I've been wanting a Janome Horizon12000 since I heard about them since I've been exposed to machine embroidery (due to this forum) and really wanted a larger hoop than the 5x7 I had! (seriously!) I'd started to save for the machine--here in Poland they cost new about 17,000 zl which is between 5-6K dollars. This seems to be a lot less than in the states.

Last week, on Saturday (the 5th) when I was waiting for a lady at the dentist's office (I had been her transportation), I checked an on line auction here in Poland which is more or less like Ebay, but not. There was one advertised for what made me blink...

When I saw this ad, it said, "brand new Horizon 12000" still with the plastic on it for just over 3K (I'm changing the money back into dollars). It was a Buy it Now. I called in the afternoon, checking several times to see if it was sold yet, but the seller was a new seller with "0" reputation--and usually you don't buy something so expensive without seeing it from a new seller. He just happened to live in our town (Warsaw), and not 200 miles away, which is what seems like usually happens. Apparently the seller put the ad up and then went away for the holidays and just got back on Saturday--the same day I saw the ad. I called on Saturday afternoon and made contact. I asked if I could see the machine and asked for a history of it. I had kind of wondered if it was stolen since there is a dearth of these machines for sale, second hand.

However, the seller told me he was selling it for a friend of his who had bought it for his wife who had filed for a divorce--without ever even using the machine!!!! (Can you even imagine?)

So they were selling this brand new machine (apparently purchased originally in Sweden), for 60% of the new price in Poland, but it is much less than people in the states are having to pay.

I made an appointment for Sunday afternoon and we went and saw it, bought it and took it home. While we were there, he answered the phone from two other interested buyers. In a way I felt like I stole it, but in a way, I felt like it was a gift and was meant for me.

All of the details just worked out...like my checking the auction (which I wouldn't have if I hadn't taken that lady to the dentist), and being able to come up with the money the next day and making contact with the seller because my husband told me, "Go CALL HIM" when I told him about the ad!

I'm one happy/grateful lady.

It had been a rough December because we do so much charity work in December including giving away a bunch of quilts, presents, etc. so I was really tired plus I got dreadfully sick on the 17th which lasted several weeks.

But I know that a few of you can really be happy with me. Just wanted to share my good news! I feel so privileged. I've tested the machine and all seems to work well.

peace:D

I will be, in the future. Right now DH and son and putting in cabinets and I am basically getting a new sewing room--we took almost everything out of the old one--my table, small sewing machine table and moved it all to the basement. The new Horizon stayed in its box for a week before I tried it out. I know, I know, but I had a 3000 piece jigsaw puzzle on the table and couldn't risk losing a piece by bringing out the sewing machine...plus I know myself. If I had brought out the sewing machine, the puzzle never would have gotten finished.

So, until the new countertop is delivered (maybe today) ?? (We ordered kitchen cabinet counter top to fit what I needed in that room) the Janome 12000 is on my dining room table. I did a sample embroidery design to test it out and get a feel for it. When the counter top is delivered (or we go and get it), DH will install it and I can move back into my sewing room. Until then, I'm kind of like a duck in a bathtub--and just decided to sew together some of my 4" squares, trying to use up some of my numerous misc. squares --will attempt to do something like I did with 2.5" squares only I have way more 4" squares.

I don't have that many "big" designs yet for the embroidery part--will wait til emblibrary has a sale again and get some of the larger designs I've had my eye on. This whole thing happened much faster than I had originally thought, so it kind of caught me by surprise and I'm still in shock, a bit, that I have this machine--really all three of my Janomes now--350E, 7700, and 12000. It was after I got my 7700 in 2010 that I found this quilting board. I began to search the internet for more information and needed some support on a different level than the people right around me. Most of them think if you can sew two pieces of fabric together somehow that you are "talented". ;(

So, I will be posting pictures eventually...but I am not getting rid of my 7700--and I feel so very blessed!

I believe it was--and while he was up in Sweden working, she found someone else and filed for divorce to be with the new guy--filed a restraining order against the guy who bought the machine. That's all I know....and all I needed to know--all I wanted to do was make sure it wasn't a stolen machine and I was satisfied that it wasn't.)

(The person selling the machine was a friend of the husband's.)

I don't believe for a minute the wife actually wanted it after all or the pressure feet wouldn't still have been in their original plastic bags and the hoops, etc. Everything was as if in the original unopened state--except the box itself was kind of "beat up".

I had to laugh. As soon as I posted all these, I went to my inbox and got an email saying they are having a Happy Hour sale...will definitely check it out!

God Bless you both. I can only wish you the very best. I make and give away dolls for VERY sick kids (most with cancer) and just sent out 2 today. That means 139 dolls so far have found a child to love.

Keep up the good work. I know that was no accident that you got your dream machine. Good for you.

A few years, there was a guy who was selling his ex-wife's wedding dress on ebay. A big burly guy with tatoos with his due rag on his head was modeling the ex's dress. It was the funniest ad I have ever seen.

Enjoy the machine. If she had wanted it, she would have taken it with her when she left. He's selling it. You are the lucky buyer.
Best wishes!
