I must figure if someone would offer them 3000 they would be way ahead.

oldmountaincrafts 02-15-2011 07:19 AM

I just received a reply to my email inquiry and it's actually $50 and not $5000. They can't even tell me what kind it is except that it's in a cabinet and it needs work. At least we know now that they aren't completely out of their minds!

Didn't we figure that? If they couldn't spell antique, they probably didn't know about decimal points either.

Lady Diana 02-15-2011 07:55 AM

I sent a note to the craig's list person via the listing. They answered immediately. "it is $50 dollers". Yep, "dollers" I hope this notice to them helps them sell their Dress Maker machine.
D in TX.

oldmountaincrafts 02-15-2011 08:00 AM

I received the same info. But being from a family that have several older members who had to drop out of school to work because their families needed it, I try not to be too picky about spelling. That is just a downfall that some people can't overcome. I give them props just for trying!

jlm5419 02-15-2011 08:50 AM

Maybe they just forgot the decimal?

I wonder if they forgot to put a decimal point in there someplace!

Check page 3; it is $50.

anicra 02-15-2011 11:48 AM

The only way any machine would be worth $5,000 is if it gave a good backrub as well as being able to cut the material and sew by itself!

Corky 02-15-2011 11:49 AM

Sometimes you can find books on Amazon priced in the hundreds and right next to them are the same books for $10. I think they are a scam and might want to gather emails or something?

Or, they are nuts! :)

Karen Duncan 02-15-2011 05:00 PM

i didn't realize what a bargain I have.I got a black head Singer, 1929 model that has a screw to lower the feed dogs for free motion quilting for free. The thrift shop didn't think anyone would want it so left it behind the store. I asked them about it and they said, "It is yours!" It runs like a wrist watch and has some attachments and a book..... :-)

jmaurath 02-15-2011 05:23 PM

WOOHOO!!!! If that sells for $5000...... I am going to sell the three I have in storage.........

you guys are a hoot. nobody can sneak anything past you!

biscuitqueen 02-15-2011 05:55 PM

I can't imagine paying that much I've seen singers in the goodwill for only 100.00 with treadle, the cabinet is probably worth that and most likely doesnt work. Most of us own an antique don't we???

That was my thought, too.

NannySandy 02-15-2011 05:59 PM

yeah, good luck getting that. It must be covered in gold.

kathidahl 02-15-2011 07:39 PM

Glad to see that it was a typo..I thought maybe someone would buy it to sew their 2yards of $128.00 fabric...

I took an antique class once and the instructor said nothing was an antique if it wasn't 100 years old. And in England (to our ladies in The Isles, please correct me) it wasn't an antique till it was 300 years old. Well, I have 32 more years to go and guess where that puts me. LOL

The best descriptions of sewing machine parts I've read on Ebay was: the stabber(needle) and stomper(for foot pedal)

Rose_P 02-15-2011 09:56 PM

Let's see: must be the first sewing machine ever. Found deep in a cave in France near those famous old wall paintings. It's hand carved out of mastodon tusks.

wraez 02-15-2011 10:37 PM

just checked your link and they reduced the price to $50, obviously it was a typo the first time, LOL

snicktrain 02-15-2011 10:49 PM

I guess I'm blind - no 'cause I saw something. It was $50. not $5000. on my end. Am I not seeing the "big" question here?? $50. (Nashville)

Okay, just saw where wraez said it had been edited. Good.

Gerbie 02-16-2011 01:12 AM

Maybe I really need my glasses changed, but where do you see $5,000.00. When I checked the site I only saw $50 at the top. Some 00's must have disappeared or part of the site didn't open up.

newell 02-16-2011 03:15 AM

I wondered about that also. When I read the ad -- it said only $50.00

It was changed because someone on here e-mailed him to find out the right price. He changed it then. You have to read the whole thread, not just the last page. Check page 3.

twinkie 02-16-2011 05:38 AM

I have an old Dressmaker machine and it is a real workhorse. You can drop the feed dogs also. I wuldn't sale it fer $50. dollers tho

just ask nana 02-16-2011 07:09 AM

Doesn't it say 50 dollars?

iamjanet 02-16-2011 08:04 AM

Looks like the ad has been corrected now -- it's $50. Probably lowered the price because it's an 'antigue'. LOL
Janet

just ask nana 02-16-2011 09:10 AM

Too funny.... corrected amount not spelling...

Lady Diana, I don't know how you feel about your town with that name Keller, but I like the name, that was my maiden name, however spelled Kellar instead of er. LOL
