Aurifil is only 2ply cotton so I would think it is not that strong for high speed quilting.
When piecing how it comes wavy off the spool really does cause problems for me. Seems crazy but it does. I proved it too many times to myself so now I know not to keep expecting it to be different.

Onebyone, I thought Aurifil was top grade quilting thread and of course I have about 15 spools of the stuff in various colors. Won't buy it again for sure. My thread from Connecting Threads may be on the cheap side but it works like a charm for me and I have lots of it in most all colors. Just wished they'd quit discontinuing a color only to bring it back under a different color name but same color number as I made a chart to keep track of all my spools and I've had to cross reference them from time to time.
At least I was able to get the quilt finished finally.

Aurifil got off on the right foot when first introduced in the states from Italy. They used great marketing. Many high profile quilters were approached and given the the chance to be spokesperson for it for free thread of course and lots of free exposure. I remember when it first was available. It soon became the thread to use because all the celebrity quilters were using it and promoting it. Back then it was all quilt shows and magazine ads. In that era if one of our quilt heros said it was the best, we followed their words. Now we know to take the endorsements as they are, just influence strategy.
It is a good piecing thread and I use it because I have a lot of it and want to use it up. I have to use a thread holder because it is too wavy coming off the spool.

I've been using the creme color spools for piecing also as I ordered way too many years ago but I guess now I'll be using the colored spools for piecing also or maybe I'll start using them for when I go to add the binding on as that would be one way to use them up but still slowly. Thanks for the tip that Aurifil is no longer the top dog thread to buy but yet it's still high priced.

Masterpiece use to be 2 ply and now it's 3 ply. It's nice cotton thread. I prefer poly for quilting though. My favorite quilting thread is Glide 40 wt. I use the magna Glide pre wound bobbins. We have so many choices for thread.
