Salvage what you can and frame it.

I wouldn't cut it up either. I would find a way to patch it up and and maybe give it back to her. This is what quilting is all about. Patching and sometimes making something from nothing. Good luck.

I would not only repair the quilt that was your MIL's but also use it to make a replica quilt to replace it so your MIL would have a newer version to remember both her grandmother and your kindness also.

I also would try to salvage it and have it requilted. It would be a shame to ruin such a masterpiece like this quilt. I have a couple quilts that old that also need to be repaired, but I would never, never cut them up. They were made by my mother and hold a lot of memories for me.

How about framing a part of it and giving it to the MIL...would be a nice memory..you could make a framed quilt for yourself too.

Maybe your MIL gave it to you hoping you could fix it somehow and since it's so old it seems a sin to do anything but fix it up in my opinion. I wouldn't know where to start but i bet she'd be surprised if you could fix it and bring it back to her it seems very precious. Good Luck. Sue

i've seen sections of the quilt cut to fit a picture frame and of course, its under glass....so each child gets a piece for a keepsake..or your mil

I wouldnt cut it up myself, however I do agree with others with trying to repair it and putting it on display. It is old and very fragile but still beautiful and it would always be better in my oppinion to fix it instead of cutting it up. Good luck with your desicion.
