    Default A Productive Day!

I just wanted to get on here and share how good it felt to be productive today (and yesterday, too). I stay at home with my 4 year old and babysit two other toddlers two days a week. I don’t get nearly as much time quilting as I would like. It felt amazing to do the prep work that I did today. My DH cut a 3’ x 4’ piece of plywood for me to use as a cutting surface on top of my ironing table. The table is just a plastic one that I covered with batting and a canvas top to use as a large ironing surface. I use bed risers to bring it to a comfortable working height. It works well enough for ironing but is terrible (read: not flat) for cutting. I covered it with a piece of flannel to avoid the rough edges. I got to ironing my ten yards of fabric for a planned quilt, followed by starting to cut strips. I couldn’t be happier with the new cutting surface. I had to stop that cutting project when DH wanted to watch a movie we rented. I switched to cutting and prepping hexies. I spent about three hours cutting, gluing and ironing. I was just as pleased as could be. I’m excited because having the hexies prepped gives me something to do on weekday evenings when my DH likes to sit after dinner and enjoy a movie. He wakes up at 5:00 am so we try to make our evenings early. I also don’t have any friends that are quilters close to me, so I love being a member of this board to share my joy!

Sounds like a good day, I'm not a fan of ironing so I'm always pleased when I get it done.

I was a solo quilter for years and then the internet came and being connected is better than being alone. It's that thing about a joy is doubled when is shared and a trouble halved.

You did have a good day! I am lucky to have local quilts friends and organizations. It made my move to Illinois so much easier. This board is i”icing on the cake”.

Nothing more satisfying that a partner who can help you achieve your goals, and then being able to work on what brings you happiness! Here’s to many more productive days, weeks and years!

Good for you! I love having handwork to do when I can't sew on my machine. Having a handy husband is great too!

I know the feeling also, I quilted by myself for a couple of years. I now quilt with a group once a week but that is not enough. I am also on this board several times a week. Aren't we lucky?

I believe we all share your excitement on getting so much done in a single day. All the prep that goes into making a quilt and with little people surrounding you a good deal of the time. Wow!
Now I don't have the little people surrounding me through out the day. Much of my day is spent in my studio putzing around. I have a quilt top on the floor that only has 3 more seams go to. I have fq's that I just cut getting ready to to Judy Niemeyer's Desert Sea in a couple of months. Just choosing the right fabrics from my stash of batiks is a fun challenge. I have been working on just the fabric selection bit by bit for weeks. All the little successes in a day are so important. Wow! again to a great and quilty day.
