    Default Bernina 830

Hello everyone!! I posted this question in a blog (duh, it would be nice if I were a BIT technological!!) What I'd love to ask is this: Any of you who are familiar with the new Bernina 830; Do you have any pointers or tips about this machine that could help to learn it use more quickly? I tentatively agreed to buy this machine, and I'm both nervous and excited about owning this piece of technology. :-)) Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

My dealer had classes using the 830 Emulator but no free hands on classes like they do for their other machines. They do have some classes that are project based that you pay for. If you go to Bernina's website berninausa.com there is a separate section for these machines. They also have webinars on their website from time to time strictly for the 830. Talk to the dealer you are purchasing the machine from and find out exactly what type of training they offer and what type of support is available. Love my machine even though I do not get to use it as much as I would like to.

I have an 830 and it took me a good year to learn the mastery of quilting with specialty threads!! It broke threads so often I was ready to return it!!!!! Take all the classes they offer with it and I use a topstitch needle 90/14 to quilt and piece. Make sure you quality quilting and specialty threads as this machine is picky. I use Superior threads most often, also Sulky. Be patient with yourself and if you have a problem, call the place you bought it and ask for help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had the 830 for a year and a half. Your dealer should offer Mastery classes. Take them.

Check with your local Bernina store. My local store has guide classes for their new machine owners - and they are free. I've taken the guide class for my Bernina 440QE twice.

If I were you, I'd join the Yahoo group bernina_series8. LOTS of great info from Bernina 830 owners.

You will love your machine! I've had mine for several years and am still learning all it can do. These machines do NOT like to multitask. When you are threading it make sure it is done bumping and grinding before you go to the next step. Don't thread and change the bobbin at the same time. Most issues come from trying to move too quickly -- remember this is a computer based machine.

I took the sewing classes that were offered when I bought my Bernina but that was years before there was a You-Tube. There is NOTHING better than a one on one learning experience. Even the dealer should be able to show you the basics.
