My bro-in-law in Iowa buys and sells all the time. Built a shed from things he bought, sold the leftovers, and the shed ended up costing only hundreds of dollars. On the flip side, here in Alabama, we tried selling an aging van. All we got were inquiries that sounded like scam. "I am buying for my mother in some foreign country and having it shipped. My rep will bring you a check, etc., blah, blah, blah." We responded with "We deal in cash only", and never heard from them again. Our daughter had the same experience with something they listed. It's a good service but, as with anything these days, be careful!

I live in Ontario, but spend winters in our condo in Florida. I wanted to sell my featherweight and asked a local Canadian sewing machine technician about selling it here in Ontario. He suggested taking it with us and trying to sell it in Florida this past winter. I sold it on Craigslist for $350. U.S. (worth more than equal amount of Canadian money) and the lady didn't quibble at all. I would NOT have gotten that amount here in Ontario, IF I sold it. Craigs List certainly worked for me!

There's also long arm classifieds on www.longarmuniversity.com. There's a small charge for the ad but a lot of people sell machines on there. Another long arm site houseofhansen.com does ads too.
I've sold several sewing machines on cl. It's a free ad, so can't hurt. Do be aware of the scam artists who try to buy it sight unseen through an agent.

Thanks for his posting this morning, folks. I am getting ready to sell a sewing/embroidery machine, and this is a big help in determining what route I'll be taking.

I have never had a problem other than the callers always want to buy for much less than you are asking Hold your ground on price, and PLEASE, be sure to have someone with you at all times

Unless the cashier's check is drawn on a local bank, and you are able to meet at that bank (not yours) to cash it, don't do it. There's lots of fake cashier check/money order scams, too.

I just sold DH's Singer treadle to someone from CL - they drove over an hour to get here, bought 2 small portables at the same time, paid cash, very nice people.

Most things I try to have outside when the people come to pick them up.
