I really would like to work on this while our DD is visiting grandparents this coming week. Any suggestions. Thanks!

Oh quilt top is approx 100" x 85".
What about using the heavier shirting flannel that is the weight of a good man's shirt?

I've used some really nice (wide backs-90"- 108" wide) flannels from Fabric.com too. i don't shop at Joannes so can not compare or comment on what they have these days- i became upset with their low quality/high prices a long time ago. when i don't want to piece my backing i use the wide ones- when i don't mind piecing-really have it in my head i have to use a particular one i use the benartex flannels. i also love to use flannels for quilt backings
I've used & been quite happy with Woolies. Flannel is so tricky... some is so flimsy & other is really nice. CT's is supposed to be nice, too. And a good price.

I once bought really really cheap ($1/yard) fabric from a fabric store by my job. It felt kind of flimsy at first. After I washed it, it became really nice. This was the only time I pre-washed my flannel. With the quality flannels, I don't pre-wash and haven't ever had a problem (yet!)

Thanks everyone! If my LQS does not carry any, one store here has a big selection of fabric so I hope she has some in stock, if not I will order from Fabric.com as I found some extra wide flannel I like.

The flannel from Joannes is super thin. My sister made my sons quilts and the first time we washed them, the flannel backing fell to pieces. There are so many places in them that need repairs now, it just made me cry, the quilts are beautiful and she put so much work into them. She made my daughter one also and the same thing happened but on a smaller scale. If that is all you can afford, then quilt them heavily!!! If you can afford a nice thicker one, go that way!!!
