I use a No.2 mechanical pencil. It has always washed out for me.

A good ole Ticonderoga #2 pencil. I just bought a blue marking pencil. It works well. On all but the darks.

I love the Fons & Porter markers, I just don't like the dark gray one. It does not wash out

All the references to the brand name markers and such interest me. I have another brand name, Crayola Washable Markers. You can get them in a fine point. I had marks on a quilt top that I didn't finish until about 8 months later. I was concerned that they might not wash out, blue on white fabric. Washed the quilt when done and came out without a problem.
