My husband is a knife collector. He told me that he once heard a conversation like this. Owner of an item asking a seller - 'how much is my knife worth'? Vendor's answer - 'it depends on what side of the table you are sitting on'. It's worth a lot more to the person selling it than it is to the person wanting to buy it.

Some people think that just because it's old, it's worth a lot. It amazes me that some will try to sell something and not even clean it up and make it look presentable. That's just my thinking, though.

Janet Espeleta 02-14-2011 08:57 AM

My 1st thought was maybe they could take some spelling lessons with part of the $5,000.00! LOL

mymsmess 02-14-2011 09:33 AM

The first question that pops into my mind about that ad is: ARE THEY ON DRUGS OR WHAT!!!!!!! lol

Scrap Happy 02-14-2011 10:42 AM

Maybe they don't type well either and didn't put a period in and meant $50.00 or $500.00???

mommamac 02-14-2011 10:45 AM

If they didn't use a 'q' in antique, I bet they didn't use the decimal point in $50.00! Wonder whose doing their income taxes this year?

mayday 02-14-2011 10:46 AM

in their dreams!!!!!!!!!!!!

ladyredhawk 02-14-2011 10:54 AM

wow, you don't get a pic with it? you could buy a long are for that lol

KatFish 02-14-2011 11:14 AM

You'd think that for the asking price they would at least post a picture of the the $5,000 machine that needs a minor adjustment.

pgthom 02-14-2011 11:24 AM

And I thought the one advertised here for $500. was overly optimistic!!! Don't understand why they think these are so valuable. Especially the ones that "need work", "no power cord, can't tell if it works", "can't thread it, but looks like it should work". Hello!!! Guess they think we were born yesterday or have money to burn!!

Do they really think they can find someone dumb enough to spend $5000 on something that they cannot even see. Sounds like a replay of that fairy tale" The Emperor's New Clothes".

I go To The Sea To Breathe 02-14-2011 12:01 PM

Seems like they really don't want to sell it very bad.

neece 02-14-2011 12:19 PM

This all reminds me of when my sons were teenagers and became "beer can collectors". My middle son was about to go in the army and I insisted he get rid of the beer cans or I was going to put them in the trash. He went on about how valuable some of them were. My comment was then why don't you sell them to that person who is willing to spend that much money on an empty beer can. A friend of his ended up buying them for 50 cents each. It's only valuable if someone is willing to spend that much for it. Kinda like buying Elvis's stinky blue suede shoes.

Well, let's see what the person has to say. I just emailed him/her for more information and pictures and asked if the price was accurate. I would almost bet that this is a scam and they are trying to get email addresses to start sending viruses and infecting computers. This is how they do it!! Don't ask me how I know, ASK MY HUSBAND!!!!!
