....include the name of the pattern used.....and if possible and/or practical to include WHERE the pattern came from. As an example the pattern is call "The Witch in the corner" and came from Fons and Porter, Love of Quilting Magazine, October 2004. I look at so many of the pictures of beautiful quilts done here and wonder...what is the pattern!!!! Or say to myself, I sure would like to do the pattern if I knew what it was or where to get it......Please share your information and knowledge.

luvstitches 10-28-2011 07:24 AM

I agree. I have posted one quilt in which I forgot the pattern name and put that in the info. You're right, there are so many lovely quilts that I would love to know the pattern name and where I can purchase it.

luv-e 10-28-2011 07:25 AM

It would VERY NICE if everyone would do this.. Then we Wouldn't have to ask all the questions???
Nice idea

Quilter7x 10-28-2011 07:27 AM

I do sometimes ask what the pattern is and where to get it, but honestly, when I'm posting a picture of something I made, I'm more interested in sharing my accomplishment than the name of the pattern and where I got it from. Shameful, I know.

Susie Quilter 10-28-2011 07:43 AM

What a great idea.

LisaGibbs 10-28-2011 07:54 AM

I have always thought that because there are some really pretty quilts out there and the patterns are so beautiful I want to try it myself.

Rose L 10-28-2011 07:59 AM

And wouldn't it be nice if all of us could read what has already been posted? Often I see that the OP has given the information in a post later in the thread and the question of what, where, how continues to be asked for another ten pages. Grrr ;)

QuiltnNan 10-28-2011 08:19 AM

i try to remember. but most of my quilts are of my own design, so i don't think to include that.

Deborahlees 10-28-2011 08:37 AM

and why not, we will only know how cleaver you are.....
if your own design, share that....

mustangquilts 10-28-2011 08:46 AM

I one hundred percent agree. Half the time I already have the book or magazine the pattern came from. Would sure help the searching proccess. Thanks Lori

PaperPrincess 10-28-2011 08:47 AM

Yes, and also put the post in the correct topic list and use a descriptive title and DONT SHOUT.... Perennial topic.

PWinston 10-28-2011 08:52 AM

I totally agree that name of quilt, book, pattern, magazine where you got it would be helpful. Another helpful idea would be to include the block and quilt size.

I also agree with Rose L, if you are interested in the quilt pattern, technique, etc., read the entire posting before asking a question that has possibly been asked and answered.

Good post.

A personal pet peeve of mine ;)

pastimesquiltdesign 10-28-2011 08:59 AM

For the past month I have been posting pics of the quilts I have designed, but I am afraid to include in the post that you can find the pattern on my website or by calling or e-mailing me. I was told by one of the moderators that I can't advertise my business on the board. What to do?

lfw045 10-28-2011 09:00 AM

It is pretty simple to PM someone or put google the name of the quilt pattern and all the info is usually at your fingertips.

MaryAnnMc 10-28-2011 09:11 AM

It certainly would save the poster from having to answer all those PMs they get about that very question.

Xstitshmom 10-28-2011 09:24 AM

That would be really nice!

Granny Quilter 10-28-2011 09:29 AM

I would also really like to know sizes, as in inches or feet. It is hrd to tell from pictures.

merrylouw 10-28-2011 11:51 AM

I like it when someone shares the name of the pattern, size, etc. And, I think, if you're making a quilt from a pattern with a copyright, that you should give credit to the designer.

And, I'm always impressed with all those people who say they just take off and design as they go! I'm way too much of a "bean counter" to do that! lol

abbynjack 10-28-2011 11:57 AM

I dont use patterns....I am one of those who is a beginner but will use patterns as I make more quilts. I have done 5 at present and will attempt a pattern very soon. There are so many beautiful patterns out there.

susie-susie-susie 10-28-2011 12:02 PM

It seems like a lot of information to include when not everyone wants to know where to get the pattern. If it is your own design, it would be enough to put that information on the post and then anyone who wants the pattern can PM you. Giving credit to the designer is all the information I would need.

pinecone 10-28-2011 05:02 PM

I like all the info too but am guilty as by the time I finish quilting and binding, the pattern has been long tucked away. I have tops that I completed in 2006 waiting for quilting. 8-)

I so hear you there. For that reason I wish we could edit our posts days later to include the info. I'm on-dial-up (which is better than writing on stone tablets) but it takes forever to wade through 6 to 10 pages.

Just-Lee 10-28-2011 05:11 PM

Considering that most picture's posts nearly always have a pattern request, I think it would great if everyone did that!!

duckydo 10-29-2011 02:56 AM

What a great idea, and I think some folks don't read all the posts because they have 6-7 or more pages. we all have our pet peeves. It sure doesn't take much to rattle some folks cages.. LOL :hunf:

Amythyst02 10-29-2011 04:17 AM

When I see something I really like, I just PM the member that has posted it. I have always received a quick reply with the information I asked about. Folks are very nice about it, and actually are excited that someone really likes what they have done, and want to semi copy them.

But it would be nice if they added that info to their picture, then I would not have to send PM's all the time : )

quiltlin 10-29-2011 04:28 AM

Great idea to post the info on the pattern.

MaggieLou 10-29-2011 05:10 AM

I agree. There are so many beautiful ones. It would also be nice if a closeup of the quilt was posted and not draped over a chair. I realize we don't all have a good place to display a quilt, I'm one of them, but after all the work put in to making one I would like to see as much of it as possible.

joycet 10-29-2011 05:19 AM

I"m so glad you mentioned this. I"ve been wanting the same. I often see photos of quilts and wall hangings but seldom where it came from....pattern, magazine, book...etc. Thanks for asking this!!

jaciqltznok 10-29-2011 05:21 AM

didn't someone else post this same topic two days ago??

amandasgramma 10-29-2011 05:23 AM

Yes --- and every time I post a picture I tell myself to put the name in the text ---- and darn near every time I forget!!!!! sorry, but the memory banks don't always work every time for everyone. Oh -- and if I'm doing a customer quilt, I don't always have the name of the quilt pattern!!!! :-D I posted one customer quilt and forgot to put the name in.....on the 2nd page I added the name....and 3 more times in the posting. I also answered numerous e-mails.......I probably won't forget again for a while.

I agree and use the search above...

pjnesler 10-29-2011 05:54 AM

Good point, hope I remember with my next posting....:)

Wanabee Quiltin 10-29-2011 05:56 AM

I agree it is a good idea. I have never posted a picture as I am still new to the board but I will make sure I do include information when I ever do. Thanks for posting this suggestion.

barbrn1128 10-29-2011 05:56 AM

I think that's a great idea.

JanieH 10-29-2011 06:09 AM

I definitely agree!

Ceil 10-29-2011 06:22 AM

I agree. It would also save having the person give the information on page 2 or 3 in answer to the inevitable question and then have people requesting the same information over and over on the next pages!

grannypat7925 10-29-2011 06:34 AM

Great idea!
