I too shop at the place where nothing is over a $1 and have found zip closed bags in several sizes there. From one gallon to big enough to hold a finished project. I have found them to be a nice heavy weight plastic as well.

I use the 1 or 2 gallon ziplock bags. I prefer the 2 gallon, because it can hold more fabric. I get them at Target.

The small 12.5" x 14.5" bags are now $2.00 each. http://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/gift/34710 |
I use $1. plastic shoe boxes to store pre-cut squares, triangles, jelly rolls, charm packs and small scraps separated by color. Smaller bags within other plastic shoe boxes are used to sort 4 patches or HSTs by size. Uncovered plastic shoe boxes within a large drawer are compartments labeled as to press, to trim, and file. Pattern, fabric and usual work in progress fit in the flat scrap-booking type hinged plastic boxes used by Judy in Phoenix, AZ. The exception would be using a large sweater box if working on one of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilts because I corral so many colors. :-) Confession: UFOs or almost finished WIP can be downsized to Rubbermaid take-a-longs about size of 9x13 cake pan.
No wonder DH says I have containers for everything or was that everything goes in some type of container! He's <3 right! :-) |
I like to use various size zip bags for projects or portions of projects in progress. I also have some rectangular plastic baskets of different sizes that work well for holding folded fabric set aside for use in a specific future project. This allows the fabric to still be visible so I don't wonder "whatever happened to that pinecone fabric I know I had" yet obviously set aside for that project.

I use old pillowcases

I buy storage bags from the Dollar Store. They have a ziplock closure and a handle and the large and X-large are great for holding all the fabrics. And best of all - you get 3 for a dollar!

I have some from Eleanor Burns that I like really well. She has them on sale once in a while and that's when I get them. I get her emails.

Do any of you use Schwans? I asked my Schwans guy for some extra bags. They are really big and he gave me about 10 of them! Nice! Plus I keep whatever bags my food comes in from Schwans as well
