EVERY single quilt design I make, is out of my comfort zone. But it doesn't take long for me to fall in love again. And again. And again.

You need to just rethink it. We get psyched out with what we hear about things. I didn't know any better and chose a Drunkard's Path as my first project. It wasn't until after I was done that I found out how difficult it was supposed to be. I was very proud of myself, but convinced that we need to not listen to the "others" on all things. Beautiful colors and mix, by the way.

I learned how to make curves a little bit ago and it's not as hard as I thought it would be. Your blocks are so pretty. You chose some really pretty fabric!! And your piecing is so precise! Good job!!!!!!!!

Not only did you do curves, you picked a directional fabric pattern with zigzags and lined them all up! Way to work you skills!

Every time I start a new quilt, I make sure there is something about it that I've never done before. I really, REALLY want to learn and for me the best way to do that is to make sure I'm trying something new all the time. So I'm always out of my comfort zone! LOL!

It's a challenge to work outside the box sometimes. It's good to do and I do it at least once a month. I'm in a small group within my guild that forces me to go outside the box often. I'm also participating in a Brown Bag (adding onto a block) and a Row Robin (making a row ) within my guild now too. Both of those are challenging for me since most everyone is very traditional and I'm not. I made my first HST's last month.

Here is a video showing how to sew curves (namely Drunkard's Path) using a straight line. I've never tried this, but it looks like it might work. When I get the time, I plan to try it. The video title is "Drunkards Path Piecing by Kay Nickols". It make it quicker and easier.

Wow! Lovely fabrics and it looks like your doing an amazing job! I can't even imagine trying circles yet. I haven't even figured out how to quilt yet. (except SITD)

I'm doing the sampler quilt (again) that I did in class this summer. I'm cringing at some of the blocks because they were so hard when I did them the first time and honestly I don't remember how I managed to do them. So, now, I'm stumbling through this book that has crappy directions and no teacher to turn to when I get stuck. (like when I had to square this square today and I couldn't figure out how...but just winged it and it turned out ok.) I feel very much out of my comfort zone and I tend to get frazzled so I just try to take it one step at a time. It's hard though. I'm not sure I'll ever want to do this sampler quilt ever again. (it doesn't help that I don't like the fabrics I picked. What WAS I thinking?)

Sounds like me. There is no pattern simple enough that I can't sew it wrong. lol

Do you have a curved piecing foot? My girlfriend swears by it and says it gives great results.

Sometimes sewing a straight seam is outside my comfort zone:). Seriously though, Yes, I think it keeps you on your toes and expands your quilting experience. You are doing a fine job with this...and your fabrics are gorgeous.

my youngest son wanted a "tumbling block" pattern ... which I am still struggling over but I work on it when the mood fits. I'm sure it will be beautiful when finished. : )

Any pattern with applique in it is out of my comfort zone!

I like your blocks. Working outside your comfort zone can be fun, you learn new things and keep quilting interesting. Curves are easy for me, I was a garment sewist first, learned to quilt
about 20 years later.

Love the patterns / colors you have chosen for your quilt. And YES, I will be working on somehting out of my comfort level, I am taking a FMQ class next week. Excited to learn this new(to me) technique.

I've tried taxidermy, belly dance costumes, hand sewing, drawing, computer graphics, you name it! Quilting is a new one for me, time to bust the comfort zone again!:cool:

Love the beautiful fabrics you have chosen. Yes, I like to challenge myself. I am currently collecting fabrics to do a double wedding ring quilt which I admire but have never tried.

To answer one of the questions..nope I did not use a curve foot but I did use my glue stick, pins and iron. It took abit longer but it was a lot easier and lined up pretty well. I have all the curves done and just need to start putting them all together. My daughter inlaw was bought to the hospital the other night and than transfered to Boston. She is fine but will be there for a week she is due in Jan with my first grandchild. They are just trying to prevent her from having the baby early...oh so anyways...we are dog sitting. It hard to lay out my blocks on the floor and not having the dog walk on them. So debating on if I will sew today. I would love to get the top done this weekend.
