Yellow or white inner border?

2 Attachment(s)
I am not too excited about this quilt. It has not turned out at all like it was on the design wall in my brain. However, I am going to finish it and then look at it harder. I think I didn't select my fabrics too well on this one. Quite often I don't like a quilt until it is finished, and I hope this is one of those times. :)

The current question is the inner border....white or yellow.

Thanks for any input.

Dina

Definitely the yellow

quiltsRfun 10-30-2015 03:54 PM

I say yellow.

Elise1 10-30-2015 04:01 PM

I vote for white. :)

SherylM 10-30-2015 04:05 PM

I like the white.

maryb119 10-30-2015 04:16 PM

Do 2 sides in yellow and 2 sides in white.

sandrab64 10-30-2015 04:30 PM

What about a checkerboard border of yellow and white and green and white four patches?

Tartan 10-30-2015 04:54 PM

I like the white. The yellow looks to " John Deerish" unless it's for a guy?

sewingitalltogether 10-30-2015 04:56 PM

White, definitely.

Three Dog Night 10-30-2015 04:56 PM

I vote for the yellow.

MadQuilter 10-30-2015 05:15 PM

If you want it to look cooler go for white. If you want it to look warmer go for yellow. Either will work.

Irishrose2 10-30-2015 05:41 PM

I have to say neither. Each one touches a similar/same color and they bleed together. What color are the flower centers? A burnt orange or rusty brown would work for me. I like the idea of a dark orange.

Tiggersmom 10-30-2015 05:44 PM

I vote for yellow and white squares all around.

I agree. If that is not possible, then yellow would be my choice.

Genden 10-30-2015 07:03 PM

Because, as has been pointed out, either yellow or white touches a yellow or white block, I would use neither. The dark center color of the flowers would work, but I would use the dark background color in the floral fabric. I can't tell if it is black or a very dark green, but I like that color for the inner border.

Oh, you know me, gotta mix things up a bit and offer an alternative with color wheel connections.....
I'd use a deeper, golden yellow like that in the print but which is NOT used in the other fabrics. AND I'd make it narrower than what you've cut now. Let it be a "stopper border" ("stops" the action of the blocks before adding the borders so those fabrics don't "bleed" into the borders.)

If you have a piece nearer that color, just lay it along beside the blocks and see if you don't see what I mean. Sort of like this:

I like Jan's suggestion.

zozee 10-30-2015 08:54 PM

I like Jan's suggestion as well.

BETTY62 10-30-2015 10:12 PM

I like the yellow one.

beaqltr 10-31-2015 12:00 AM

I agree with IrishRose2 and Jan. Neither white or the same yellow. Either orange that matches center or a darker yellow. Maybe a little narrower than the strips you have.

LilaKay 10-31-2015 03:51 AM

Yellow! for sure.....

Jordan 10-31-2015 05:11 AM

I really like the yellow-so bright and pretty. Nice quilt.

Dina 10-31-2015 05:30 AM

Thanks for all the ideas. Not to do some playing.

Dina

luvstoquilt 10-31-2015 05:41 AM

I agree with Jan but might di it with the Orange.

ManiacQuilter2 10-31-2015 05:42 AM

The white looks sharper. Dina, this quilt might look nice being crosshatched. Have you consider it??

MartiMorga 10-31-2015 05:50 AM

I'm for white -

pinkflowers 10-31-2015 05:55 AM

I like the white over yellow. It looks crisper. But I’m notreally sure if I like the way the inner white blocks (or yellow muddle together with the inner border. Maybe use a different fabric or color that was not used for the inner blocks.Something that coordinates, but stands out.A solid fabric of yellow/orange or very dark green?

I like the more narrow"stop" then wider borders but I have yet another idea use your solid green as the inside narrow border then wider borders of yellow white and yellow again.

Or

Do you have more of the print? how about using that in the border

Narrow green, wider yellow, print, yellow or white then green again . That would mimic the path in the quilt.

Rebecca_S 10-31-2015 06:24 AM

Yellow is better to my eye.

Vat 11-01-2015 03:14 AM

Of those two I like the yellow but if you have enough of the dark green I think I wold love it.

DebbieJJ 11-01-2015 03:16 AM

I also like Jan's suggestion of the narrow white and then narrow yellow strips.

Reba'squilts 11-01-2015 03:17 AM

I like the yellow.....but I guess Tartan makes a point about John Deer!!,

youngduncan 11-01-2015 03:18 AM

Both of your possible border choices will work. If it were mine, though, I would go with the white inner border. It seems to be a little bit crisper than the yellow one. Which ever you choose, I would do the binding in the same color/fabric.

celwood 11-01-2015 04:13 AM

I agree...yellow

paoberle 11-01-2015 04:14 AM

I think the white makes the quilt "pop". When you lay them out and look, which one do you keep coming back to? That is the color to choose.

patsynel 11-01-2015 04:23 AM

I am no help as I like both choices.

sshell 11-01-2015 04:24 AM

Do I see a darker green block in the quilt? I think something other than the white or yellow would separate the border from the center section. Or is there another color you could pick up from the floral blocks?

sept97 11-01-2015 04:48 AM

oooooo I like the yellow and white checkerboard or do a piano keyboard in all the fabric

wow, I'm really different I guess. I would put either a very dark green or actually I would use black, not very wide, but that is the way I would go. Definitely not any of the colors of the blocks. You will have to now post what you use as we will all be waiting. Love the colors, looks good. Whatever you chose, have fun with it.

fivepaws 11-01-2015 05:59 AM

I would have to go with the white.
