Oksewglad,...that quilt is stunning. I cannot imagine doing a 9p that is 1 1/2". Amazing talent and perseverence.

Teen I have a feeling you will get there. You are making great progress with your "larger" squares. I remember when I decided to see if I could make 1/4" squares in a 9P. I did it, not perfect, but I could do it...the rest comes with practice. This was my first quilt that small. I have learned so much in the past 9 years.

Wow!! terrific mini works of art!!
Macybaby - Cathy your stars and mini blocks are amazing!! They are so cute and precisely made! Did you draft your own patterns? oksewglad - Your big 9P is beautiful!! You are so creative and inspiring! I would love to try making a few of those blocks - What is the size of your tiny finished 9P blocks and also what size is the block in your quilt that contains the nine little 9P blocks? Teen - I like Paula Doyle's book - lots of useful info I do like working with crumbs - I find it relaxing and fun! I don't have pics but have made many sets of drink coasters using blocks made from crumbs with a narrow border - finished sizes were 3.5 and 4". I used all kinds of tiny scraps and used either felt or regular fabric for backing with interfacing inbetween for stability - sold lots at our Guild's quilt show. |
Costumegirl, I was doing Carol Doak's 50 stars. They are 12" blocks and I shrunk them down to see just how small I could get. I really like working with the small pieces. I really enjoyed the 365 block challenge with all the 3" blocks. I think the "worst" had over 40 pieces.
that challenge is great for learning to deal with small pieces. The blocks start easy and get more complicated, but very few are actually hard. That challenge has been so popular, I think they are doing it again this year (third year). |
Thanks costumegirl...The blocks in the big mini finish at 7 1/2". I used scraps for all of the pieced blocks...as I like to say "no yardage was harmed in the making of these blocks". The light squares and rectangles came from the 2" bins and uncut scraps.
In the pastel quiltlet, the 9P's finish at 3/4". |
Oh my goodness you are all amazing. I have never even thought let alone seen things this small. It is a whole new world. But I Must, I Must, finish some big ones first. I have started to think I am one of the slowest quilters in the West but I have found a quilting group here in Arizona and they are very helpful. I have learned a lot already but we will have to go back to Canada in about 6 weeks. Darn. They only meet once a week. Maybe next year...
