I will be interested in the answers -- I haven't found anything that really works well. I tried the disappearing pens and they disappear too fast here near the water. And Olympia WA is too damp also. I don't wash my quilts after I finish hand quilting. -- so the washables don't work either.

I use whatever works best. So far most of the time it is blue marker, pencil or chalk.

The blue water erasable pens and white Clover fine marking pen that is also water soluble. Just recently purchased a couple of the Frixion pens also.
Had a problem with yellow chalk marker dying my white thread when I used it, so no more chalk for this girl. |
I use the fine lead mechanical pencil on light fabrics...on darker fabrics I use my old chalk wheel...the one with the tiny serrated teeth. I have them in blue, yellow, pink and white. I've had them for over 20 years (they were very cheap way back when) and for once I had the foresight to buy extra powder refills.

I've just discovered the Frixion pens and they are wonderful. You can find them at Staples 3/5.99!

I use a lead pencil. Works for me and inexpensive.

Soap slivers on dark and frixion pens on light.

Markers that disappear with water. I try to mark as little as possible, working on more free motion motifs when possible.

I use a No.2 mechanical pencil. It has always washed out for me.

A good ole Ticonderoga #2 pencil. I just bought a blue marking pencil. It works well. On all but the darks.
|
I love the Fons & Porter markers, I just don't like the dark gray one. It does not wash out

All the references to the brand name markers and such interest me. I have another brand name, Crayola Washable Markers. You can get them in a fine point. I had marks on a quilt top that I didn't finish until about 8 months later. I was concerned that they might not wash out, blue on white fabric. Washed the quilt when done and came out without a problem.
