drilled with a larger hole to cover the nuts.

I have an old one, carpet & button thread from J.P.Coates. Is this what you are looking for?
|
Hey folks I have lots! Will barter for fabric but I might not be able to do it until after the holidays.

I have a few e-mail me @ [email protected]

I lost my Mom 18 years ago, when I was only 29 years old. One of the biggest regrets I have had is I never had the desire to learn to sew or anything while she was alive. A couple of years ago my Dad made me a beautiful wood stand for my fish aquarium. My step Mom knew that there was some wooden spools in a trunk that my Dad has of his and my Moms stuff, so when my dad got ready to put handles on my aquarium she got out the wooden spools and gave them to my dad to use for the handles. This was such a special touch on this. Everytime I look at my stand I know I got a very special gift from my Dad, Stepmom and my mama.
|
I just found 20 different sizes, different shapes, some very old. Will mail as soon as I can.

My dad made a small table out of the spools when he and my mom were first married. He glued or placed them on a small dowl or both for legs, then put the top and another shelf in there. He then stained it dark. We had that around for many years! I have to wonder what happened to it. I've not seen it (mom passed 4 years ago). Hmmmm....will have to ask the sisters.
|
I hate to tell you ladies, but they really have no value at all in the antique or collectible market. They are worth whatever you can get for them on eBay or at a yard sale, that's all. The ones with silk buttonhole twist on them are worth more, only because the thread is not made any longer and it is great for embellishing, but it is the thread, not the spool that is sought after. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Collectib...ead-spools.htm

Put your thinking caps on and make something useable from these wooden spools. I remember also, having these in the toy box to stack and roll. Wow! That was lots of decades ago!! LOL! Wonder why I can remember these things and not what the movie was I watched last night!!?? |

Well, they might not be worth anything money wise but they sure make me happy to look at them and to collect them. I love things I had or was around when I was growing up, that you don't see anymore. And my kids have never seen, like the wooden ice cream makers, that we would put a toe sack on and sit on it while someone cranked it. I have 2 of those, and they are worth some money. So it's whatever floats your boat, as the old saying goes. LOL
