It can't be all bad! I have used my Singer for awhile, three or four years and certainly used the amount it cost me. But I was in the middle of sewing a quilt top together for my great neice Saturday night and it went 'klunk klunk' and the wheel wouldn't even turn anymore! I was so aggravated....but today I went to my LQS and bought a mid-range Elna. The 3210. I love it, I finished the top and got the back started. It's quiet, it's fast, love it, love it.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but the next one I get I will pay for with quilts or sewing for people and I'll pay cash. The one I want is over $2,000 but it will quilt, embroider, etc. etc. Elna is all metal parts except for the exterior. That's a plus in my book.

Back to the sewing now that I have a machine that works again. I dug out an old dressmaker machine but it's old and it just wasn't up to the quilting thing, ya know?

Hugs everyone,
Sharon

ain't that the truth!
Me and my little gbaby, Crystal watch a lot of veggie tales, and the one about Madame Blueberry has a little boy in a toy store with his dad. He wants some modern toy with all the accoutrements, and Dad says something like, "well, that is nice, Junior, but we can't afford it today, how about a nice red ball?"
And looking just a bit sad for a moment, he looks at the ball, gets a big grin on his face and says, "A nice red bouncy ball would be just fine, Dad."
Then the little boy sings a song about being grateful to his Dad and God for all that he has, knowing that when his dad is able, he'll get the new toy, eventually.
Hope you and your new red bouncy ball, have many happy days, mimisharon, and thanks for reminding me, how special bouncy balls can be. :D

Glad to hear that you have a new machine and finished your quilt. Also glad to hear of your plans for an upgrade at some later date. I had been thinking of upgrading my Pfaff someday in the future but a sudden problem with it may make that someday upgrade much sooner that I planned. Had it reparied last month by a local guy, I sewed only 2 blocks and problem came up again. Brought it back and this time I got to sew a total of 2 hours before problem was back again. This afternoon I'll be making a big trip upstate to an authorized Pfaff dealer to see what the problem is and hopefully get a free replacement part. Luckly I have a little old plain Brother machine. It saved the day so I could finish the quilt I want to give to a friend this weekend. Been sewing with Pfaff's for about 7 years, love them because they are accurate, quiet and usually so dependable, so I hope the Pfaff dealer can solve the problem for me as I really can't afford to upgrade right now. Yeah!! Congrats on your new machine Sharon. I think I can hear it humming away from here. Enjoy!!

It sure is annoying when our tools don't work when we need them to! So glad you were able to find a solution, lol. I know you will enjoy your new machine until the time comes for another change. I'm not very familiar with the Elnas, but agree w/ you on the benefits of a machine made of metal components. A large part of the reason I bought my Bernina was the dealer - close by and great to work with. Only later did I realize how much a solid machine is worth!

I'm looking forward to hearing about/seeing what you creat with your new machine. Hope you & Roy are well!

Sounds like a match made in quiltig heaven. Enjoy!!!!!!

Don't ya just love that new machine smell? Just as good as a new car, and twice as fun! :D

I understand what you mean by clunk...one of my favorite machines,Singer XL50, about 12-15 years old, went clunk the other day. I just got the bad news from the dealer today. :( The part is under $20, but the labor is about 4 hours worth. I'm looking at about $300 in repairs, but the machine is a workhorse. Dealer even said worth the repair...I trust this guy. :)

How exciting to have a new machine. Happy sewing. Nancy

Sometimes we just need a little "shot in the arm"--whether we "need it" or not. This time you did need it. I'm glad for you.

It was "only" $300, but I'll tell you I bet it lasts a lot lot longer than the Singer Ingenuity I bought for the same price. I remembered that I bought the Singer in '05, it was a fun one but not made for lots of sewing and quilting. I worked that thing over!

mimisharon 05-27-2009 03:15 PM

Thanks for all your good wishes and wonderful congrats on the new machine. I am loving it, I worked up the ends on 44 neck coolers for the troops today, (now each one gets 4 pockets and water crystals, then sew the other end) did a pillow for Roy's back, and made myself a thread catcher/pin cushion. I have to sandwich and pin those quilt tops next. I can't wait but with Roy feeling poorly I don't want to mis baste anything so I'll wait a day or two.

Hugs,
Sharon

Whew !! How can you keep up? I'm tired just reading all you're doing. What are neck coolers? Have I missed something? Sounds like a good project.

I love my Elna, a few months back I got a Elna 7300 pro quilting Queen machine and I absolutely love it. the same thing was happening to me. I was sewing a black and my brother sewing machine went "bang bang ,klunk, klunk" and just died.
Our local dealer gave me a awesome price on my new machine so I could not resist.
I have a Brother PE 700II embroidery machine also. I find I like having one machine for embroidery and while I have something embroidering I can be sewing on the other machine.. I am a multi-tasking person :)

Congratulations on the new machine :)
