You start a new project and you can pull all the fabric you need from your stash - I never thought that day would come 8)

kluedesigns 08-02-2009 07:27 AM

i love when that happens.

i really hate having to shop for a specific project - i just want to pull everything out and get to work.

tlrnhi 08-02-2009 07:38 AM

A person can have enough fabric? NO WAY!!!!!

mcdaniel023 08-02-2009 07:50 AM

If there is such a thing as too much fabric, please don't tell my DH!

billswife99 08-02-2009 07:52 AM

Guess I haven't 'arrived' yet. So I'll keep shopping! :D

Ninnie 08-02-2009 08:28 AM

NEVER!!!
always want just one more piece, and there are new patterns every day, so have to have more! LOL

JoanneS 08-02-2009 08:40 AM

I LOVE that, too. I consider it GOOD planning ahead!

Shemjo 08-02-2009 08:42 AM

I love being able to shop at home! It is much safer! I can always find some fabric even when I have promised myself that I will not buy any today! :?

Eddie 08-02-2009 08:49 AM

Now that's my kind of stash! Great to have your own in-house fabric store, lol!

Boston1954 08-02-2009 08:55 AM

You know you have enough fabric when, you have to start storing it someplace OTHER than the sewing room.

You mean like the tubs and tubs out in our barnshed?

alaskasunshine 08-02-2009 09:28 AM

I'll let yo all know when that happens...so far I still need to buy now and then. Oh, to own a fabric shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MadQuilter 08-02-2009 11:25 AM

ENOUGH FABRIC?????????????????????

wvdek 08-02-2009 11:32 AM

My DD cannot figure out why I need new fabric for this project and that project. She thinks I have enough. Then she'll ask what do I do with it all? My DS was here this week and I pulled out my finished pieces waiting to be quilted. My DD just beamed as my DS looked over the quilts and oohed and aahed and asking when I have the time to quilt. I told her it was like anything you do - you make the time. Then she went on about how she has no time for this and that and.... geesh.  :!:

thismomquilts 08-02-2009 04:11 PM

I made four "Yellow Brick Road" quilts and never bought an inch of fabric - am now in the process of a scappy quilt - not an inch so far!! :)

Jim's Gem 08-02-2009 06:33 PM

I love being able to just pull from my stash!!! I could probably make a hundred quilts without buying anything. Of course that's doesn't stop me from adding to it anyway!!! I usually come up with a reason to buy some fabric when I am making a gift, I will buy a couple of the fabs and then pull the majority from my stash.

zyxquilts 08-02-2009 07:38 PM

You know you have enough fabric when....

Nope, not gonna happen. ALWAYS can use MORE fabric!

shaverg 08-02-2009 08:26 PM

LOL. I was talking to a friend today and said I wanted to go fabric shopping, her husband wanted to know if I had a new project. We just laughed. Other people shop for clothes, I shop for fabric just because I want to. It's therapy.

Iluv2quilt 08-02-2009 08:30 PM

That's so awesome!!! I'm still building mine up, just used some on a scrappy quilt, had to buy the background fabric tho. Maybe someday I'll get there :D :D

cutebuns 08-02-2009 08:33 PM

I have almost a while wall of fabric and I still need more. In fact, I just bought more.

Tippy 08-02-2009 09:53 PM

You know you have enough fabric when........................ enough fabric????
<puts fingers in ears and sings LOUD! > lalalalalalalalalalalala..... never!!

retrogirl02 08-02-2009 10:09 PM

whoever heard of such a thing!?! Enough? sorry, doesn't register....like with other fabricaholics here I too am in denial. As long as I can keep it on the same floor (it used to be "as long as I can keep it in the sewing room but I'm planning ahead) I still have LOTS of room for more. LOL

SuzyM 08-02-2009 10:09 PM

You guys are way too funny.

PamH 08-03-2009 02:46 AM

I tell everyone I buy now because when I retire (in 10 years) I may be poor but I'll have a great stash!

Yea. that's what I'm going to use for my excuse too! :) :) :)

littlehud 08-03-2009 07:56 AM

I'm not there yet, but I'm working on it.

Rose Marie 08-03-2009 08:21 AM

My stash has been growing steadily and I keep adding by only buying online sales. It has to be 3 dollars a yrd or maybe slightly higher. I buy one yard of each.
I really like when a fabric line is on sale and I can get some matching fabrics.
Quilt in a Day has alot of sale fabric, Hancocks of Paducha, Fabric Depot and several more are favorites. I really like Connecting Threads also.
I have shelves for each color and so far they are not full yet, must go shopping.

Quilt4u 08-03-2009 08:27 AM

You know when you have enough fabric when you can't make up your mind what to make with what you got. Never happens. Always want more.

MissAnn 08-03-2009 09:05 AM

And isn't it fun when you finally go through the boxes and drawers and look at all your stash and realize what treasures you have??? I'm about halfway through this morning and I have SO much wonderful stuff. Finally in the mood to start something new.

I recently organized my stash and although it was a lot of work, really enjoyed seeing what I've gathered!

Although I've got enough to do several tops just by pulling from my stash, I've never considered that having enough fabric, though, lol!

zennia 08-03-2009 02:25 PM

I don't believe I have ever heard of such a thing as enough fabric. I was going to donate some fabric to the Salvation Army but then yesterday I found a pattern here,Indian Hatchet, and took the fabric back out of the bag. Never to much. I am lucky, hubby encourages me to keep buying it.

deedum 08-03-2009 04:31 PM

I am still building my stash, 2 full totes and more, so I don't have the answer to that question, or if there is an answer?
My neighbor has @25-30 totes in her attic, heehee, sometimes I shop there :)

Quilting Aggi 08-03-2009 04:48 PM

There is NEVER enough fabric!!!! It's an addiction!

After I posted I came across a plastic box FULL of leftover prints from he lae 50's and early 60's. Not big pieces, but certainly enough to make two inch squares for some sort of Irish Chain or similar.

minstrel 08-04-2009 06:08 AM

This is possible??!!! I don't THINK so, LOL! Some days I wander into my LQS just to "look". (Yeah, right!)

Barbm 08-04-2009 02:11 PM

went to wal-mart yesterday. need some new black dress pants for work. saw some fabric- put the pants back. only had $30 to spend. came home and DD says- you didn't need that!

(but I did need it, honestly, it will match a bunch of other stuff I have)

I've come pretty far- for me to pass up clothes for fabric---- cool, the diva has died and come back as a quilter.

Favorite Fabrics 08-04-2009 05:27 PM

Yes, fabric IS an addiction.

But...

...you know you have enough fabric when... it turns into a business! Unintentionally. (Yikes! What have I done??)

But personally, for me, I realized I had enough when it was sufficient to simply have it pass through my hands for a little while... I no longer have to permanently own it.

That was hard, in the beginning though, to see my very *favorite* selections all "go away". But in the end... saying goodbye to them means that you get to have more fun, because you get to buy more. (Isn't that what it's all about for some of us? Playing with color and texture and pattern, combining and re-combining?)

Don't get me wrong... there's a whole LOT more to running a fabric business than just choosing the next fabric collection. (Most of the tasks are much less fun...)

Yarn or Fabric 08-05-2009 07:39 AM

My stash is out of control. I'm considering selling a lot of it at an upcoming yard sale. There is just too much to deal with and it's taking over my craft room... I've come upon a lot of stuff - sadly a lot it I really don't like at all - so that stuff needs to just go away. It will free up sooooo much space! I actually have a few boxes of fabric that aren't even sorted - my mother has gotten me several garbage bags full of fabric at the rummage sale she volunteers at... I've made out like a bandit at $20 for a big black bag full of material but her tastes are quite a bit different than mine... so in the end I'm stuck with a lot of stuff that I look at and wonder what on earth??!!!!

I'm thinking that kaleidoscopes would be a great way to unload a lot of the stuff I don't want. I have some weird stuff - hunters on horses with dogs... duck panels... pheasants... western material. just all sorts of stuff that I don't see ever using!! I even have USA hockey material - and I don't even like sports! That one will make a great charity quilt for the cancer ward this year. Some teen age boy will love it I'm sure.....
