Are u using quilt to cover with? or u cover the bed only and remove it when u sleep:wink:
4 me i will use one the whole life and others will be 4 showing :-( This is not fair  |
I either use most of my quilts to keep warm, or give them away for the same purpose. Personally I wouldn't make a quilt for "show" only during the day and not use it at night!
|
I use my quilts and when I give them to people, I tell them if they don't use them I take them back and give them to someone who will use them.
|
I use mine and so does everyone I have given one to.
I use one on the couch and another one stays on my bed all the time. My cat like them too. |
Of all the quilts I have made I don't have one for myself :? But i did buy some flannel to make myself a rag quilt  And if I ever get it made i will use it

I gave most of my quilts away to children, grand-children and I donated some to good causes. I choose one I liked and so did my DH, and we have them on our bed to keep us warm. LOL Liz
|
My quilts are for using. So are my afghans. I'm not a display type person.
|
Use them :D:D:D What a great way to start your day, waking up underneath a beautiful quilt that you created, how could that not put a smile on your face???
|
I use what I do not give away or sell. Nothing like a quilt on a cold New England night.
|
I tell quilt receiver to use the quilt. If they put it on a shelf, it will self-destruct in 5 years.
|
I use the one on my bed...the rest I have given away..and I do tell everyone I expect them to use them, it really hurts my feelings to see all my hard work sit on a shelf
|
I use them when I can but it's kind of hot here in Florida.
I hope the ones I make and give away are used and loved. I know two of my grandkids used theirs so hard they need another one! They were two of my first and were tied. Not sturdy enough for them so now they will get a quilted quilt! |
The quilts here are for using...or I give them away, and I also tell everone they have to use them or otherwise return the quilt.
In Jan 2010 I will start my Dear jane. I'm not for sure if she will become a using quilt or a show quilt. |
I use mine on the bed & on the chairs & couches.
Others I give away or donate! Flannels are my favorite!! It's cold up here!! |

My quilts are always used in one fashion or another. If it isn't for the bed then it is for the walls. The house I'm in was built in the early 1950s and the quilts on the walls really help to keep the house warm.
As for a quilt for my bed, I haven't gotten that far yet. I tend to give 99.9% of everything I make away. I can't seem to help myself. Hubby says everyone else is already taken care of so now it's our turn. Lol. I have a quilt I'm making for our bed but it will be set aside when we climb in at night. Why? Because hubby tends to kick the quilt off the bed and then my dog curls up and sleeps on it. Ack! Dog sheds something horrible & I'd rather it wasn't on my quilt. I brush him every day but he has gorgeous, long hair and it is very pervasive. I may just have to make him his own quilt to sleep on. Hmm, hadn't considered that before. |
My Rottie had one. He is laying on it in my avatar.

I generally give them away but just before (Canadian) Thanksgiving I decided nuts to that and made myself one that I love. I've tried to attach a photo of it in-progress.
|
I have 2 quilts I change out. I use both of them like bedspreads.
|
My quilts are all used. Last night there were 3 on my bed (3 over me and 2 over DH) I can't believe that at 5 this morning he was up and asking if there was another quilt in the bedroom. I sent him over to one of the other rooms. One of them is the regular "bed spread"
The ones downstairs all get used when there are people around. I have been under one or two of them many many hours since I had my surgery last month. |
all my quilts get used. we have 2 on our bed now, and 2 in the den. And those I have given away to family members also get used!
|
My family uses all the quilts I have made for them and I always let everyone who gets one as as gift that I want it used. I tell them use it, love it, and if need be wear it out. That way I get to make them another one.
|
I have a quilt on my bed at all times. In the summer we usually fold it up and set it aside when we get in bed because it is to warm. In the winter we certainly sleep under one. I have quilts everywhere in my house. Even my cat has his own quilt. The majority of my quilts have been laundered at least once. Some multiple times. The only rooms in my house without at least a wall quilt are the bathrooms.
|
I have many that I use to cover up with. I love my quilts.
|
Thank u every one for your replies it changes my mind I'll make my heart stronger and use mine
The problem is i cant clean them in my machine (small) and quilts i make are king size bec i love big, full, down as much i can and then i hate dry clean   :x :x :x |
I use a couple of mine but have one that I don't want to put on the bed because I have a cat that throws up! The ones I have given as gifts , i think, are being used. There is a baby quilt that I know of that has not been used because it had cat hairs on it. I am considering asking for it back to rewash and give to quilts for kids.

4 me i will use one the whole life and others will be 4 showing :-( This is not fair  Most of my quilts are done to give away and to be used. I just looked out and it is snowing pretty hard. I cleaned 5 inches or so off the driveway earlier. Looks like I'll need to do it again! (Manhattan, KS) |
I make quilts to be used, I have four for my own bed that I alterante thru the year. My kids and grands also have quilts. In fact no one has a blanket on their beds. Its all quilts. My grandson wore out the first one, I have mended it twice and refuse to do it again. LOL So I made him a new one but he will not give the other one up. So they all like them. I have given many away as gifts and for charity. I just enjoy making them and will continue to do so as long as there is someone who wants one. Marge

Yes, I sleep under my quilts. There are few that do not get used regularly - and then only during the hot summer! |

I use all my quilts. I give many away and I always tell recipients that I make them sturdy enough for everyday wear.
|
Most of the bed size quilts I have made have gone to family...and they all use them. I have some smaller throw sized quilts that I use on the couch, or when guests come for extra on the futon. I have fabric and a pattern for a quilt for our bed in my quilt room, but it's been sitting there for months, untouched. Maybe after the 1st of the year......but that's what I've been saying for over a year!!! :P

DH and I both have dust mite allergies that require all bedding to be washed weekly. I wash our bed quilt every week in cold water and mild soap and once a month in warm. Our old quilt lasted 25 years before replacing. The one I made several years ago has lots of red and navy, so it might need replacing much sooner.
I've tried other kinds of blankets, but DH likes quilts. I guess I'm more selfish than some of you-- the first quilt I made was for me! |
In AZ I use the quilt I made for my folks for their 50th anniversary in 1988 - queen size. In CT, my 1st quilt is on the bed in my sewing room (under piles of 'stuff') - I made it for my daughter in 1972, one is on the guest room bed
- queen. Others are on walls, a rocking chair in a bedroom, in the TV room and draped on a love seat in living room. All the rest have been given to my son and daughter and many friends as wedding and baby gifts. The lap size ones have been washed in home machines. The full sized one (my DD's - the first one I made) has a white background, and it has been washed in my home machine many times with no problem - dried too. The queens have not been washed. Oh dear, what an awful admission! |
Sort of off subject but: punkins mom, that puppy is just so huggable! I bet he loves your quilts as much as you.
|
Gayle, hope you are fully re-covered (heh! Heh! little joke) soon. A nice warm quilt is so comforting.
|
we have too many in my house, and my kids have too many also, but we use them, and wash them lots. i tell the kids, if you wear them, out, i'll make you another. i'm going to start giving some to charity. and i make harder ones all the times. am going to start making wall hangings to decrease closet storage needs.
