You'll be jealous...

I went to a quilt show with Eleanor Burns! Last night in my dreams. ;)

QuiltnNan 06-22-2012 04:28 AM

probably the same one i went to last year :) hope you had as much fun as i did

JudyTheSewer 06-22-2012 08:20 AM

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! Yep, I am jealous! Dreams are the best!

Hulalulu 06-22-2012 10:04 AM

I actually met a lady who is in Eleanor Burns' Quilt Guild -- and get this -- she has been the "tester" on new patterns -- the one who takes the directions and sews the sample to see if it translates to those of us with only normal quilt IQs....probably as close to Eleanor Burns as I'll ever get too!!!!

BellaBoo 06-22-2012 10:23 AM

I have met Eleanor many times. She is always accessible at her tent show and sale barn at the Paducah quilt show. I always go to her meet and greet there too. It's a lot of fun and she feeds you great! No standing in a vendor booth for a limited amount of time and then disappearing for her! She is out from a.m. to p.m smiling and greeting everyone and mingling with her fans. Her sons and family are just as friendly and accepting of the fans as she is. She is a true quilt legend.

MaryMo 06-22-2012 10:30 AM

You all are quilting addicts .... dreaming of talking with very talented quilters! LOL :D

SouthPStitches 06-22-2012 10:51 AM

No offense to Eleanor, but if I'm going to have a dream, would much rather have Tim McGraw star in it.

jcrow 06-22-2012 10:52 AM

Cool! But did you learn anything? Hee hee

mdall 06-22-2012 10:57 AM

I would love to meet Eleanor Burns. Up until a couple of months ago did not really quilt as a hobby or fun. It was to make gifts for the family, weddings, baby showers, etc. Then one day a friend told me about Eleanor Burns and her shows so I went home and thought well I watch one and see. It was her show on how to make a New York Beauty the easy way. Let me tell you, after that show I just had to make one and have been quilting since. I am even trying to start my own business all because of Eleanor Burns. Thanks Eleanor you have truely inspired me. Guess I should find my way to Paducah next year.LOL

virtualbernie 06-22-2012 11:45 AM

She's here in Maryland!

happyquiltmom 06-22-2012 12:08 PM

I met Eleanor when she was at the Shipshewana Quilt Festival a couple of years ago. She came into the LQS where I work (Caroline's Cottage Cottons in Rome City, IN) and I got my photo taken with her and the other gals from the shop.

barny 06-22-2012 12:46 PM

Well, I went snow skiing last night up in Colorado with a friend.[in my dream] It is in the 100's here! why not?

Buzzy Bee 06-22-2012 03:45 PM

Don't laugh at us dreamers....I make prettier and nicer quilts in my dreams than I do in my studio.....heehee

coopah 06-23-2012 04:00 AM

Eleanor Burns went to the same college I did, does that count for anything? Ummm...that's what I thought. She was a couple of years ahead...never met her there, but did attend a So. CA weekend sew in during the late 80's. Really energetic, friendly person.

dringer 06-23-2012 05:27 AM

this is a really funny story. while visiting relatives in Calif. we were out and about and I saw
this quilt shop; went in, not knowing whose shop it was...while looking around someone said
"Eleanor is taping right now; will be out soon"...Then it dawned on me...she came out and
before I knew it she insisted we have our picture taken..Wow! she was very friendly.

Maire 06-23-2012 05:49 AM

About 15 yrs ago I had the opportunity to take one of her classes at a sewing expo in Pittsburgh, really fun.
But last year I had the once in a lifetime chance to go to the expo in Puyallup (never can remember how to spell that name-hope it is right), Wash. I wasn't able to sign up for her class but I met her in the ladies room! We were at the sinks washing our hands at the same time so we chatted for a min, she was so friendly even though my conversation was probably "duh, duh, duh" while I stumbled over my tonque.

You guys tickle me pink. I am jealous................lol

OHSue 06-23-2012 11:29 AM

I got to take a class with her, Trip Around the World, and she was just the same in person as she is when you see her on video. She was so friendly and outgoing and it was really fun cause she also took time to share some of her personal side, talking about her sons. The son we don't see is one of the largest skateboard manufacturers in the country, that one got her some 'street cred' with my son. She said that he was once interviewed about his business and they brought up that his mom was also an entrepreneur and asked if she had taught him a lot. He said he learned a lot just by watching her. She was a wonderful teacher and gave everyone plenty of individual attention.

Helen S 06-23-2012 12:40 PM

Oh, she is SO much fun to watch! Dream ON! :D

JanieH 06-23-2012 12:45 PM

I have been fortunate enough to take a couple of classes from her at the Houston Quilt Festival! She is as much fun, helpful, encouraging, and delightful as you could possibly want. She is the one who inspired me to start quilting. I love her!

WisWis 06-23-2012 01:18 PM

I can definitely relate to that! I am a great Eleanor Burns fan.

KathyPhillips 06-23-2012 04:41 PM

She is in TX early Nov. at the Houston International Quilt Show. I met her there and she is very nice in person, too.

I was in her shop in San Marcos, CA last year and was told she had just left. That was an "almost", but I've heard she is very friendly if you do meet up with her.

SunlitenSmiles 06-24-2012 03:37 AM

first I ever heard of her was when she suddenly put a 'boa' around my neck at a show.....she had a great booth there and so interesting......a month and 2 days ago I was in San Marcos to visit relatives and stopped by Quilt-In-A-Day ...there was a fabric sale going on in the werehouse, after all discounts were taken the fabric came to $3.00 a yard. Her shop is actually one of the stops in the Southern California Quilt Run which ends at 5p.m. today. There are thirtysomething shops in the run and it is T, F, S, Sunday two weekends in a row.

I guess Patty her sister is as close as I will get. Our quilt guild in Warrensburg hosted Patty last September and will again this year. She talks about E all during the event and demo's E's latest. Cannot wait for September 5th this year. If you are in the Warrensburg MO area, come enjoy Patty with us.

skjack 06-24-2012 05:19 AM

She is just great. I took a class from her this year at Paducah great teacher and very intertaining. Also got to meet Kiley her granddaughter she visited us in class. Also saw her show in the tent, and got her to sign her new book. I look forward to seeing her every year at Paducah. She is the one that got me started in quilting too with her log cabin book.

Barbshobbies 06-24-2012 07:50 AM

A girl friend and I went to her show in Green Bay Wi. many years ago, and as I recall we laughed all night at her stories.
We learned a lot, and bought some of the patterns and books that were sold after the show.

I met her last year at the San Diego, CA quilt show. She is sooooo friendly! I bought her book "Birds in the Air" and she signed it "Feather your nest with quilts!" From there I stopped at her store in San Marcos, CA and bought the fabrics to make that quilt. Here is a picture of it.

ladyredhawk 06-24-2012 11:05 AM

how funny, not quite what i dream about.........LMAO What a beautiful I love it.

Caswews 06-24-2012 12:46 PM

ahhh one day I will meet the legend !

captlynhall 06-24-2012 01:08 PM

I spotted her across the room at her booth at the Houston IQF last year. It was my first time at the show, and I was such a newbie, I was too timid to approach her. I feel a little more confident this year, so maybe...

I love your quilt. I've had a chance to meet Eleanor Burns in Houston in 1998 & Pudacah 2011. Took a picture with her both time, but somehow deleted the one from Paducah show. I showed her my picture from Houston and she said, "we have changed quite a bit". She was a lot thinner, but I think I am heavier. I enjoyed her tent show and shop. Wish I had more $$$, her prices were great.

Bobbiespann 06-25-2012 03:02 AM

Wish I had one of your dreams!

I was having a wierd dream the other night - someone stole my lovely new Horizon ......and I fell out of the bed lol! Nothing broken and my machine was right where she belongs. It was a rather rude awakening.

If you ever get a chance to take a class with Eleanor (outside of your dreams! lol), don't hesitate to do it. She is one of the best and most entertaining quilt teachers I have ever met. We learned so much and laughed so hard. I hope to get a chance to take another class with her. I had just had eye surgery 4 days before the last one and I was sewing with one eye. lol. That was a real challenge!

Janis 06-25-2012 08:59 PM

Did you know that in July (19-21) Eleanor is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana? I went to the QHOF a couple of years ago and took a class and she was in it too. She sat at my table! I did take a picture of her but didn't think to get her autograph. I also attended a lecture that she gave that year. As you say, she is so sweet and down to earth.
