I have some quilts that I use and some I don't. I bought a quilt that is hand appliqued with Iris all over it, made in the early 1950's. I would never use that quilt, and I am passing it on to my son who loves Iris. I will give him the strong message that this quilt should be preserved. I make many quilts and the people I give them to always use them. My daughter's dog Norah Jean loves to chew on them too and I repair them over and over.

To me it depends on the story behind the quilt. If I made it, I would use it every day; if it was a family thing, I'd probably display but not use it.

I prefer to use my quilts, I do have one on display but it wound up on the bed since we were cold. I have a quilt my grandmother made and I used it till it wore out. I do have a piece that I plan to make a teddy bear out of to pass on to my grand children that there great great grandma made and my grand father tied.

Yes, I use my quilts. I have no one to pass onto. IMHO they are to be enjoyed and well loved. What means the world to you may mean squat to the upcoming generations.

Use it and wear it out. Then I can make another one. When I have them lined up in a closet, it stifles my creativity and I think, why bother. Which is why I quit scrapbooking. After 12, I think I have documented enough.

The only quilt I don't use regular is my great grandmothers, it's right at 100 years old, a grandmothers garden pattern.

I think it depends on the fabric and the meaning of the quilt. I would say most of mine I would use up, but others have fabric or designs that I like.

I have 3 that are over 100 years old, from family; used to use and wash them all the time until I found out how old they were, so now they are not being used

I'm a 'user'! Stuffing it in the closet means you have no memories associated with it, except the making of it. Using a quilt is memories of love, smiles, contentment, happiness, comfort when sad, and so on.
