Ya know, I just found out..

that using hot glue dots on your ruler really works well as non-slip devices....IF YOU PUT THEM ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RULER AND NOT THE TOP!! :(

Suze9395 05-04-2012 02:21 PM

LOL
Kitsie, all I can think is TGIF!! As my DH just said, "It has been a week of Mondays."

Pat625 05-04-2012 02:42 PM

REALLY??? I am so glad I am not the only one that learns these types of lessons!! Thanks for the upbeat end for my day!!

gblake 05-04-2012 02:47 PM

Good tip. I will try it.

QuiltnNan 05-04-2012 03:16 PM

I can top that, but it has nothing to do with quilting.

About a month ago, I thought I'd bought a little tub of strawberry Philly cream cheese, but when I searched the fridge for it a day or two later, I didn't find it. LAST NIGHT, I opened my spare lid drawer to get a lid for a circle pattern----------there's a tub of Philly Cream Cheese -----------Strawberry flavored in the corner of the drawer.

I'm going to need a keeper in the not very distant future.

Kitsie 05-04-2012 03:43 PM

Obviouslt I'm not the one to help you, Grannie!

Thanks for the tip and the warning. Sounds like something I would do.

When I was pregnant I would put the ice cream in the cabinet!!

virtualbernie 05-04-2012 05:00 PM

I've done that too! I've also flipped my ruler so that the dots were on top when I was cutting and didn't realize it until the ruler slipped

Tartan 05-04-2012 05:10 PM

Of course once you peel them off the top and put them on the ruler bottom the adhesive won't hold. Look on the bright side....maybe you'll need another trip to your LQS for more dots and fabric.

Kitsie 05-04-2012 05:23 PM

Huh? I can just peel them off the top, toss them, turn the ruler over and put some more hot glue on the bottom, can't I? I already did and all is well!

sahm4605 05-04-2012 06:15 PM

just remember not to touch the glue till it is good an dry. had a cat that was interested in a hot glue gun and learned that hot glue is an aowwieeeee. she burned the bottom of her paw and two wiskers melted. (I felt sooooo bad for her)

Divokittysmom 05-04-2012 07:00 PM

Yep, totally something I would do!!! I had heard rubber cement dotted on the bottom works too. I don't have that but sure have a glue gun!! Great tip. thanks for sharing it... and your boo boo...

Are you sure it's a week of Mondays, or just Friday the 13th once a week?

I'm going to guess that is far less successful than putting the ice cream in the fridge part.
I'm just old. Maybe the 3 pregnancies wiped out part of my brain?

lfstamper 05-04-2012 07:25 PM

Too funny. I have been using small dots of sandpaper. It really grabs!

Tartan 05-04-2012 08:51 PM

Sorry Kitsie, my dots were peel and stick from my LQS. I missed the all important word "HOT" in your post.:)

vickimc 05-04-2012 10:23 PM

I did that with sand paper dots the other day!!! Lol

Lavada 05-05-2012 03:20 AM

guess we all learn the hard way as dad says

EvelynJ 05-05-2012 03:34 AM

Kitsie, trust me I do crazy odd stuff like this to, all the time. And for Grannie, girl I feel you, it's amazing where you can find things. I swear there are little gremlins running throughout my house at times because like you I find stuff in the oddest places and I think to myself, did I really do that? I must have because there it isl

eparys 05-05-2012 04:30 AM

Sounds like a lesson that I would learn - lol. OBTW - putting old fashion "Rubber Cement" , the kind that kids use in school projects (folks outside the US can not find this so I am told), works fantastically as well. Just let it dru for about 30 minutes. Oh did I mention that it too needs to go on the bottom?? :D Since there is no heat involved, it can not damage the ruler and can also be pealed off easily when it gets yucky.

Latrinka 05-05-2012 04:36 AM

Definitely sounds familiar!

Lisa49 05-05-2012 04:46 AM

I did the glue on the bottom and love it now I am not sliding when I cut. Love it. Just finished putting all of my fabric on comic boards and it looks so good and I can see everything I have at a glace.(no more sorting through piles) I saw the hint to Pinterest and I have never been so organized. Love it, love it, love it!!!!! I never thought I would go through 125 boards but I did. Have a great day everyone.

LTeachergeorge 05-05-2012 04:55 AM

Another quick "gripper" solution is to use clear nail polish sprinkled with salt (on the bottom of the ruler). I usually let it set overnight but found it works great!

It wasn't the pregnancy part that fried my brain but rather the raising of 3 boys and 1 girl. Then you kick in the menopause fog and it is a disaster in the making. Amusing sometimes but mostly just irritating. Ann in TN

amandasgramma 05-05-2012 05:07 AM

Just wondering ------ how long did it take you to figure it out???????????????? ROL!

don't laugh to hard I just found on of rulers with the sand paper dots on the top????????

OmaForFour 05-05-2012 06:22 AM

I never heard of that trick before. I will try it. Glad you discovered which way to use the glue. LOL LOL LOL

bunbytes 05-05-2012 06:30 AM

At least you can peel off the hot glue dots on the wrong side of the ruler. I was infamous for sewing my sleeves inside out when I first started to sew. Rip, rip, rip! I now triple check before I sew sleeves. Now I can mess up on other things!

And another thing about hot glue dots….

…to stop rulers sliding – They also help to get a smooth cut over seams.
I like to use a 3 x 9” ruler to trim pieces but found that the ruler would “spin” or move too easily if it had to go over a thick seam. I tried to push down on the ends so that the ruler would curve. The ends would touch the surface but after cutting 20-25 times my hand was aching and the cut was wavy!

Discovered by accident that the glue dots on the end corners of the ruler allowed it to stay level over the seam and not slip. Now I put them on all my small rulers.

LOL My youngest son, now almost 24 was like that as a toddler. Don't touch the crock pot, honey, because it gets very, very hot. Yep, he reached up to make sure I was telling the truth! While helping me make brownies, I had him on the other side of the counter away from the stove. Don't touch the burner, it will burn you because it's very, very hot. Yep, had to try that out, too. It only took two times for him to figure out that Mommy was telling the truth! His curiosity and tenacity have taken him far, but not without some owies!

denveremerson 05-05-2012 07:02 AM

Thanks for the tip. I've tried Invisigrip, the little silicone dots, sand paper dots, all to slipping , sliding and frustration. This is certainly worth a try.

PKGranny 05-05-2012 07:13 AM

I had to laugh at that. Reminded me of the time I was sure the store didn't bag my shampoo. I found it on the cash reg. receipt, so knew I'd paid for it. Well, guess what, I found it a few days later in the refrigerator. Good thing the kids didn't hear about this!

Thank God, I usually have the ability to laugh at myself. I opened the cream cheese and it smelled okay-------but the dog got it,

QuiltnLady1 05-05-2012 08:26 AM

LOL -- Glad I am not alone. I bought some rotary blades and tore the sewing room apart trying to find them. I found them after buying more -- in the freezer. :)

Kitsie 05-05-2012 08:29 AM

I swear I'm going to make an "O Crap!" document folder but I'm afraid my multi-gigabyte computer doesn't have space!!
