How long 'til Christmas?

77 Days

14 Hours

44 Minutes

...But who's counting?

Rebecca VLQ 10-08-2010 06:21 AM

Heh. Right now I'm in the throes of soapmaking. I need to bind a quilt, then do a lap quilt with things from my stash plus this:

http://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabri...d-29889bf8fb7b

Then a baseball twin size.

Also, bind my DD's quilt. Or, make a ruffle. I'm leaning toward ruffle.

craftybear 10-08-2010 06:37 AM

I bet soapmaking is fun, do you sell your soap?

I do, I do! Since it's cold process I've gotta get it done NOW so it has time to cure.

Right now I'm about 300 bars short of what I want.

Noooooo worries, right?

One year I helped a friend make soap for his children. It was a tradition that the kids always got handcrafted gifts, and he had just divorced his wife, so he was on his own. We made soap in bars and different molds. I got hooked. Now I have all this soapmaking stuff to do something with.

We needed to wrap the soap in something, so I made little drawstring pouches from some cute Christmas fabric. He included a hand carved Santa in the gift, since he loved to work with wood. He passed away a few months after Christmas due to lung cancer. His 3 kids treasure that Santa and soap, knowing that he took the time and interest to do it all on his own. :)

^^^Awwww, that's such a lovely story! :D

Yes, my Christmas crafting efforts started about a month ago. Don't have photos taken yet but will do so eventually. I've been making pillows, appliqued hot pads and simple things like that. So much to do, so little time!!! :)

quiltingaz 10-08-2010 08:32 AM

I am making a quilt for my parents bed. It is from a pattern in F&P mag, but am having to change size to fit bed, so not sure exactly what it will turn out to be. It is all done in blue batik. Of course, this week I am finishing quilts for DGD's BD, and one for SIL. Leaving next week for Oregon for MIL's memorial service and need to have those 3 done to take plus mini for GD's dolly. Then when we return our house should be finished and we will be moving out of our 5th wheel into a real house with a real sewing room. I have spent last 13 months in this tiny house trying to make big quilts!

CarrieAnne 10-08-2010 08:33 AM

I am working on some pillowcases. Thats it so far, but I am making some lists!

MadQuilter 10-08-2010 09:33 AM

OH YES! My pile of diddley and squat is growing by leaps and bounds. lol

Baysidegal 10-08-2010 10:55 AM

LOL I am jumping around from project to project trying to get something finished.. Boy that pile is really growing and time is getting short!

Tink's Mom 10-08-2010 11:01 AM

I'm trying to get stuff done, but I keep being drawn to this site.

Lady Shivesa 10-08-2010 11:22 AM

I've got some stuff done, and some stuff half done and some stuff that needs to be done! LOL

So far I've got

A wall hanging for my little sister
A wall hanging for my other little sister
A wall hanging for my little brother
And a wall hanging for my mom

I need to bind the table runner for my MIL.

And start a million more projects!!!

DebbyT 10-08-2010 11:57 AM

I am trying to finish the sewing room so I can actually sew in there. I have my grand daughter here and can't get a thing done. I started cutting for 2 quilts but that was 3 weeks ago. She goes home Sunday then it is a sewing blitz.

belmer 10-08-2010 12:15 PM

I am still working on my DS Frosted memmories quilt, just have to add the binding. I am also playing around with some table toppers. It has been so warm here hard to think of christmas.

wanderingcreek 10-08-2010 12:21 PM

I have 3 quilts to do for my niece's children. I have 2 started and still trying to figure out what to do for the other one. I have another twin size quilt to make and then I have to make a queen size quilt for a wedding on January 15th. I am also making halloween wallhangings for my grandson to take to school and Xmas stockings for 6 kids. Am I in a different time zone than Crafty Bear so that I get more time? I guess it is a good thing I am presently unemployed so that I have more time to sew. HaHaHa!

laceybritt 10-08-2010 12:27 PM

I love to make cold process soap and I was getting pretty good! I bought the lye in Winn Dixie, now with the drug probs it is not available. Where do you buy your lye from??
I think it makes great gifts, my fam loves it.

Our ACE hardware carries it (or used to...I don't know now...) but since I buy in bulk I get it online. You have to sign a HAZMAT thing for it...perhaps to deter criminals?

noveltyjunkie 10-08-2010 03:28 PM

Aw. I feel cheated. The in-laws have a no gift policy this year (kids excepted, but the only kids are mine so, no one to make for)
My own family is far away. Must make things to post to my mother and sister though- I can just put my all into those two projects......

aliaslaceygreen 10-08-2010 03:54 PM

NO!!! Don't say its that close!!!
I am in denial...

leahbug 10-08-2010 07:42 PM

I made my list today of what I hope to get made for Christmas gifts. Now that I know it is 77 days until Christmas the list will have to be changed....Where does the time go? My problem is I am spending entirely too much time on this board and not sewing. I am afraid I will miss something that I sure needed to know....I do enjoy reading and looking at all the great projects that everyone is doing.

mbunny 10-08-2010 07:48 PM

la la la (hands over my ears) I can't hear you...

OMG, one more year and I won't get stuff done this year either!

moonrise 10-08-2010 07:51 PM

Craftybear!!! :-P :-P :-P

At least say it in "months" rather than "days" so that it sounds further away! ;)

I've made a good start, but still have a looooong way to go.

np3 10-08-2010 08:16 PM

I'm still working on my fall projects!!!

It can't be coming that soon!!!!!

deedum 10-09-2010 04:19 AM

I bought the material to make lap quilts and pillow cases for gifts! Does that count? If wanting and wishing would count I would be in great shape! However, all said and done so far, 1 lap quilt done for Christmas!

plainpat 10-09-2010 04:29 AM

I usually make a little something to go with DDs & Grdau's gift certificates. No longer do much shopping.Right now,I'm making a Xmas fabric table runner for Grdau (just got her 1st apt) & also working on a table runner for both girls, but not with Xmas fabric.Once the blocks are made is where I usually come to a bored end. You say I have 77days....but who's counting? :D

I am about to start a quilt for my father. My mom passed away this July, and I thought he might enjoy a handmade quilt. I did get a couple of the quilts my mom had that my grandmother made; however, they need A LOT of work, and I am new to quilting. So, right now, they are sitting in a chest waiting to be fixed and loved some more

isnthatodd 10-09-2010 04:37 AM

I am off this morning to buy the fabric to make 18 aprons. Then I will get restaurant gift certificates to put in the pockets of the adults' aprons along with a little ditty I hope to make up. I have a chance on the 23rd to use the large banquet tables at church, so want to get them all cut out then and ready to sew. I am still deciding between getting a few long pieces and making them all mostly the same, or getting individualized ones. If I use longer pieces my coupons go further.

The pattern is My Mom's Favorite Apron from Sew Simple Patterns.

So sorry that has happened to you. You should be able to draw workmans comp because of the injury and by law thay can not fire you. Get yourself a good lawyer. My hubby got injured 3 years ago and was out of work for a year. He got a settlement. Don't let your employer get by with this you have rights.

swimchick1984 10-09-2010 05:03 AM

I have my FILs quilt completely done, I sandwiched my brothers last night, hoping to get it quilted this weekend.

I have an idea of what to do with my MILs. I will start it and see how far I get.

bisbetica 10-09-2010 05:37 AM

2 quilts are ready for binding, then off to make many, many handbags and a couple of laptop sleeves for the guys. Any other guy suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
