I've been wanting a Janome Horizon12000 since I heard about them since I've been exposed to machine embroidery (due to this forum) and really wanted a larger hoop than the 5x7 I had! (seriously!) I'd started to save for the machine--here in Poland they cost new about 17,000 zl which is between 5-6K dollars. This seems to be a lot less than in the states.

Last week, on Saturday (the 5th) when I was waiting for a lady at the dentist's office (I had been her transportation), I checked an on line auction here in Poland which is more or less like Ebay, but not. There was one advertised for what made me blink...

When I saw this ad, it said, "brand new Horizon 12000" still with the plastic on it for just over 3K (I'm changing the money back into dollars). It was a Buy it Now. I called in the afternoon, checking several times to see if it was sold yet, but the seller was a new seller with "0" reputation--and usually you don't buy something so expensive without seeing it from a new seller. He just happened to live in our town (Warsaw), and not 200 miles away, which is what seems like usually happens. Apparently the seller put the ad up and then went away for the holidays and just got back on Saturday--the same day I saw the ad. I called on Saturday afternoon and made contact. I asked if I could see the machine and asked for a history of it. I had kind of wondered if it was stolen since there is a dearth of these machines for sale, second hand.

However, the seller told me he was selling it for a friend of his who had bought it for his wife who had filed for a divorce--without ever even using the machine!!!! (Can you even imagine?)

So they were selling this brand new machine (apparently purchased originally in Sweden), for 60% of the new price in Poland, but it is much less than people in the states are having to pay.

I made an appointment for Sunday afternoon and we went and saw it, bought it and took it home. While we were there, he answered the phone from two other interested buyers. In a way I felt like I stole it, but in a way, I felt like it was a gift and was meant for me.

All of the details just worked out...like my checking the auction (which I wouldn't have if I hadn't taken that lady to the dentist), and being able to come up with the money the next day and making contact with the seller because my husband told me, "Go CALL HIM" when I told him about the ad!

I'm one happy/grateful lady.

It had been a rough December because we do so much charity work in December including giving away a bunch of quilts, presents, etc. so I was really tired plus I got dreadfully sick on the 17th which lasted several weeks.

But I know that a few of you can really be happy with me. Just wanted to share my good news! I feel so privileged. I've tested the machine and all seems to work well.

Lucky you!! Its always nice to hear that someone got something they really really wanted. Enjoy.

katesnanna 01-16-2013 04:56 AM

Congratulations, I'm happy for you. My friend has a saying "if you are meant to have it you will get it. If not move on." You were meant to have it. Enjoy and don't forget to put up photos of your quilts.

What a great story. Thanks very much for sharing it! You get what you give. In your case you got a great machine for a great price because of your generosity. You were, after all, only in the waiting room with time on your hands because you took someone else tot he doctor. So enjoy and congratulations.

MimiBug123 01-16-2013 07:23 AM

Some things are just meant to be, and it seems that it was meant for you to have this particular machine! I know you will love it and get much use from it. I have a 10001 that I have certainly gotten my money's worth out of. It's probably 8 years old and I love it. I use my vintage machines for quilting and that one for embroidery. Enjoy your new baby and I am so happy for you!

Congrats to you. I may be able to understand why she filed for divorce though! What a dirty trick on his part....unless it was all his $$ that paid for it.

roserips 01-16-2013 10:43 AM

You know it was just meant to be. With all the good work you do God knows you needed this machine to make it easier for you to do the wonderful things that touch others lives in the best kind of way. Teaching, sharing, giving freely of yourself. Enjoy your new machine.

nhweaver 01-16-2013 10:43 AM

Definitely Karma!! Congratulations - you deserve it, and Happy Sewing! bardzo dobry, Pani!

Debra Mc 01-16-2013 11:13 AM

That is awesome. Machine embroidery is a major addiction for me. I dearly love it. I incorperated it into my quilting as well. I have more patterns than I will ever stitch but still love to collect as quilting patterns. You can add so much to your charity quilts just by adding a little embroidery to them. Good luck & so happy for you.

riutzelj 01-16-2013 11:16 AM

sad about the divorce, sounds like he was trying which was why the new machine for the wife. Blessing for you and those you minister to though. Hope you get years of pleasure out of the new machine and Blessings on your husband for supporting your loves.

oldtnquiltinglady 01-16-2013 11:33 AM

Tears in my eyes too, for this story. I came by my HusqvarnaViking Designer I in about the same circumstances, and caught up on it by Craigs List here in the states--the man's mother died and he inherited all her belongings. He had to go up to Michigan (we are in Tennessee) and bring it all back. She was a quilting/sewing/embroidery teacher and you cannot believe all the stuff that he included with the sale of her machine because his wife didn't want it. I felt so sorry for her memory--that wife didn't want any of her stuff. But I am making up for it now. I think of the lady and thank her every time I use anything of hers--all for less that $1000. When I said to my husband, someone has a nice embroidery machine for sale on CL today; he said "you don't have one?" and when I said no, he kinda flinched and said "I guess that means a trip to Nashville" and I said "yes, right now" and you know the rest of the story.

Anyway, congratulations!!!! Enjoy!!!! And do keep us posted on all your accomplishments on your new machine.

Auntie Em 01-16-2013 11:43 AM
